Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 339: Chapter 214: Guarding Food is a Good Thing Chapter 339: Chapter 214: Guarding Food is a Good Thing The arrogant Little Meat Bun was unquestionably put through rigorous training by Zhou Mu. On the martial arts training ground, Yuan Bao had set up the Seventy-Two Plum Blossom Piles, and Little Meat Bun, Gu Ze, had been diligently practicing his qinggong lately. Consequently, Zhou Mu decisively tested him on this skill.

So, Little Meat Bun Gu Ze took a deep breath and leaped onto the Plum Blossom Piles, and then the tragedy began.

Every time he tried to land on a pile, a large foot blocked his landing spot.

Little Meat Bun Gu Ze’s plump body repeatedly fell from the Plum Blossom Piles, climbing up only to fall down again, and in this cyclic struggle, he held his bottom and felt profoundly saddened.

He deeply realized the importance of not offending Uncle Wood anymore…

“I don’t even need qinggong to stop you, Xiao Gu Ze, have you been lazy again?” Zhou Mu stood on the Plum Blossom Piles, looking down on Little Meat Bun, who was lying on the ground, with a faint smile curving his lips.

“Uncle Wood, your legs are longer than mine. I need to use qinggong to fly, while you just step over with your long legs. That’s not fair!” Xiao Gu Ze, covering his sore bottom, struggled to his feet and again jumped toward the Plum Blossom Piles, his voice filled with plaintive grievances.

“Didn’t your mother say that in this world, there’s no such thing as fairness? Xiao Gu Ze, if you can get past me and complete these Seventy-Two Plum Blossom Piles, I’ll forgive you this time for behaving like a petulant child!”

The two of them continued their dance on the Plum Blossom Piles–one flying up and the other blocking, chasing and dodging…

…

Meanwhile, Huo Shuixian, accompanied by her maid, returned to the Prince Mu’s Mansion. Once away from outsiders, her face darkened with malice, unmasked.

“Gu, Chang, Sheng!” She gritted her teeth as she pronounced the name of the woman she despised so intensely, then she grabbed a blue-and-white plum vase nearby and smashed it to the ground.

“Crack!”

A crisp shattering sound was heard, startling Ru Yu, who saw her master picking up another blue-and-white plum vase. Quickly stepping forward, Ru Yu tried to stop her.

“Miss, you shouldn’t smash anymore. Everything in the Prince Mu’s Mansion is accounted for; we are merely guests here. We cannot let His Highness Prince Mu find out, Miss, that you…”

Hearing this, the anger on Huo Shuixian’s face intensified, her beautiful face clouded with stormy expressions, “I am Huo Shuixian, the rightful lady of this Prince Mu’s Mansion. Who dares to control me?”

Though she said this, Huo Shuixian loosened her grip on the vase.

Seeing this, Ru Yu quickly took over and set it aside.

“Miss, what should we do now? I heard that His Highness Prince Mu has sent that vile woman lavish gifts and even excused the tribute from Liuzhou Region and Puzhou for three years. Her influence in His Highness’s heart must be no small matter…” Ru Yu asked quietly as she cleaned up the broken pieces from the ground.

Upon hearing this, a fierce gleam flashed in Huo Shuixian’s eyes, “Brother Mu must only be captivated by the novelty. He’s always in the military camp; how could he resist the temptations of that adulterous woman?”

Ru Yu nodded, softly consoling, “I think so too, miss. In terms of family background, appearance, character, and talent, you are far superior to that vile woman. His Highness Prince Mu has just been estranged due to not seeing you for many years. Miss, with some time spent together day and night, I don’t believe His Highness won’t be moved.”

“Gu Changsheng! You have tarnished my reputation; I will make sure you suffer a miserable death. Ru Yu, where has Nanny Xu reached now?” Huo Shuixian’s expression softened slightly upon hearing this.

“Reporting to Miss, Nanny Xu has already passed through Huainan City, it should take about ten more days to arrive.”

“Let that vile woman live another ten days then!” Huo Shuixian said as she handed a porcelain vial to Ru Yu, “You know what to do, right? I shouldn’t need to teach you.”

Ru Yu reached out to take the porcelain vial, her face showing a flicker of conflict, “Madam, she…”

“Her illness isn’t at the time to be cured yet. I have other plans for this matter, no need to ask further,” Huo Shuixian spoke while picking up a handkerchief to wipe her palms, “That vile woman, I will make her pay with blood!”

Seeing this, Ru Yu dared not say more, respectfully bowed, and prepared to leave.

“Wait, go find out more about that vile woman. Spare some silver to get a detailed account,” Huo Shuixian called out to Ru Yu as she was about to leave, adding further instructions.

“Yes.” Ru Yu responded, bowing deeply as she withdrew.

…

The Gu Residence was swarming with guests; even four hundred tables were not enough. Gu Changsheng, overwhelmed after dealing with wave after wave of guests, felt her head was splitting.

“My god, socializing is really not human work! It’s truly better to keep a low profile. Uncle Song, I’ll leave the rest to you. The capable should undertake more tasks; I really can’t stand it anymore,” Gu Changsheng massaged her stiff cheeks and waved at Uncle Song.

With the experience gained over this period, Uncle Song had become more spirited and confident. Seeing this, he quickly bowed, “Then, Madam, you go rest in the back yard; I’ll handle these people.”

Gu Changsheng was very satisfied with this response and immediately made her way to avoid the throng of guests, heading to hide in the backyard.

“This is even more tiring than fighting a war; my face is cramping from all the smiling!” Gu Changsheng, seeing Zhou Mu waiting for her by the lake from afar, couldn’t help but complain.

“Heh, who told you to be so famous?” Zhou Mu reached up to arrange a stray strand of her hair, a fleeting smile in his eyes.

“Where’s Little Meat Bun?” Gu Changsheng looked around, not seeing her son, and couldn’t help asking.

Zhou Mu nonchalantly pointed to the side yard, “He’s practicing on the Plum Blossom Piles at the martial arts training ground.”

“So self-motivated?” Gu Changsheng looked puzzled, “That’s not his style.”

“After falling off the Plum Blossom Piles thirty-six times, it seems his pride was hurt, so he started to put in extra effort,” Zhou Mu reported truthfully.

“Oh my god! It was you who did it, right?” Gu Changsheng painfully held his head, “In a moment, he’s going to catch me and complain again, why do you love to pick on that little guy so much? Do you feel accomplished by bullying him?”

Zhou Mu looked at her affectionately, “This Prince just can’t bear to bully you, that’s all.”

“So you bully my son?” Gu Changsheng glared.

“Where is there a mother who spoils her son as much as you do?” Zhou Mu shook his head disapprovingly.

“How am I spoiling him? I am clearly scared of his relentless whining and complaining tactics!” Gu Changsheng helplessly held her head again, her son’s watery big eyes made her heart melt, absolutely without principle!

It really was a case of one thing conquering another, Little Meat Bun was truly her nemesis.

Zhou Mu smiled helplessly, took her hands from her head, “Your hairdo is getting messy, can’t you be more careful?”

“My hairdo is not messy, but it’s not as delicate as that Shuixian flower in your family,” Gu Changsheng grumbled unhappily.

“She used to be quite a gentle and graceful little girl in her childhood, who would have thought she would become what she is now?” Zhou Mu’s face turned sour as he recalled what Huo Shuixian said to him about his Changsheng.

He really didn’t know why the little girl from his childhood had become so sharp-tongued and aggressive.

“Being protective is a good thing though!” Gu Changsheng couldn’t help but mutter again.

“Hmm?” Zhou Mu’s expression immediately darkened.

“Haha! The weather is so nice today, I need to find a place to take an afternoon nap, later I’ll go make longevity noodles and cake for Little Meat Bun,” Gu Changsheng quickly changed the subject with a laugh.

Seeing her like this, Zhou Mu affectionately shook his head, “There is a warm couch in the pavilion over there, you can rest there for a while, I’ll go check on Xiao Gu Ze.”

“Mmm,” Gu Changsheng nodded vigorously like pounding garlic, the pavilion was in the middle of the man-made lake, surrounded by sheer curtains, a beautiful and perfect place for an afternoon rest.

Zhou Mu led Gu Changsheng along the corridor over the lake towards the pavilion at its center, his lips slightly curved, his face wearing a smile.

Gu Changsheng lay on the extremely comfortable soft couch, watching Zhou Mu tenderly cover her with Brocade Quilts, and breathed in the incredibly fresh air, contentedly closing her eyes.

Seeing her close her eyes, Zhou Mu slowly left.

Hearing his departing footsteps, Gu Changsheng suddenly opened her eyes wide, confusedly slapped her head, “I feel like I’ve forgotten something, what was it?”

As Zhou Mu’s purple figure disappeared beyond the corridor, Gu Changsheng suddenly realized.

“Dammit, I actually forgot to chase this guy away! My bad, my bad! Miss Shuixian, wait a bit longer, after my nap I will definitely deliver him to you,” Gu Changsheng muttered to herself as she closed her eyes, “Handsome men are indeed a disaster, the moment I see him, I forget everything…”

In the front courtyard, guests crowded, Uncle Song moved around, conversing animatedly, and coping effortlessly, while Gu Changsheng hid in the Lake Heart Pavilion, deeply asleep.

She was extremely satisfied to be able to live such a comfortable and leisurely life.

Waking from her nap, Gu Changsheng kept her promise and went to the kitchen in the backyard, where Xiao Leizi had already prepared the eggs, flour, and more.

Gu Changsheng, who rarely cooked, prepared longevity noodles and a cake for her beloved son that evening.

Dong Lei’s eyes were wide with curiosity, unblinkingly watching every move of his mother, and occasionally asking questions whenever he didn’t understand.

Gu Changsheng was in a good mood, answering every question while busying herself in the spacious kitchen.

Suddenly, as the guests left, with Uncle Song present, Gu Changsheng happily shirked her duties, not even showing up to see the guests off, except for sending Xiao Cui and the sisters of good fortune back to Baili Mountain.

A table full of dishes was ready, and when the moon hung over the branches of the willows, the family gathered together for their first meal back at the residence.

Zhou Mu looked at the dishes on the table, his eyes towards Little Meat Bun filled with evident envy and jealousy.

“When your birthday comes, I’ll cook for you too, will that do? Look, you’ve scared him into biting his tongue twice,” Gu Changsheng glanced at her son who looked pitifully sullen and gave Zhou Mu a hard stare, “Hurry up and eat, eat quickly and then leave.”

Zhou Mu smiled contentedly at her first remark, but his face couldn’t help but darken at the latter half.

However, whether he liked it or not, Gu Changsheng was determined not to let him stay overnight at her place, and she finally managed to send him away.

“Oh my god, he’s finally gone!” Gu Changsheng quickly locked the door, and, walking along the cobblestone path, leisurely digested her meal while admiring her beautiful home.
