Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 973: Chapter 687: The Disliked Chen Buyu

In front of him, these guards were soldiers from Chongshan Town. They did not recognize Ma Yan, but they recognized the Yang family’s token.

After inspecting Ma Yan’s token, the guard respectfully returned the token to Ma Yan and said, ”The main steward inside is Da Fu!”

”Da Fu!” Ma Yan scratched his head and said, ”Please inform him, I am the steward by Mr. Si’s side!”

A new dynasty had already been established, but Yang Chengye did not have eunuchs serving him. He still used his previous attendants, Da Fu and Da Gui.

This was mainly because Yang Chengye’s harem had only Mrs. Yu as the empress, and she had many maids and old women around her, so there was no need for eunuchs.

Ma Yan was not familiar with Da Fu, mainly because Da Fu had always been with Yang Chengye and had always stayed in Chongshan Town.

However, they were all servants of the Yang family, so there was no need for formality between them.

In terms of their status in the Yang family, Ma Yan was actually above Da Fu, because the stewards around the grandchildren of the Yang family were all third-class stewards, while Ma Yan was a second-class steward.

Of course, this so-called ranking was not particularly strict, as the rankings were determined by the master they served.

The guard went inside to inform him, and after a moment, a chubby Da Fu came running out.

”Haha, Master Ma is back, please come in quickly!” Da Fu smiled as he welcomed Ma Yan.

Da Fu was much older than Ma Yan, because Yang Chengye was ten years older than Yang Mingzhao, and the Yang family would generally arrange two peers as playmates for the children when they were about eight years old.

So, Da Fu and Da Gui were the same age as Yang Chengye, while Ma Yan and Lu Bo were around the same age as Yang Mingzhao.

Ma Yan dared not put on airs in front of Da Fu and quickly smiled, ”Brother Da Fu, hahaha, sorry to bother you!”

After a few pleasantries, Da Fu looked at the people behind Ma Yan and asked, ”Who are these brothers?”

Ma Yan quickly introduced them, ”This is Lord Taiping, Chen Buyu, a disciple of Lord Wu. Over the years, he’s been working beside Mr. Si. These are all brothers from the Taiping Army!”

Upon hearing this, Da Fu said, ”So it’s the esteemed disciple of Lord Wu, haha.”

In Da Fu’s heart, anyone called Lord Taiping was still a junior, but being Lord Wu’s disciple was a different matter.

”You take these brothers to rest in the left courtyard, and I’ll take Master Ma and Brother Chen inside first!”

Da Fu instructed the guards at the gate.

He then led Ma Yan and Chen Buyu through the side gate of the Marquis Mansion.

Chen Buyu cautiously observed the Marquis Mansion as he followed behind.

To be honest, he felt a bit like Granny Li entering the Grand View Garden.

This Marquis Mansion had been abandoned for many years, but after Yang Zhenshan and Yang Chengye came to the capital, it was rebuilt again and looked even more splendid than before.

Now, Chen Buyu was not considered an unknown junior, as he held a high position in the Taiping Army.

After all, the original soldiers of the Taiping Army were under his father’s command and later followed him as mountain bandits.

The Taiping Army had become stronger, and Chen Buyu’s life had also become more prosperous. A couple of years ago, he even got married and had his own child.

In Shuzhou, he also had his own mansion, but it was still far inferior compared to the Marquis Mansion.

”Is the old Marquis at home?” Ma Yan asked.

”Yes, ever since His Majesty entered the capital, the old master and the old lady have been living in the mansion!” Da Fu replied.

Ma Yan’s eyes lit up, ”May I have the honor to pay him a visit?”

”I can’t make the decision on that. Wang Lei and Li Chang are in charge over there; we can go and ask!” Da Fu said.

Now that Yang Chengye was in the capital, Wang Lei and Li Chang no longer needed to follow him, so most of the personal attendants returned to Yang Zhenshan’s side.

Of course, Yang Zhenshan still left four personal followers with Yang Chengye to ensure the security of the Imperial City.

”Then I’ll trouble you, Brother Da Fu!” Ma Yan cupped his hands and said.

The group then arrived at the main courtyard. Naturally, Yang Zhenshan lived in the main courtyard, even though Yang Chengye was the Emperor and Mrs. Yu the Empress. The main courtyard still belonged to Yang Zhenshan and Yu Qingyi, while Yang Chengye and Mrs. Yu could only stay in the former courtyard of Yang Mingcheng, which was the Wutong Garden in the east wing.

Today was Yang Chengye’s coronation ceremony. Although Yang Zhenshan attended, he did not show himself, merely watching from a distance to prevent anyone from causing trouble.

After the ceremony ended, Yang Zhenshan returned.

He happened to be free at the moment and upon hearing that Ma Yan had arrived, he called him over.

”I pay my respects to the lord!” Ma Yan respectfully bowed.

Chen Buyu also bowed and said, ”Chen Buyu pays his respects to Master!”

Yang Zhenshan waved his hand, ”No need for such formalities.”

”You are the disciple Wu Zheng took in?”

He looked Chen Buyu over.

Chen Buyu quickly replied, ”Yes!”

”What’s your cultivation level?”

”Postnatal Seventh Layer!”

”Your age?”

”Already thirty-seven!”

Yang Zhenshan nodded slightly, ”A bit old, and cultivation is somewhat lacking!”

At thirty-seven, reaching the Postnatal Seventh Layer is decent outside, but in the Yang family, it seems unimpressive.

Yang Mingzhao is now only thirty-three, but his cultivation has already reached the Postnatal Eighth Layer.

Yang Chengxian is also thirty-seven this year, but he reached the Postnatal Ninth Layer a year ago.

The younger generation of the Yang family, the younger they are, the faster they cultivate.

This is because being younger means growing up drinking the Spiritual Spring Water.

When Yang Chengye was young, Yang Zhenshan had to secretly give him the Spiritual Spring Water. Back then, there was little Spiritual Spring Water in Yang Zhenshan’s hands, and it couldn’t be given endlessly to everyone in the Yang family.

By the time Yang Mingzhao was born, Yang Zhenshan could use the Spiritual Spring Water for Yang Mingzhao’s baths.
