Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 793: Chapter 623: The Knot in the Heart Must Be Untied!

The reputation of the Southern Border’s perilous mountains and treacherous waters is not unfounded!

Among them, Great Swamp Mountain is the most formidable!

Towering peaks rise into the clouds, precipitous and awe-inspiring.

Standing on the waist of the back mountain of Witch Gu Peak, Gu Changsheng, holding the little bundle of flesh in his arms, couldn’t help but sigh deeply as he looked back.

”Such a tall mountain peak, boldly hollowed out, this Xiangka Tianji, truly is a divine being!”

Gu Changsheng, who had deeply experienced how backward ancient technology was, felt profound admiration from the bottom of his heart for Xiangka Tianji’s mountain-carving feat!

Witch Gu Peak was located on the outer rim of the three main peaks of Great Swamp Mountain. Standing halfway up Witch Gu Peak, one could see the two peaks behind it very clearly.

”That one, that’s Phoenix Flying Peak, your mother’s former home,” Gu Taitian said softly, pointing at Phoenix Flying Peak, which stood especially tall in the center of the three peaks.

Upon hearing this, Gu Changsheng nodded but did not respond.

Gu Taitian’s eyes dimmed.

”Mommy?” The little bundle asked with round, doting eyes, glancing at his mother, then at his Old Handsome Grandpa, his chubby little face full of confusion.

Why is Mommy ignoring Grandpa? That’s very impolite!

”Changsheng...” Gu Taitian sighed softly and called out.

”Hmm?” Gu Changsheng turned, her expression unreadable.

”I’m sorry, it was father’s selfishness, it was our selfishness!” Gu Taitian said, his eyes full of the vicissitudes of life lowering slightly as he finally spoke out, ”Jiji’s obstinate nature was one thing; Ruoshui and I, knowing all the events that would unfold today, yet allowing things to take their own course was another. The Heavenly Dao and reincarnation are beyond mortal control, I had thought about stopping all of this, but your mother’s and my Ghost souls had been ground through the cracks of time and space for a thousand years just to find these two bodies. Their Life Patterns are just so; if Jiji’s obsessions hadn’t arisen, and if the Phoenix Clan hadn’t been destroyed, your mother’s Life Pattern would have been vastly altered. If that were the case, the reconstruction of your body for you would have been futile talk!”

Upon hearing this, Gu Changsheng’s expression suddenly darkened.

”Amitabha, Benefactor Changsheng need not take it so much to heart,” Little Monk Bu Jie, standing beside Gu Changsheng, sang a Buddhist chant with his hands clasped and spoke warmly, ”Benefactor Gu is right. The calamity of the Southern Border Royal Family didn’t happen overnight. Your mother’s life pattern was meant to be this way; the rebellion in the Southern Border, living as a refugee in a foreign land, and only then, at death’s door, giving birth to a daughter—all of this has a predestined arrangement by the heavens!”

”Destiny? Destiny again!” Gu Changsheng, upon hearing this, clenched her eyes shut fiercely, and when she opened them again, her wide Phoenix Eyes were filled with reluctance, ”If everything is predetermined by fate, then what am I, someone who does not fit into the calculations of destiny?”

”Daddy, for my rebirth, you spared no effort. For just my sake, it would have been forgivable if you two defied destiny, but you watched as Xiangka Tianji fell into madness due to love, watched as the Phoenix Clan of the Southern Border all faced slaughter—and all this, while you might say was destiny, could you really remain indifferent and unfazed?” Gu Changsheng turned back, looking at the deeply scarred Gu Changsheng, her eyes moist for once, ”My life is a life, but what about theirs? Daddy, with the power to divine and measure the earth, if not for the obsession to resurrect me, would you have turned a deaf ear to the Phoenix Clan’s past tragedy? If not for reconceiving a body for me, would you truly spectate indifferently as Xiangka Tianji walked step by step to where she is now?”

”Changsheng...” Gu Taitian, hearing this, raised his hand in a fluster but ultimately didn’t have the courage to touch his daughter in front of him.

”In the end, all of this started because of me! Xiangka Tianji’s only mistake was loving the wrong person; for a woman, loving the wrong person isn’t a fault, and falling into madness because of love is understandable. Daddy, you and my mother’s unwavering love should attest to the strength of true affection. Xiangka Tianji may have been too obstinate, which led to the calamity of the rebellion in the Southern Border, but you knew it all along—knew all that would happen—yet you just watched it unfold, ignoring it completely!” Gu Changsheng hugged the little bundle tighter, as if only in this way could she draw some warmth from her son. She looked at Gu Taitian and slowly shook her head, ”Why should I kill her? How could I face killing her? Daddy, it’s not that I’m soft-hearted; I simply have no standing or right to do so!”

”Looking at it from our perspective, Xiangka Tianji’s plot to overthrow the dynasty, her crimes merit death, and she has only herself to blame. But what about from her perspective? You clearly knew she was the love tribulation of your life yet still took her as your disciple. You knew she would fall in love with you and would keep making mistakes until she couldn’t be redeemed, yet you and Mother decided to follow that damned destiny and just watched on indifferently! But from Xiangka Tianji’s perspective, she’s innocent. She simply loved the wrong person, someone she was destined to fall in love with, and you both became her downfall!”

”For my resurrection, you even extinguished your own compassion. Daddy, don’t tell me destiny is inescapable. I know if you wished to stop it, none of this would have happened: Xiangka Tianji wouldn’t have fallen into madness because of love, and there wouldn’t have been a rebellion in the Southern Border over twenty years ago. In the end, the only difference would be that this body of mine wouldn’t have been born...”

Saying this, Gu Changsheng turned and continued to walk down the mountain with the little bundle, her silhouette slightly lonely.

”As a daughter, as the daughter you devoted everything to protect, I have no right to question what you’ve done for me. However, since all of this started because of me, then it should also end with me! Whether it’s Xiangka Tianji or the Southern Border, I will do my best to return them to the beginning, back to when you knew destiny couldn’t be defied and watched these events unfold with detached eyes!”

”All that arose because of me, and the kindness that was extinguished because of me, I will do my best to help you retrieve it; to atone for myself and to bring you peace of mind. So, Daddy, you don’t need to feel guilty about Xiangka Tianji anymore, I won’t lay a hand on her!”

Not knowing everything, you won’t think too much.

Knowing everything, Gu Changsheng could no longer remain detached!

For her to die and be reborn, her parents didn’t hesitate to defy the heavens and change their fate. Knowing what her life pattern would be, they still watched as all these horrors unfolded. Gu Changsheng empathized deeply with the torment their consciences must have undergone!

She had no right to blame anyone; as the original instigator of the calamity, she didn’t even have the right to sympathize with others.

Then, let her bring an end to it all!

Strive to restore everything to the original state her parents had hoped for!

Gu Taitian watched the red figure wind down the mountain path, and deep within his aged eyes lay guilt and also relief...

The guilt came from realizing that the consequences of their actions were to be borne by their daughter, whom they had tried their best to protect.

The relief was knowing that their daughter, though untamed in spirit, possessed a heart that was not only extremely clear but also exceptionally kind.

”Father, you truly raised Changsheng well...” Gu Taitian looked up towards the endless sky and murmured softly, ”Thank you.”

Indeed, as Gu Changsheng had said, he was neither a good son nor a good father for being ungrateful and for not providing care.

Yet, his daughter had been raised very well by his old father.

Thus, everything they had done had ultimately come to a satisfactory completion!

”Changsheng’s life pattern changed the moment her alien soul took charge. Senior Monk, if it is she who changes all this, will it hinder her?” Gu Taitian looked down at the little figure beside him.

He had always held utmost respect for Little Monk Bu Jie.

Not for any other reason, but because those who profoundly understand the deep meanings within Qimen Mysticism deserved respect, not to mention that Little Monk Bu Jie was also a Human God of this world!

How could such a status not warrant his differential treatment?

And for him, what mattered most at any time was his daughter!

”Amitabha, Benefactor Gu, you worry too much! Benefactor Changsheng’s life pattern has indeed changed, but now, as the Female Star of the Occupation Room is in command of her destiny, born in response to the Heavenly Dao, she should comply with the will of Heaven. Everything has its own preordained fate in the mysteries of the universe,” said Little Monk Bu Jie with a world-embracing serenity on his young face. He then took small steps down the mountain, ”The ways of the Heavenly Dao are vast; fate is also subject to change. We should simply observe and fulfil our human roles while heeding the Heavenly Dao; one mustn’t force anything...”

”Fulfil our human roles while heeding the Heavenly Dao, indeed, I have been foolish!” Gu Taitian sighed, a faint smile playing on his lips, a sense of relief washing over him, as he stepped forward to catch up with his daughter.

Granny Wu Shan, of course, closely followed, never more than half a step behind.

Having said all that, Gu Changsheng finally felt a great deal of relief.

However, the people behind her didn’t catch up!

That made Gu Changsheng frustrated!

Could it be that her recent words had hurt her father, thus he no longer wanted her?

Gu Changsheng slowed her pace, pondering whether to go back and coax her father!

Being attractive to the Peach Blossom fate wasn’t really her father’s fault, and his detached observation of the future was for her sake; her father was actually quite aggrieved!

Considering that all of this was because of her, and yet her parents were the ones feeling the pang of conscience, it seemed rather unkind of her!

That settles it! A face is like a rotten cabbage—throw it away, and it still grows. She should go back and make amends!

Wiping her face, Gu Changsheng had made up her mind.

”Changsheng, Three Palaces Peak is a revered place in the Southern Border, and even I am unaware of its depths. We should still proceed with caution on our journey,” he said.

Just as Gu Changsheng turned her head, she heard her father’s voice distinctively in her ears.

Looking back, she saw the little monk leading with his gleaming bald head, and her divine-looking father in black trailing right behind, a soft, gentle smile on his face that felt like a Spring Breeze.

”Hehe... Dad, don’t worry, aren’t all the elders in the Three Palaces? On my way here, quite by accident, I did kill one of those elders!” Wasn’t Miaosu Posuo, the master of the Futu Demoness, one of the Elders of the Three Palaces? And she had been taken down by her?
