Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 780: Chapter 612: Changsheng, I’m Your Dad!

The moonlight was faint, and the shadows of the trees were mottled below.

A tall figure slowly emerged from the darkness!

His pace was very slow, as if each step exhausted all of his strength, yet each step was taken with unwavering determination!

A hunched and skinny figure followed not far behind him, hands stretched out and carefully treading, as if afraid that he would suddenly fall!

Gu Changsheng gazed at that slender figure approaching from afar and slowly shook his head, holding the small bundle of a child, inching to the side!

There was Little Monk Bu Jie!

The confusion and unease in her heart instinctively drew her closer to Little Monk Bu Jie’s side.

It seemed as though only then could she find a semblance of security!

She had never believed in the nonsense that familiar ties make one more fearful, but at that moment, she was afraid!

Truly and utterly afraid!

“Shasha shasha.”

The dark robe dragged across the dry leaves, stirring up a rustling sound.

Gu Changsheng hid behind the small bundle and Little Monk Bu Jie, shaking her head with eyes brimming with tears, muttering in a daze, “Don’t come over! Don’t come over! I don’t want to see you, we don’t want to reunite! Don’t!”

The dark, tall figure walked past the dozen or so Gu women who had fainted to the side, stepping over the crumpled paper portrait on the ground…

Finally, he stood still one step in front of the three people that were Gu Changsheng.

Wuchang Taitian watched silently at the vivid woman hiding behind two small children, his gaze seemed enlightened, as if across lifetimes…

Quiet!

The surroundings were very quiet!

The small bundle wrapped his chubby fingers, and his round eyes shifted back and forth between his mother behind him and the Old Handsome Guy in front, pursing his small mouth, a picture of confusion.

Little Monk Bu Jie, as gentle and compassionate as ever, lowered his head, his lips moved, but no chanting was heard.

Granny Wu Shan stood silent behind the tall figure, saying nothing.

Only the two of them, eyes locked, tears shimmering in their gaze.

The murmurings from Gu Changsheng’s mouth unknowingly ceased, and she just stared blankly at the middle-aged man before her, with familiar brows and eyes so pale yet unable to conceal the elegance of the past…

And in those brows and eyes, the vicissitudes of life as if across ages…

Seas had transformed into mulberry fields, forests into tall buildings. It was as if she saw a person, slowly stepping out from a black and white photo in the hands of an old man…

Wuchang Taitian kept watching her, just watching her…

After a long time, he finally slowly extended his hands, his voice deep and filled with vicissitudes, resonating next to Gu Changsheng’s ear, carrying endless longing and tenderness…

“Changsheng, I am your father…”

Changsheng, I am your father!

Not ‘father,’ not ‘dad,’ but ‘dad’!

Just this one sentence, and Gu Changsheng’s heart, which he thought was strong, instantly cracked into pieces with the force of a withering tree being snapped. Those fragments turned into teardrops in her eyes, streaming down…

“Changsheng, I am your father…” Wuchang Taitian hesitated for a moment before speaking again, his voice filled with age and helplessness, laden with ancient affection…

He tentatively took a small step forward.

Moving a little closer to what he treasured.

“No! No! Don’t come any closer!” Gu Changsheng’s eyes brimmed with tears as she slowly shook her head, her tear-filled eyes gazing at him, “You’re not my father, my father died a long time ago! He died in an archaeological ruin, along with my mother! He died soon after I was born! Dead! Dead!”

Hearing this, Wuchang Taitian let out a soft sigh filled with vicissitudes, a helpless look spread across his pale, delicate face.

“Changsheng, I really am your father, in past and present lives, we’ve always been there, awaiting your birth, waiting for your reincarnation, Ruoshui and I, we’ve always been there, protecting you, our daughter…”

Hearing these words, Gu Changsheng shook her head even more fiercely, “No! It’s not true! It’s not like that! Gu Taitian, do you even realize what you are doing? Leave! Go away!”

Slapping the ground with both hands, Gu Changsheng nearly roared through her tears, “Do you know what you’re doing? Why did you come to see me? Why? Shang Xie said, Shang Xie said… The moment you and I reunite, that will be the time when the calamity against heaven descends! Are you stupid? Are you all stupid? After so much effort, allowing me, whose fate is to die young, to be reborn in this world, and then to come before me, just so I can watch you die again? So I can lose you once more?”

At this point, Gu Changsheng dully shook her head, “No! No! It’s not about losing again, it’s that I’ve never possessed anything! I have no father, no mother, I was raised by the old man with hardship and indulgence…”

Wuchang Taitian, no, rather, we should call him Gu Taitian.

Gu Taitian’s eyes filled with sorrow as he watched his daughter who was within arm’s reach, a single tear rolling down slowly, “Changsheng, I am sorry… It’s mom and dad’s fault…”

“Since you know it was wrong! Why did you still come to see me? Why? Why go to such lengths to let me, who is doomed to die young, be reincarnated? Is it all because of me? Is it?” Gu Changsheng struggled to stand up, her face turning pale, tears unceasing, “Because I’m short-lived, and you, well-versed in Qimen Mysticism, knew from my birth that I was destined to die young. You and her tried everything to bring me back to life. It was me! It was all because of me! Because of me, you died in that world so early, because of me, the old man had to endure the pain of losing a son, a daughter-in-law, the pain of an elder burying the younger… It’s all because of me, isn’t it?”

Across the little bun and Little Monk Bu Jie, Gu Changsheng’s teary eyes met with the man’s, her hands clenched tight, her brows struggling, “If that’s your purpose, then you’ve succeeded. I died, and now I live again, but you! Why did you come to see me? Why unveil such sins that arose because of me so starkly before my eyes? Why? Do you know, by seeing me, you will die! You will die!”

“I…” Gu Taitian, upon hearing this, opened his mouth to speak but then stopped, shut down by his own reticence.

“Amitabha! Because he cannot escape! Because he knows his life will soon end, and he must see you before his death! The calamity against fate derives from the Power of Balance between Heaven and Earth, and it won’t disappear with his death!” Little Monk Bu Jie slowly stood up, speaking softly, “Phoenix Ruoshui has died. When you two as a couple went against fate, and now that she’s no more, you’re all that is left. The calamity against fate will inevitably come, if he doesn’t bear it, once he dies, it will descend upon you whose fate was changed!”

Upon hearing this, Gu Changsheng’s figure trembled suddenly.

“For me! Again, for me! Everything is for me!”

At this moment, Gu Changsheng suddenly loathed himself, loathed himself immensely!

He detested his own existence!

“Changsheng! Listen to your father, your mother and I did this willingly!” Gu Taitian, seeing this, took a half step forward again, his outstretched hands never lowered, and yet he dared not touch, “Our daughter, you embody all the hopes your mother and I have for you in that world, but you were born with an incomplete Five Elements, destined not to live long. How could we bear it? How could we bear to watch our child fade away in the best years of her life?”

Gu Taitian approached, and Gu Changsheng retreated.

“Changsheng, our daughter, oh how parents the world over love their children, always planning for their long-term future. I am confident in my mastery of Qimen Mysterious Learning, observing heaven and earth, foreseeing past and future. How could I stand by and watch you, watch you die young in your prime?”

“I cannot bear it! Ruoshui couldn’t bear it! Your grandfather couldn’t bear it! From the moment of your birth, your parents traversed the length and breadth of Jiangnan, seeking out sages and hermits, just to ensure your longevity and safety! Eventually, heaven rewards those who strive, and we found it! We found it among the Miao Ethnic Group, in the most mystical ancient tombs in their remote mountains, we found the opportunity to save you from an early demise!”

“My daughter, your mother and I, at the cost of offending the Deities and altering destiny, and even becoming Ghosts in this world, did all this just to give you a new body! A body that could house your soul!”

At this point, Gu Taitian, with his tall figure, stumbled and fell to one knee, looking at the daughter who was close enough to help him up but dared not touch him, his voice full of age and tears, “Our daughter, we wandered the voids between countless timespaces for who knows how long, all for the sake of reconstructing a body for you! Finally, we found it! Our souls returned to our current bodies, we braved a thousand miles and boundless dangers to be together, all to birth you, to give birth to a body that originally wasn’t yours. Ruoshui died during your birth, her soul scattered, and I hung on just to wait for you, barely clinging to life until now. Our daughter, we’ve always been waiting for you, waiting for your previous life’s death, waiting for your rebirth in this life! Our Old Gu Family has been an only-child lineage for eight generations. We hold you as dear as our own lives, even through the desolation of crossing time and space, we would not let you die! Daughter, I am your father, in past lives and this one. We’ve schemed and calculated everything, just to wait for your rebirth, just for your peace and safety. My daughter, if you could venture into the perilous mountains and waters of the Southern Border for Yaoyao, then you should understand the depth of our parents’ love for you! We do love you, even if we cannot guard by your side, we still love you…”

Gu Taitian’s voice was faint, but the Gu Changsheng in front of him had long since broken into inconsolable sobs.

“No! No! You are too cruel! Too cruel! For me, you have made the old man bury his child, and for me, you have gone through life and death…”

“Changsheng, I, Gu Taitian, even though I’ve acted against fate, I dare say I have lived without shame towards heaven or earth, but I have only failed my old father! It is my disloyalty! My disloyalty!” Thinking of his lonely old father in another world, Gu Taitian’s voice was choked with sobs.

“And what about me? If you are disloyal, then what about me? Carrying the life and fate of my parents from two lifetimes, what face do I have to live? Gu Taitian, leave, in my past life I had no parents, in this life no mother and father!” Gu Changsheng knelt on the ground, crying in a hoarse voice, “Leave! Pretend you never met me! Never saw me! You and I, forever strangers, never to acknowledge each other!”
