Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 1706: Chapter 1041: Demon Beast Attack

Sky Cloud Sword Sect, Jade Sky Hall.

”True Monarch, we have just received news that the Gray-horned Green Ox, Red Bone Sand Nightmare Beast, and White-scaled Snake clans have all been wiped out by the Unpredictable Ghost Sect.”

Yun Ge reported as he stood before Yang Zhenshan.

In just a few days, An Wusheng and Yu Yuan had eradicated several demon clans in the northern part of the Wanhua Mountain Range, causing the demon forces in the northern Wanhua Mountain Range to fall into panic.

Yang Zhenshan put away the jade scroll in his hand and asked, ”Has there been any movement from the Demon Court?”

”No! The three Demon Venerables have not appeared. I’ve heard that many Demon Kings have asked the three Demon Venerables to preside over justice, but they haven’t been able to meet them. Now, even the nine great demon clans are in a panic, and it seems that the three Demon Kings of True Yang Immortal City are feeling uneasy!” Yun Ge said.

Yang Zhenshan got up and paced back and forth in the hall, pondering over what information might be hidden behind this matter.

The first thing that puzzled him was why the Unpredictable Ghost Sect was on a killing spree in the Wanhua Mountain Range. Shouldn’t the Ghost Sect be looking for the culprit who destroyed the Blood Pool? Why are they inexplicably causing trouble for the demon clans?

Logically, An Wusheng and Yu Yuan should be looking for Lin Qihe.

Furthermore, the reaction of the Wanhua Demon Court was also perplexing. Although the Demon Court traditionally had little binding power over many demon clans, in name, it was still the ruler of ten thousand demons in the Wanhua Mountain Range. An Wusheng and Yu Yuan’s actions were undoubtedly challenging the authority of the Wanhua Demon Court.

Could it be that the Wanhua Demon Court is afraid of the Unpredictable Ghost Sect and thus dare not intervene?

Lastly, and most importantly, what exactly is the Unpredictable Ghost Sect trying to do? Their actions do not seem like they are searching for a culprit but rather causing chaos in the Wanhua Mountain Range.

Yang Zhenshan pondered for a long time but couldn’t fathom the Ghost Sect’s motivations.

”What about the Human Clan forces? Have they targeted any Human Clan forces?” Yang Zhenshan asked.

”No, they currently seem to be targeting only the demon forces!” Yun Ge replied.

Yang Zhenshan stroked his beard and clicked his tongue, ”This is really strange.”

Yun Ge also found it strange. If even Yang Zhenshan couldn’t understand the situation, he was even more puzzled.

”Forget it. Arrange for someone to keep an eye on True Yang Immortal City and gather more information. As for everything else, there’s no need to intervene for now,” Yang Zhenshan instructed.

If the sky falls, a tall man will hold it up.

After all, the Wanhua Mountain Range is the territory of the Wanhua Demon Court. Their Sky Cloud Sword Sect is just situated in a corner and doesn’t need to worry about these matters concerning the demon clans.

Yang Zhenshan believed that since this matter did not involve the Sky Cloud Sword Sect, there was no need for them to get involved.

”Yes, understood,” Yun Ge replied respectfully.

Yang Zhenshan nodded slightly, ”You may go now!”

After Yun Ge left, Yang Zhenshan stood at the hall entrance, stroking his beard and contemplating for a long time, still without any clues.

He thought about asking Qingyuan Demon Venerable, but after consideration, he decided against it.

Although he had some acquaintance with Qingyuan Demon Venerable, their relationship wasn’t deep, merely a matter of courtesy. Qingyuan Demon Venerable might not be willing to explain the situation to him.

So Yang Zhenshan thought it best to stay honestly at the Sky Cloud Sword Sect.

Mind your own business and stay detached.

...

As time passed day by day, the atmosphere in the Wanhua Mountain Range became increasingly tense. The Unpredictable Ghost Sect continued their rampage across the Wanhua Mountain Range, recklessly slaughtering numerous demon clans.

At first, they only wiped out three Demon King clans, but later, they started attacking the ordinary demon clans.

Even the Demon Kings couldn’t resist them, let alone those ordinary demon clans.

As more and more demon clans were massacred, the atmosphere of panic in the Wanhua Mountain Range intensified, causing many demons to find ways to escape the Wanhua Mountain Range.

How many demon beasts are there in the Wanhua Mountain Range?

No one has counted it carefully.

The so-called demon cultivators refer to mutant beasts that cultivate demon cultivation techniques and advance to a second-order demon beast. Although they are also called demon cultivators before advancing, in normal circumstances, the term demon beast refers to second-order demon beasts, not those mutant beasts practicing demon cultivation techniques.

The entire Wanhua Mountain Range spans the entire Wanhua Domain from north to south, roughly about a hundred thousand li in length, and about three to four thousand to ten thousand li in width from east to west.

Such a vast mountain range, nobody knows how many demon beasts are hidden in it, nor how many demon beast clans there are.

On the surface, there are over thirty Demon Kings in the Wanhua Mountain Range, but in reality, the number of Demon Kings might not be less than fifty.

However, the area the Unpredictable Ghost Sect is targeting is in the northern part of the Wanhua Mountain Range, roughly to the east of the Yunxiao Mountain Range.

They have been on a killing spree in the northern part of the Wanhua Mountain Range, causing many demon beasts in the northern area to feel panic and flee their territories, resulting in a large number of demon beasts escaping into the boundaries of the Yunxiao Mountain Range.

The Yunxiao Mountain Range is the territory of the Sky Cloud Sword Sect, and within it, many peaks are occupied by the Foundation Establishment elders of the Sky Cloud Sword Sect as their cultivation dao fields.

Additionally, many Immortal Cultivation Families and demon clans in the Yunxiao Mountain Range are vassals of the Sky Cloud Sword Sect.

Now, with a large influx of demon clans from the Wanhua Mountain Range entering the Yunxiao Mountain Range, it naturally creates chaos within it.

The Wen family, Cloud Peak.

The Wen family, once one of the five great families of the Cloud Wild Alliance, is headed by Wen Yu, a renowned lady from the White Cloud Immortal City.

After the establishment of the Sky Cloud Sword Sect, the Cloud Wild Alliance was disbanded, the Kuang family, which had colluded with the Yellow Springs Hall, was destroyed, and the remaining Luo family, Shen family, Wen family, and Mu family all joined the Sky Cloud Sword Sect.

Thus, Luo Cheng, Shen Ming, Wen Yu, and Mu Xuan became Foundation Establishment elders of the Sky Cloud Sword Sect.

As Immortal Cultivation Families with a long heritage in White Cloud Immortal City, after the establishment of the Sky Cloud Sword Sect, they picked a feng shui treasure within the Yunxiao Mountain Range as their cultivation dao fields.

Of course, the feng shui treasures they chose were just peaks for elders in the Sky Cloud Sword Sect, mainly tasked with nurturing outer sect disciples for the sect. Most of their families remained in White Cloud Immortal City.

Cloud Peak is Wen Yu’s peak for elders, hidden deep in the nine-layer Spiritual Mist, with its peak body resembling a tilted jade hairpin piercing the Cloud Sea, and the peak is surrounded year-round by a faint golden spiral of Spiritual Energy.

Dozens of suspended buildings are embedded into the cliff faces within the Spiritual Mist, all constructed of Purple Sandalwood, with roofs tiled with Moonstone, gleaming softly by day and appearing like stars dropping on the mountainside by night. The suspended buildings are connected by a Rainbow Bridge, made from woven Spirit Vines that sway slightly underfoot, with the rustle of leaves sounding melodiously.

Though only established for over twenty years, Cloud Peak already bears the aura of a Blessed Land of the Immortal Family.

On this day, Wen Yu was cultivating in the small courtyard among the clouds when a streak of light suddenly landed in front of the courtyard’s entrance.

”Nephew Wen Qiao requests to see aunt!”

Wen Qiao appeared to be in his forties, with handsome features and a tall, lithe frame, exuding an extraordinary presence.

”Come in!”

A hoarse voice, unique to Wen Yu, came from inside the courtyard.

Wen Qiao pushed open the door and entered the small courtyard. The courtyard was not large, with a Wen Yulan tree planted there. Its trunk glowed with a sheen like mutton-fat jade, the petals stretching out and catching the Yu Lu, and Wen Yu sat cross-legged beneath the Wen Yulan tree.

Xiao Yun Peak is Elder Peak of the Sky Cloud Sword Sect, but it is not just one Foundation Establishment cultivator. Although the Sky Cloud Sword Sect allows each Foundation Establishment elder to establish their own Elder Peak, in practice, only the late-stage Foundation Establishment elders do so.

Other Foundation Establishment cultivators either find a role in the Sect’s Seven Halls or cultivate with a Foundation Establishment elder who owns an Elder Peak.

Wen Yu is the Wen family’s ancestor, and naturally, a few Wen family members are at her disposal.

Wen Qiao is the one she keeps by her side to handle miscellaneous tasks. Wen Qiao is responsible for managing almost all of Xiao Yun Peak’s affairs, big and small.

”Is there something?” Wen Yu raised her head, her sharp eyes fixed on Wen Qiao.

Wen Qiao’s expression was somewhat grim, ”Aunt, Xiao Lin Mountain has been attacked by demon beasts, and several stewards and disciples on the mountain have all perished!”

Wen Yu’s eyes narrowed slightly, ”Where did the demon beasts come from?”

The Elder Peak of the Sky Cloud Sword Sect does not refer to a single mountain peak but rather an Outer Sect, somewhat like a small sect. It has its own medicinal garden and orchard, even mineral veins, and can autonomously recruit Outer Sect disciples to be trained and sent to the Sect Headquarters.

And Xiao Lin Mountain is the spirit fruit planting base of Xiao Yun Peak, located eighty miles east of Xiao Yun Peak.

Although the Yunxiao Mountain Range also has demon beasts, they mostly gather near Cangyu Mountain, which is a vassal of Cangyu Mountain.

When Wen Yu chose Xiao Yun Peak as her Dao Field, it was because there were neither immortal cultivation forces nor demon beast clans nearby.

Logically speaking, there should be no demon beast attacks here.

”It’s a group of Poison Fang Vipers, about a hundred in total, with twelve of them being demon beasts!”

”There are no Poison Fang Vipers in our Yunxiao Mountain Range; they likely came from the Wanhua Mountain Range!”

Wen Qiao said.

Xiao Yun Peak is located in the eastern part of the Yunxiao Mountain Range, southwest of White Cloud Immortal City, approximately seven to eight hundred miles from the Wanhua Mountain Range, and is the closest of the many Elder Peaks of the Sky Cloud Sword Sect to the Wanhua Mountain Range.

”Twelve demon beasts?” Wen Yu’s expression changed slightly.

Twelve demon beasts equate to twelve Foundation Establishment cultivators, a significant force capable of threatening Xiao Yun Peak.

At this moment, Wen Yu’s face suddenly turned extremely dark.

”They’ve arrived!”

”Quickly, activate the Protective Array!”

With that, she flew into the sky, heading to the east side of Xiao Yun Peak.

Meanwhile, Wen Qiao was initially stunned, then hurriedly flew towards a suspended building on the cliff below.

At this time, in the forest on the east side of Xiao Yun Peak, there were over a hundred huge snakes slithering forward. Among them, the longest were twenty to thirty zhang long, and the shortest were seven to eight zhang long.

It isn’t that the longer the body, the stronger the power. Quite the opposite, among these Poison Fang Vipers, the larger ones are merely second-order mutant beasts, while those measuring seven to eight zhang are actually demon beasts.

Wen Yu initially intended to stop these Poison Fang Vipers, but she was immediately attacked by clouds of poisonous gas right after flying out and found herself besieged by several Poison Fang Vipers, forcing her to retreat into the Protective Array.

The Protective Array of Xiao Yun Peak is only a second-order array, and it was only recently constructed, being a makeshift array at best.

The sudden attack plunged Xiao Yun Peak into chaos, but fortunately, the Protective Array could hold momentarily; otherwise, Xiao Yun Peak would have been slaughtered by this group of Poison Fang Vipers.

It’s important to note that there are over a hundred Outer Sect disciples and hundreds of martial artist workers on Xiao Yun Peak.

These Outer Sect disciples and martial artist workers are no match for the Poison Fang Vipers.

”Aunt, what should we do?” Wen Qiao asked Wen Yu while controlling the array.

Wen Yu looked at the Poison Fang Vipers attacking outside the array, her resolute face filled with murderous intent.

”Request aid from the Sect; if reinforcements do not arrive in time, we will fight them to the death!” Her hoarse voice was full of determination.

Wen Qiao took a deep breath, ”With aunt’s strength, leaving now is no issue. Aunt, leave this to me; I will fight to the end!”

”Aunt, our Wen family cannot be without you!”

Upon hearing this, Wen Yu’s expression softened, ”Deserting in the face of battle, how would the True Monarchs view me, how would they view our Wen family?”

”Today, if we fall in battle, perhaps the Wen family will lay dormant for a century, but as long as the True Monarchs recognize our contributions, the Wen family can thrive for a millennium!”

Deserting is easy, but what comes after?

The Sky Cloud Sword Sect has been established for just over twenty years and has not yet experienced any wars; this is a relatively large-scale battle. If she deserts, she and the Wen family will be nailed to the pillar of shame in the Sky Cloud Sword Sect.

Not to mention how the Sect would punish her and the Wen family, the Wen family would inevitably face exclusion within the Sect and would eventually decline.

For the Sect, she cannot escape; for her family, she cannot escape.

Wen Qiao hesitated for a moment but ultimately did not continue to persuade.

He knew his aunt’s character very well.

As a woman, she was tougher and sharper than any man.

If Wen Yu said there was no escaping, then there was no escaping.

Unless he betrayed the Sect and the family.

After deciding to stay, Wen Qiao focused all his attention on controlling the array, while Wen Yu prepared to fight to the death.
