Chapter 317: Chapter 197 Red Sleeve Adds Fragrance at Night Chapter 317: Chapter 197 Red Sleeve Adds Fragrance at Night Han Shan and several of the eunuchs who were confidants of Emperor Zhoulin just watched helplessly as Prince Bao lunged forward and became entangled in a fight with Emperor Zhoulin, anxious like ants on a hot pot, yet not daring to step forward and pull them apart.

“Fool! Incompetent and inept trash! I ordered you to slaughter Xiao Qiu and his entire family, I ordered you to attack me underhandedly while I was away, I’ll beat you to death, you old immortal!”

Emperor Zhoulin, having been in a lofty position for so long, now found his dragon crown askew and his dragon robe torn, on top of being angered by Zhou Mu and Gu Changsheng just a moment ago. His temper flared, and he instantly got into a scuffle with Zhou Zongbao.

You punch me, I kick you, neither willing to give an inch, while cursing each other non-stop.

“I am acting with justice. Who do you think you are, having no respect for superiors, acting on impulses? I am your imperial brother!”

“I have no such good-for-nothing imperial brother like you, you fool! I’ll strip you of your dragon robe, I’m sick of you playing emperor!”

“Go ahead, strip it! Strip it! If you strip it off, you sit here! Do you really think I’m afraid of you?”

“Rip…”

The court beads scattered all over the floor, bouncing everywhere, terrifying Han Shan and the rest into a panicked scattering.

“Your Highness Prince Bao, please stop, Your Majesty, Your Majesty, please stop fighting.”

Han Shan could only timidly offer advice from a distance, not daring to intervene physically. On the ground, tangled in a fight, was the current emperor, the august sovereign, and Prince Bao, a First-Class Companion Prince with a worth of ten thousand gold. Both of them were untouchable by just anyone; he wouldn’t fare well no matter whom he tried to pull away!

The commotion in the Qiankun Hall was tremendous; when the Imperial Inner Guards on duty arrived, they were all dumbfounded by the scene.

The emperor, His Majesty, was actually fighting?

And someone was actually daring to fight with the emperor?

Godfather! That scared the life out of someone!

The rookie guard snapped out of it, his face excited as he thrust his spear forward, not forgetting to call out to his direct superior, “Boss, what are you dazed for, save the emperor! This is a great opportunity for merit, why not take it!”

“Smack!”

A slap landed mercilessly on the back of his head, as the chief guard scolded him in a low voice full of disappointment, “You imbecile! Save the emperor? Save what emperor? Didn’t your family ever give you an introduction to the people and rules of the palace before sending you here?”

The rookie guard, slapped into confusion, looked again at the ground. The emperor was grappling vigorously with someone, his dragon crown fallen, hair disheveled, court beads scattered, dragon robe nearly torn to rags…

“Save the emperor indeed! I’ve never seen anyone more imbecilic than you. Open your dog eyes and see clearly, that’s Prince Bao! The Prince Bao who was granted the title of Peerage King by the emperor himself! The emperor’s very own brother, feared by everyone in the Capital City to the extent that they avoid him at all costs, the Little Overlord Hetian, Prince Bao. If you have the guts, try to save him and see what happens! If you dare, tomorrow you’ll be stripped naked and hung on the city walls; Prince Bao is used to doing this kind of thing. Over these years, there must be at least eighty if not a hundred people he has hung on the walls!” The chief guard explained in a hushed, fearful voice, pulling the rookie guard back a few steps, “They’re fighting it out like two dragons playing with beads, what’s it to us small fish and shrimps? Stand behind me and stay put!”

As they whispered among themselves, only daring to watch from afar and not approach, on the battlefield, Emperor Zhoulin’s situation was already quite dire.

One eye was blackened, his nose was dripping with blood, and his lip was split, indescribably wretched.

Though Emperor Zhoulin had had martial training in his youth to strengthen himself, after many years of luxury and as he’d grown older, he quickly found himself at a disadvantage.

There’s a saying that a wise man knows better than to fight when the odds are against him, and Emperor Zhoulin understood that no matter how much Zhou Zongbao beat him, it was all in vain. In his youth, he could have complained to his imperial father or mother, but now, there was no one left to turn to for justice! Hence, when Emperor Zhoulin found an opening, he rolled on the spot, got up, and ran towards the harem.

He couldn’t count on anyone to come to his rescue; looking around the Zhou Dynasty, it seemed there were few who would dare to stand in Zhou Zongbao’s way. Having no choice, he fled.

Emperor Zhoulin ran ahead, while Zhou Zongbao, with fangs bared and claws outstretched, relentlessly pursued him from behind.

“Zhou Lin, stand still for me, you scoundrel!”

The Yanxi Palace, located closest to the Qiankun Hall, was inhabited by Noble Consort Xi. Emperor Zhoulin, with the speed of one greased lightning, dashed ahead of Zhou Zongbao and, like a man fleeing for his life, crashed through the doors of Noble Consort Xi’s bed chamber.

The eunuchs and palace maids on the night watch were stunned just to catch a glimpse of a yellow figure dashing past, and in the blink of an eye, it dived into Noble Consort Xi’s red silk canopy.

When Zhou Zongbao, carrying a shoe, arrived in pursuit, he watched helplessly as Emperor Zhoulin leapt into the red gauze canopy.
