Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 985: Chapter 693: A Spectacular Show

In the backyard, Chen Hengchang was awakened by the commotion and walked out of the bedroom with a somber expression, asking coldly, ”What’s the matter?”

”Prince, the front yard is on fire!” a trembling eunuch reported.

Chen Hengchang had already seen the flames rising in the front yard.

”On fire? A fire on a rainy day?”

Chen Hengchang felt as if he was being fooled.

It’s not impossible for a fire to start on a rainy day, but it shouldn’t be burning this fiercely.

This fire was likely to burn down the entire front yard of Prince Qing Mansion.

”Someone, hurry and invite all the officials!”

He felt a sense of foreboding, but he couldn’t pinpoint its source.

The eunuchs immediately went out to call for help.

Meanwhile, the fire in the front yard continued to burn.

”Prince, it’s terrible, the fire is spreading to the backyard!” someone came rushing to report.

Chen Hengchang had already seen it, and his face was as dark as a stormy cloud.

This was not a normal fire, as a typical fire would not be this intense in such rain.

Before Chen Hengchang could respond, a sudden explosion erupted from the fire.

With a loud boom, the fire suddenly exploded, with countless fire snakes shooting in all directions, shaking buildings and the ground alike.

The explosion was too sudden, catching Chen Hengchang completely off guard, almost knocking him over by the shock wave.

Several eunuchs hurried to support him, while Chen Hengchang stared at the rising flames in front, bewildered.

The fire was terrifying, almost encircling them.

At this point, Lin Fuan arrived, grabbing Chen Hengchang and escaping the fire.

But it was only after Chen Hengchang left his mansion that he realized the fires weren’t confined to his mansion; both inside and outside the city were ablaze.

”What is that?”

He looked toward the south of the city and his face changed dramatically.

”The granary is on fire?”

Lin Fuan, while pulling him to a safe spot, nodded, ”Yes, the entire granary has been engulfed by the flames!”

”How could this happen?” Chen Hengchang could no longer maintain his composure.

These were grains he had amassed with great difficulty, seized from countless wealthy families through bloodshed, intended for his campaign to the north.

He now lacked not only Silver Coin but also grains.

He supported tens of thousands of soldiers, consuming a vast amount of grains daily.

Although they had multiple granaries, the southern granary was their largest.

”Not just the granary, the armaments depot and government office are also on fire!” Lin Fuan said coldly.

”Someone buried a lot of fire oil underground in advance and poured plenty before setting the fire!”

Chen Hengchang was now bewildered. Burying fire oil underground and pouring a lot before setting fire?

Leaving aside other places, both his mansion and the granary were heavily guarded. Who could achieve this unnoticed?

This wasn’t something one or two people could do, nor something accomplished in a day or two.

”Who is it?” Chen Hengchang asked hoarsely.

Lin Fuan’s expression was equally tense, his gaze scanning the crowd.

The Prince Qing Mansion wasn’t newly built, but it was renovated before Chen Hengchang settled in; the granary outside the city was newly constructed.

Burying a large amount of fire oil underground meant the preparations began long ago.

The arsonists tonight weren’t just a few individuals, but were organized and premeditated.

It might even require help from guards at the mansion and granary.

The guards were mostly Divine Sun Sect members.

This indicated some internal issues with the Divine Sun Sect.

Thinking this, Lin Fuan felt a chill run down his spine.

At this time, the high-ranking members of Divine Sun Sect arrived, including Ji Feiyu, Fei Mingyue, Wang Chongzhen, and Ling Bufu, the Guardian Kings.

Ji Feiyu also seemed suspicious, contemplating potential internal issues within the Divine Sun Sect.

Suddenly, he paused and asked sharply, ”Where is Lv Hua?”

Only then did everyone notice Lv Hua was absent.

With such a major event in the city, Lv Hua couldn’t possibly be unaware, and even if he was, they had sent someone for him.

But Lv Hua still hadn’t shown up, making it clear Lv Hua was responsible for all of this.

”Damn it, an ungrateful bastard!” Chen Hengchang cursed angrily.

Lv Hua’s betrayal enraged him.

He thought he treated Lv Hua generously, sincerely wishing to win Lv Hua’s loyalty.

”What are you waiting for? Go and capture that traitor for me! I’ll tear him to pieces!”

Where was Lv Hua?

He was on the East City gate tower in Jiangning Prefecture, watching the blazing fires.

”Haha, the show has just begun! Hope it doesn’t disappoint you!”

He had planned this spectacle for a long time, though initially not for today, burying fire oil merely as a precaution.

His infiltration into the Divine Sun Sect was routine; for the Secret Martial Guards, monitoring internally was more formidable than targeting external forces.

The Divine Sun Sect, in his eyes, was riddled with flaws.

The hidden Divine Sun Sect was impenetrable from outside, as outsiders couldn’t locate it.

But exposed to the world, the Divine Sun Sect was full of flaws.

The Divine Sun Sect lacked internal harmony; many members were resentful of the Divine Sun Sect. Not everyone was willing to transform into beasts, possibly losing sanity at any moment for the sake of cultivation.
