Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 328: Chapter 205: Attack of the Green Plums Chapter 328: Chapter 205: Attack of the Green Plums Yuan Bao had left, leaving behind the internally injured Gu Changsheng. However, her mansion was soon to be established, and she was still busy with matters at hand, so there wasn’t much time for her to lament.

Time, like sand slipping through one’s fingers, vanished in an instant.

That afternoon, in a common residence within Liuzhou City, a woman veiled in light gauze held a scroll by a window. Her hair, dark as clouds, fluttered behind her in the breeze, making her seem ethereal and serene.

A richly dressed woman in maid’s attire, visibly upset, lifted the curtain to enter. Upon seeing her mistress so, she quickly suppressed her anger and bowed. “Miss.”

The woman turned, and even a mere profile view was a scene of its own. Beneath her veil, her lips slightly parted, her voice clear and pleasant, “Ru Yu, you’re back. Why are you so huffy?”

Seeing her mistress inquire, the maid named Ru Yu could no longer hold back, her face anger-stricken as she spoke, “Miss, these people are really disrespectful and negligent! When I was washing clothes, I just used a bit more well water, and that attendant scolded me ruthlessly, dismissing me as if he were an old friend of the Old Grand Master, fallen into such a sorry state!”

Hearing her own maid complain incessantly, the miss smiled gently, visible from beneath her veil, “The master chose to reside here without much fuss. Ru Yu, what about the matter I asked you to inquire about? When is Brother Mu coming back to the city?”

“Miss, I’ve inquired about it. They say that at the latest by tomorrow, His Highness Prince Mu will definitely return to the mansion. Miss, let’s go stay at Prince Mu’s Mansion. I really can’t stand this dilapidated place anymore!” Ru Yu took a step forward, eager to leave.

The corners of the miss’ eyes crinkled with a deeper smile. He was coming back! She could see him again!

It had been ten years since they last met. She wondered if Brother Mu had missed her…

“What about the matter concerning that woman? Have you found anything out?” the miss asked, a trace of concern flitting across her eyes when she mentioned the woman connected to her Brother Mu.

Ru Yu’s expression became tense upon hearing this.

She knew very well how much the miss cared about His Highness Prince Mu. That was precisely why she dared not speak!

“Speak!” Seeing her maid like this, the miss readily sharpened her tone.

Ru Yu trembled at her words. Everyone said Huo Shuixian of the Huo Family was a beauty with an enchanting face and talents that shook the capital, admired as the Zhou Dynasty’s top talent and beauty. However, facing Huo Shuixian now, Ru Yu was slightly terrified and panicked.

“Miss,… that vile woman Gu Changsheng doesn’t even need inquiring about. We initially couldn’t find a place to stay in Liuzhou because of her. Gu’s family estate was inaugurated, attracting countless doctors and pharmacists to offer congratulations, thus filling up all the guesthouses and inns. Now, the whole city is buzzing about Gu Changsheng. Her reputation is very high. It doesn’t require my inquiry… Moreover… they say His Highness Prince Mu is currently residing with that immodest Gu Changsheng at the base of Baili Mountain. His return tomorrow is also to accompany her…”

“Vile woman!” Huo Shuixian’s fingers, painted with Red Nailpolish, dug into the pages of her book, her beautiful features contorted with fury.

Brother Mu was hers! The man she, Huo Shuixian, had set her heart on from a young age! She wouldn’t allow such a contemptible woman to touch him! She wouldn’t allow it!

It must have been that vile woman using vixen’s tricks to captivate her Brother Mu, making him disregard his stature to behave so indecorously.

“Miss, I also heard that the vile woman is claiming to be the County Princess Consort, shameless indeed…”

Hearing Ru Yu’s words, Huo Shuixian’s expression grew even darker. County Princess Consort? The only County Princess Consort should be her, Huo Shuixian!

Such a shameless, seductive woman, she couldn’t let Brother Mu stay by her side a moment longer!

“Come closer.” Huo Shuixian took out a small porcelain vial from her sleeve and gestured to Ru Yu.

Ru Yu leaned in and, hearing her miss’ whispered instructions, her face turned to disbelief and sheer horror.

“Miss,… Madam she…” She’s your mother!

Huo Shuixian looked at her with a sinister gaze, her voice ominously harsh, “Then go and do it!”

Ru Yu hesitated, but finally, with a hardened heart, she nodded, “At once, miss!”

…

Gu Changsheng was to return to the city the next day and had descended from the mountain a day earlier, settling in a small courtyard at the foot of Baili Mountain. Along with Dong Lei, she was also accompanied by Xiao Cui and the four sisters from Jinyu Liangyuan who insisted on escorting her home.

“Do you have to do this? Are we heading to the City Lord’s Mansion for that messy meeting again? Such a big show!” Gu Changsheng’s lips twitched almost imperceptibly as she watched them bring out that extravagant sedan.

She felt relieved that Han Qiu was too scared to come down the mountain.

Before descending the mountain, according to the remnants of the Five Elements and Eight Trigrams, she had set up a Mystical Array around the stronghold within a hundred li. Those who knew the Formation should not be impeded, but people like Zhou Zongbao definitely couldn’t get in.

There were too many things in her stronghold that outsiders must not know about, such as explosives, such as the heavy crossbows…

Even Zhou Zongbao, she would not let him barge in!

“Madam, Yuan Bao sent a message saying that tonight the line to give gifts is already packed in front of our house. If Madam doesn’t return with that grand entrance, we might not even be able to get into our own door!” Xiao Cui was tidying up the curtains of the sedan chair as she explained.

Gu Changsheng looked up at the sky, speechless. If she didn’t make a grand entrance, could she really not enter her own home?

Whom had she offended?

“Mom, are we going home tomorrow? My swing is ready. Is the big tree I used to swing from still there?” Little Meat Bun Gu Ze snuggled beside Gu Changsheng’s leg and looked up at her hopefully.

Alright! After months of relentless effort, Little Meat Bun had indeed managed to make a decent swing.

Gu Changsheng glanced at the swing frame tied to the carriage. She had to admit, her son really had a talent for carpentry. The birds carved on the seat were so lifelike, it was impressive.

“Don’t worry, Yuan Bao said they’ve moved a lot of ancient trees over to our house, there must be a couple suitable for your swing,” she said as she affectionately rubbed her son’s two little hair buns.

“That’s great! Hehe… Mom, tomorrow is my birthday, right? Aunt Cui said that after tomorrow, I’ll be five years old!”

Gu Changsheng bent down and held her son’s outstretched hand, gently rubbing his little cheek, “Yes, my baby boy is turning five years old, you’re becoming quite the little man!”

Little Meat Bun smiled brightly and nodded seriously, “Brother Mo said that when I grow up and become skilled in martial arts, I can protect you. Mom, I’ll protect you in the future, and if anyone bullies you, I’ll go beat them up for you!”

Watching her son’s tiny fists sway, Gu Changsheng couldn’t help but burst into laughter. The scar on her son’s neck had faded so much that it was barely noticeable without close inspection, and his entire little person was just adorable, making one want to hold him and cherish him.

“My adorably naive little boy, you really are Mom’s good son, mwah!” Gu Changsheng couldn’t resist and planted a big kiss on her son’s cheek.

“Hehe… Mom, you’re taking advantage of me again. My future wife will get jealous, hehe…” Little Meat Bun giggled, looking even more adorably naive.

“Pfft! Did your master teach you that again? With not even all your fuzz grown in yet, you’re already talking about wives all the time. Whether she even exists or not, you’re really eager!” Gu Changsheng laughed as she playfully flicked Little Gu Ze’s nose.

The interaction between mother and son was full of warmth.

When Yuan Bao arrived breathlessly and saw this scene, he paused for a moment, a look of panic flashing across his face, then made a slight bow and hurried to whisper to Zhou Mu, who was reading under a tree.

Gu Changsheng held her son and frowned slightly as she watched the two whispering under the tree.

Yuan Bao seemed anxious, and Zhou Mu’s face also darkened slightly after hearing his report.

What could it be that warranted such secrecy? They had never avoided her before, no matter the issue.

The next moment, Zhou Mu stood up and walked towards her, his face still showing a hint of apology, “My love, I need to return to the city earlier. I will definitely visit your mansion tomorrow to celebrate.”

Gu Changsheng, puzzled, looked up, “What’s the matter? Has something changed with the military situation in Southern Fujian? Or has Zhou Zongbao returned?”

Gu Changsheng realized after speaking that her suspicion was wrong. If there was a change in Southern Fujian, the news would have come by carrier pigeon, and even if Zhou Mu returned to the city, it would do no good. Besides, if Zhou Zongbao were back, he would come straight here looking for Han Qiu instead of waiting obediently in Liuzhou City.

What exactly was the issue?

“No,” Zhou Mu hesitated, then explained, “An old friend was passing through Liuzhou City and encountered some trouble. I need to go back and check.”

Yuan Bao, hearing his master summarize the visitor as an “old friend,” couldn’t help but feel anxious for his master.

The sooner this is explained, the better, to prevent any misunderstandings from arising and upsetting Lady Changsheng!

“Kun Nu, stay back and protect her. Make sure you escort her safely into the city,” Zhou Mu spoke coldly to someone hidden, oblivious to Yuan Bao’s suggestive glances.

“As you wish,” Kun Nu’s distinct, husky voice came from the shadows.

Zhou Mu then turned around, embraced them both, and gently kissed Gu Changsheng’s forehead.

“Isn’t there something urgent? Go on, quick, it’s getting dark!” Gu Changsheng gave him a reassuring look, her mood quite light.

Zhou Mu took one more deep look at her before turning and walking towards the door.

Seeing her husband walk out, Yuan Bao turned and saw Gu Changsheng still joking with her son as if it were none of her business. He stomped his foot in frustration and whispered urgently, “Lady Changsheng, how can you still afford to laugh!”

“Err…” Gu Changsheng, still playing with her son’s fingers, was startled. What was going on? Zhou Mu had left, and she couldn’t even laugh anymore?

“His friend’s last name is Huo!” Yuan Bao gave her a nervous glance toward the door, dropped this piece of information, and dashed out anxiously.
