Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 81: Chapter 43 Ruffian Looking for Trouble_2

The prescription had passed through the hands of many doctors behind the dispensing table, giving rise to a wave of quiet discussions.

Patients were deeply grateful to Gu Changsheng, their words of thanks varied, and the name of Lady Changsheng quickly spread.

“Disperse! Disperse! Which of you dares to block my way?” A discordant voice rang out, causing panic among the waiting patients.

“Ouch…” An elderly man was shoved against the door frame, crying out as he clutched his waist.

Seeing this, Gu Changsheng gave an apologetic look to the patient in front of her and walked toward the commotion.

...

“Lady, it’s Mo Wu, the young uncle-in-law of the Lord of Liuzhou City, notoriously ill-reputed,” Elder Xu took on Uncle Song’s role, quietly explaining behind her.

Even without explanation, Gu Changsheng had seen a flamboyantly dressed man accompanied by four or five servant boys, arrogantly standing at the entrance of her medical hall.

Gu Changsheng couldn’t care less about him and went straight to help the fallen elder, asking with concern, “Elder, where did you get hurt?”

The elder stood up with Gu Changsheng’s assistance, hastily retreated a step, and waved his hands in a frightened manner, “It’s nothing, nothing. This old man is fine… ”

Understanding his fear of this man named Mo Wu, Gu Changsheng carefully checked the elder over to ensure he was not seriously hurt before she felt relieved.

“So you’re the lady who claims to have divine acupuncture skills?” Mo Wu crossed his arms in front of his chest, looking disdainful with one of his rooster eyes cocked.

“I am Gu Changsheng,” she replied coldly, eyeing the presumptuous fop before her. They say true pretension is not easily mastered; foppery itself is an art. She considered herself to have thoroughly researched this art, aiming for high-end excellence, whereas this Mo Wu obviously exemplified the low-end disgrace.

Compared to Mo Wu, Young Master Du Chenzhi was far inferior. To draw a tiger but to paint a dog reveals true mediocrity, just like the man before her.

The patients had already stepped back, and even those who were timid and fearful were quietly shuffling towards the door, trying to slip out.

Clearly, Mo Wu’s bad reputation was well-known and fearsome—just look how people are terrified!

“Tsk tsk… You don’t look all that impressive, but you have quite the nerve, causing such a stir. Did you ask for my permission?” Mo Wu spat contemptuously, and by unfortunate coincidence, his spittle landed right in front of Gu Changsheng.

Gu Changsheng could tolerate his worthless dandyism but would never tolerate him dirtying her clothes!

Stepping aside to avoid the splatter, Gu Changsheng narrowed her Red Phoenix Eyes at the man before her. A flash of cold light passed in her eyes as she spoke in an icy tone, “You’re Mo Wu? The little uncle-in-law of the Lord of Liuzhou City?”

Mo Wu, proud of his own identity, tilted his head disdainfully and glanced at Gu Changsheng, “That’s right, I am!”

“And you’re coming to my medical hall today. Does your brother-in-law, the City Lord, know about it?” Gu Changsheng approached him steadily and stood firm.

“Such trivial matters needn’t trouble my brother-in-law. You’d best be sensible. I’ve come here today to give you a warning. You’ll be shown the way to the Mo Mansion and instructed on what to do,” Mo Wu said, eyeing the doctors who hid behind the dispensing table and didn’t dare to come out.

Following his gaze, Gu Changsheng saw that most of the doctors shrank back when looked at by Mo Wu—a profound example of how tyranny breeds cowards.

But Chief Hu Yihai, anxious and hesitating, stepped forward to give Gu Changsheng a compromising look. Then, with a deep bow and a humble voice, he said, “Master Mo Wu, please forgive us. It was my oversight, my oversight. I request that Master Mo Wu forgive Lady Changsheng for her ignorance on her first return to Liuzhou.”

Seeing the leading doctor Hu Yihai speak up, the others echoed in agreement, expressing their pleas for leniency.

“Master Mo Wu, please grant your forgiveness,” Elder Xu also voiced his anxiety and protective intention.

Gu Changsheng took a long look at Hu Yihai. This chief, with his goatee and shrewd demeanor, had been aggressive for profit during their first meeting, and she had firmly put him in his place the next time they saw each other. She had thought they would be incompatible, yet he had led these doctors to her medical hall to watch and had even taken notes on her prescriptions.

Now, he was the first to speak out on her behalf.

Initially, these doctors did not give her a sense of belonging. Working in medicine, she never intended to keep secrets, as the education she had received taught her just that.

Still, being protected by so many of her colleagues like this was comforting; she appreciated it!

Mo Wu looked down at the crowd with accustomed superiority as he nodded at the flattery and pleas from the doctors of Liuzhou.

Seeing a potential resolution in sight, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

“Since you’re so compliant, I don’t want to make trouble with a woman. You know what to do. I’ll be going now. Just don’t make me wait too long,” Mo Wu declared, signaling his servant boys to follow him as he started to leave.

“Wait!”

An icy reprimand halted his departure.

Mo Wu turned stiffly, his face sour as he looked toward the source of the sound.

It was undoubtedly Gu Changsheng.

Everybody thought the worst and quickly stepped forward to calm things.

“Master Mo, please don’t blame her, Lady Changsheng is just a bit loud, nothing more. I’ll escort you back right away,” Hu Yihai approached Mo Wu with a fawning gesture to assist him, but Mo Wu shook him off.

“Am I a fool? Now you tell me to leave, but I’ve changed my mind—I won’t go now!” Mo Wu snorted coldly, challenging Gu Changsheng.

Just a common woman who knows a bit of medical skills, what of it?

How dare she stand up to him? She must be tired of living!
