Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 421: Chapter 421: This Doesn’t Count as War

”War?” Zhang Yiming’s lips curled slightly, and he gently shook his head, ”This isn’t considered war.”

War involves both sides being equally matched, or having a large number of participants.

The handful of people coming tomorrow is not enough to be called a war.

He was here, using brainwaves to slowly steal the memories of nearby zombies, easily keeping track of Captain Zhu’s movements.

The number of people in the car was around a hundred, not enough to be his opponent.

So, he didn’t even call the Suit Man Zombie, just had Xiao Song Zombie rush over from Zombie Village.

He’s enough on his own; he waits here alone, waiting for them to come.

He didn’t plan on going on a killing spree because she was here; he couldn’t kill too many humans.

Otherwise, none of them would be able to leave.

Old Tao was taken aback for a moment, his murky eyes dimmed slightly.

As expected, he was too old, couldn’t keep up with the times, and his judgment wasn’t sharp anymore?

He only relied on information from the radio to judge that many people would come tomorrow, a superpower to steal zombies’ memories using brainwaves, which he could also do.

There were distance limitations.

The young man in front of him seemed to have no such troubles, able to grasp information from miles away.

Old Tao shook his head, hunched forward to the freshly dug pit, stretched out his hand to tidy the villagers’ zombies’ disordered clothes as they filled the pit, then helped to fill the pit together.

His deeply grooved fingers slowly scraped the soil, while his gaze remained on Zhang Yiming.

Zhang Yiming gave him a very terrifying and sacred feeling, as if a single look was blasphemy and would lead to destruction.

Fortunately, he’d lived long enough, experienced many storms, barely able to look up and face him.

Taking advantage of his age.

”I am Old Tao from Taovillage. May I ask, young man, who are you...?”

A faint light flashed in Old Tao’s eyes as he asked.

Peaceful coexistence between humans and zombies could not be achieved by him alone.

His ability could only protect the entire Taovillage’s safety.

He had a sense that if the young man in front was willing, he might be able to turn this world into a relatively peaceful one.

”Zhang, Zhang Yiming.” Zhang Yiming replied.

Old Tao’s eyes moved slightly, suddenly recalling.

Zhang Yiming was precisely the Zombie King that Fire Phoenix Safety Base had been publicizing heavily.

Old Tao’s impression of Zhang Yiming instantly improved.

Fire Phoenix Safety Base had so vigorously promoted Zhang Yiming’s name, even exposed his photos, and vilified his actions, sullying his image.

It’s nothing less than a slap in Zhang Yiming’s face.

Zhang Yiming’s brainwaves were terrifying, yet the Fire Phoenix Safety Base remained unharmed, enough to prove Zhang Yiming was a ”good” zombie.

At the very least, he was not inclined toward violence.

This was what surprised Old Tao the most.

Such a Zombie King must be one able to completely restrain his violent emotions.

”I am Old Tao of Taovillage.”

Hunched over, Old Tao took two steps towards Zhang Yiming, trying to ignore the young man’s brainwaves, extending his hand for a handshake.

No matter how much he restrained his fear, his fingers still involuntarily trembled.

The brainwaves were truly too terrifying.

The more terrifying they were, the happier Old Tao was.

Older people were increasingly unwilling to witness bloody incidents.

If indeed there was ever a day when a super-powerful Zombie Emperor emerged, controlling all zombies, maintaining literal peace, it’d be very desirable.

Zhang Yiming expressionlessly stretched out his hand, politely shook, then quickly withdrew it.

Despite appearing gentle overall, he disliked interacting with others; he was only gentle in appearance, while his character remained cold.

Only in front of Bai Xiqin his heart became softened, able to genuinely let down all his defenses.

Hunched, Old Tao sat on the ground, regardless of whether Zhang Yiming wanted to listen, talking about things in the village.

”When the apocalypse broke out, most people in the village didn’t react in time, many didn’t even get a chance to escape before turning into zombies. I, too, was bitten and became like this in a daze.”

Old Tao, with his aged eyes on the moon, noticed Zhang Yiming didn’t react, feeling hopeful, continued speaking.

”After discovering I could control zombies, I gathered the village’s zombies in one place. Initially, villagers were afraid of us; no one dared to come to us.”

”I wasn’t in a hurry, just led the zombies to plant trees in the village, drove other zombies away, and rescued villagers troubled by mutant animals.”

”Gradually, zombie villagers’ families began coming to me looking for their children, fathers, and parents.”

”Until now, zombies and humans in our village coexist peacefully.”

At this point, Old Tao paused, saying meaningfully, ”I am old, my superpower progresses too slowly, and I don’t have strong brainwaves. If a true Emperor arises among zombies, perhaps under his leadership, the world will move towards peace.”

”Peace?” Zhang Yiming chuckled softly, ”Humans need zombies’ crystal cores to enhance superpowers, zombies need to devour flesh to evolve; as long as one exists, peace will never be achieved.”

”It can be, Taovillage has realized peace.” Old Tao’s voice, though aged, carried a hint of determination.

”Ha!” Zhang Yiming pointed to the zombies filling the pit, ”Aren’t they already suppressed to the extreme? Can you still control them when their levels rise higher? Can you ensure they won’t eat people under your nose, ensure they won’t go out and bite people?”

Restraint is the greatest test for zombies.

He was tormented daily by the violent bloodthirsty factors in his brain, living in constant fear.

He feared losing control, becoming a true monster.

He refused to devour flesh, didn’t want to consume human flesh, only wished to live purely as a human.

By then, he could resolutely tell a certain someone, I’m back.

Even his restraint is challenging, expecting all zombies worldwide to do so?

That’s wishful thinking!

”In your village, those villagers with superpowers also need crystal cores, right? Never thought to carve out zombies’ crystal cores for absorption?”

Every word Zhang Yiming said hit Old Tao’s heart.

Zombies hunting mutant animals could obtain flesh and crystal cores.

Mutant animals aren’t easy to hunt, and sometimes there are no gains.

Superpower users in the village also go out to hunt zombies, carve out crystal cores to absorb.

Perhaps they even thought of brutally carving out the village zombies’ crystal cores, but with him around, no one dared to speak up.

Peace is just what the eyes see.

When the zombie villagers can no longer hunt mutant animals.

When villagers no longer prepare live animals for zombies to devour.

When Old Tao or the zombie he trains are not in the village, peace will burst like a bubble and vanish in an instant.

Even managing a single village proves challenging, let alone the world’s billions of zombies?

Was he too wishful?

Old Tao’s body seemed even more hunched, he sat silently on the ground, quietly watching the ferocious-looking villagers.

He had been born and raised in Taovillage, unwilling to abandon either the zombie villagers or normal villagers.

They were all kids he watched grow up!

Old Tao sighed deeply, yet still couldn’t make a choice.

Forget it, as long as he’s here, Taovillage must be peaceful.
