Chapter 85: Chapter 45 The Butcher with a Broken Belly_2

“Blood, so much blood…” The people outside were in disarray. With so much blood, could that person still be alive?

“Didn’t the Gu Family Medical Hall just throw out Butcher Wang yesterday? How come he’s seeking help again today?” A patient gossiped about the situation.

“Are you silly, didn’t you hear Wang’s wife calling for Doctor Liu? Doctor Liu is best at treating external injuries. It seems he must have gone to the Lau Family Medical Hall and not found anyone before coming here,” another woman explained, lifting her lips towards the medical hall.

Indeed, all the renowned doctors in Liuzhou were now gathered at the Gu Family Medical Hall.

Doctor Liu was naturally no exception.

Gu Changsheng looked at the trail of blood leading from outside to inside the door, then glanced at Butcher Wang lying on a door panel. He hurriedly stepped forward to check but before he could get close, an arm blocked him and pushed him fiercely backward.

...

Concerned about the severity of Butcher Wang’s injuries, Gu Changsheng, unprepared, was pushed back several steps before he steadied himself, confusion on his face.

“So you’re Lady Changsheng? The reckless abandoned wife, no wonder you were divorced! If it wasn’t for you throwing out my family’s slaughterman yesterday and taking all his silver coins, how could he have been distracted and got knocked by a pig? He has been in the butchering trade all his life, and you, you harmer…” Wang’s wife not only pushed Gu Changsheng but also started crying hysterically after slapping her thighs.

“This is not the time to argue. It’s more important to check his injuries now. He’s bleeding from the abdominal cavity, and without timely treatment, his life is in danger,” Gu Changsheng, with a headache, rubbed her forehead. Was she really being blamed for this now?

“Who needs your fake sympathy!” Wang’s wife jumped up at hearing this and pointed at Gu Changsheng, shouting, “It’s you, you witch, using some vixen’s tricks to lure all the doctors in Liuzhou here. I tell you, if anything happens to my slaughterman, I will not let you off.”

“Doctor Liu, Doctor Liu, please hurry up and look at this! My family’s slaughterman’s belly is all exposed, and his intestines are about to pop out. You must save him, otherwise our whole family will have no way to live…” After scolding Gu Changsheng, Wang’s wife turned and grabbed Doctor Liu, dragging him to the door panel where Butcher Wang lay, like clutching at a lifeline.

Doctor Liu, the first to respond to Gu Changsheng that day and willing to share some of his family’s medical prescriptions, was a straightforward man. Seeing this, he did not decline and stepped forward to gently lift the cloth covering Butcher Wang’s belly.

The cloth was already soaked with blood, still dripping, and the smell of blood was pungent. The injury was frightening.

Gu Changsheng furrowed her brow and took two steps forward, scrutinizing the injury. Butcher Wang, already pale, had fallen unconscious; the wound on his abdomen was over ten centimeters long, with intestines visibly extruding.

The situation with the injury did not look good. It was uncertain whether even Doctor Liu, skilled in treating external injuries, could handle it.

Wang’s wife continued to cry uncontrollably. Butcher Wang was young and strong and the main provider of his family by butchering; now, he was likely beyond help, and his life was still in question. How could she not be concerned?

Even Doctor Liu, accustomed to bloodiness, jumped at the sight of the wound. It was nearly like being gutted.

The other doctors upon seeing this also unconsciously stepped back. It was just too shocking.

This Butcher Wang, a lifetime butcher, now feared to be defeated by the slaughtering knife.

People sighed. This was also the retribution for killing too many. Pigs might be livestock, but they were still creatures with lives.

After examining, Doctor Liu stood up, and Wang’s wife anxiously looked towards him.

He shook his head gravely, “The wound is too severe, even applying hemostatic medicine might be futile. Wang’s wife, you better go home and prepare for the worst.”

With such an injury, it was unlikely for anyone to survive. Doctor Liu shook his head regretfully. A life, vibrant just moments before, now nearly stepping into a coffin, beyond saving.

“Doctor Liu, Doctor Liu, aren’t you best at treating external wounds? It’s just a belly cut by a slaughtering knife, you surely can save him…” Wang’s wife, shaken by these words, suddenly trembled and fell to her knees before Doctor Liu, gripping his hem and refusing to let go.

Doctor Liu tried to pull her up by the arm but failed to lift her, merely urging again, “Doctors do not treat those certain to die. With Butcher Wang like this, his intestines visible, what more can be done? Please forgive me, my skills are limited.”

Wang’s wife was momentarily dazed as if struck by thunder, then she turned and threw herself onto Butcher Wang, crying, “This is truly lethal, my poor husband…”

She had not even finished crying when Gu Changsheng, impatient, yanked her up and threw her to the side, not even turning her head as she rebuked, “It’s this kind of reckless behavior that is really lethal! Butcher Wang is lucky; though the wound is large, the major artery isn’t cut. Otherwise, he would have bled to death on the way here, and there would have been no need for your disruptive antics!”

Wang’s wife was instantly at a loss for words.

Meanwhile, Doctor Liu uncertainly stepped forward, asking respectfully, “Lady Changsheng, in your opinion, is such a wound indeed beyond saving with medicine?”

He did not know whether Lady Changsheng was skilled in treating external injuries, but her prescriptions were indeed appropriate for the symptoms and brilliantly crafted.

“It’s just an open abdominal wound, why would it be beyond saving with medicine?” Gu Changsheng opened Butcher Wang’s eyelid to take a look, then carefully re-examined the wound, slightly knitting her brows.

She was a military doctor; external injuries were her specialty, yet in this situation, she too was not sure if she could save him.
