Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 624: Chapter 518: The Matter that Troubles Yang Zhenshan_2

Ms. Wang spoke with her head lowered, ”It’s troubling father again.”

Humph, Father always says he’ll do nothing, he has said it many times, yet he hasn’t found a suitable young lord for Wanqing.

Yu Qingyi watched Yang Zhenshan stroking his beard with an embarrassed look, her eyes full of schadenfreude.

She well understood the awkwardness in Yang Zhenshan’s heart; it wasn’t the first time Ms. Wang had brought up the matter.

Yang Zhenshan thought there was nothing wrong with free love, but he overlooked one issue: free love could easily result in leftover men and women past the prime age of marriage.

Parental orders and matchmaker’s words, not to say whether they are good matches or not, at least they can get married. But with free love, it could mean not getting married for a lifetime.

As for the affection between husband and wife, that’s really hard to say.

Whether they are as inseparable as glue or as harmonious as lifting a case to eyebrow-level, in fact, as long as it is stable, that is a good marriage.

Especially in such a feudal society, marriage is something you can’t force too much.

Even among the couples in the Yang family, not everything goes as desired.

Take the honest Yang Mingcheng for example; could Ms. Wang really expect him to do something romantic?

Yang Mingzhi is devoted to official duties; in Fuzhou City, Ms. Li should not expect him to take care of the family either.

Yang Chengye and Mrs. Yu are indeed loving, but Yang Chengmao is now a martial arts fanatic; the Xue Family can only follow his lead in everything.

Then there are those who were married off, like Yunyan and Jiang He. If Yunyan were a bit stronger in character, Jiang He’s life wouldn’t be so peaceful.

Yunxue and Liang Jinyan have a good relationship, but Liang Jinyan can’t be considered successful yet.

Yun Qiao and Song Hao, now both are trusted aides alongside Zhou Lan, others are brothers who fight tigers together, they are a couple who go into battle together.

The greatest advantage of the Yang family is that there are no scandalous affairs in the back courtyard; everyone is healthy, and even if there are small conflicts, they don’t make people uncomfortable.

Thus, the daughters-in-law and granddaughters-in-law of the Yang family lead rather satisfactory lives.

And the husbands Yang Zhenshan found for Yunyan, Yunxue, and Yun Qiao can be considered good young lords; not necessarily very rich or noble, but as long as they aren’t too demanding, they can live contentedly.

With the ability of the Yang family, finding a fairly suitable husband for Yang Wanqing isn’t difficult, but just because Yang Zhenshan promised to let Yang Wanqing find one herself, this issue has gotten stuck, making it awkward to handle.

After Ms. Wang left, Yang Zhenshan let out a long sigh, ”I must resolve this girl Wanqing’s marriage soon, if this continues, my wife will nag me to death!”

”You, you, should never have let that girl run wild in the first place!” Yu Qingyi said.

”She said she wanted to find one herself, but who knew she wouldn’t look at all!” Yang Zhenshan was also aggrieved.

Blame that girl Wanqing, back then Yang Zhenshan thought she would be very proactive about her own marriage, who knew she would not be proactive at all.

Yu Qingyi, seeing Yang Zhenshan’s aggrieved look, couldn’t hold back any longer and burst into laughter.

”I’ve never seen the Marquis look so aggrieved before! Kikiki~~”

Qingxia and Red Cloud on the side were also covering their mouths and sniggering.

Yang Zhenshan snorted, ”Tomorrow I will find a young lord and marry off this girl Wanqing!”

...

The next morning.

Yang Zhenshan rode his horse early to the Martial Arts Pavilion.

If you ask where in the Capital City you can find the most young talents, it naturally belongs to the Imperial College and the Martial Arts Pavilion.

However, the Imperial College is full of scholars whom Yang Zhenshan disdained; the young talents at the Martial Arts Pavilion, being martial artists, could barely catch his eye.

When he arrived at the Martial Arts Pavilion, he just happened to catch the disciples practicing their martial arts in the early morning, with over a thousand people practicing their skills on the drill field.

Yang Zhenshan did not give pointers to the disciples today, but roamed among them, looking left and right.

”Hmm, this one is not bad, with sword-like eyebrows and starry eyes, tall and distinguished! What’s his name?”

”This one is also good, seems to come from the household of the Marquis Hai Ning.”

”This one, no good, the Zhengyang Marquis family has a bad reputation; a whole family of profligates, unreliable!”

The disciples at the Martial Arts Pavilion felt that Lord Wu Zheng was odd today. Usually, he would come and give them pointers, but why was he just staring at everyone today?

While Yang Zhenshan was observing the disciples, Jiang He came over and asked curiously, ”Marquis, what are you looking at?”

”I’m looking for someone who is a match for my daughter Wanqing!” Yang Zhenshan casually replied.

Jiang He was stunned for a moment, then exclaimed, ”Dad is picking out a husband for Wanqing?”

His voice was not quiet, and many disciples nearby heard him.

The disciples, hearing this, all lit up.

Lord Wu Zheng is choosing a husband for his daughter?

Here comes the opportunity!

”Ha~~”

A disciple trembled with excitement, waving his long saber with extra force.

With a whoosh, another disciple flew past Yang Zhenshan with a long sword in hand, swift as an arrow.

Yet another disciple stood not far in front of Yang Zhenshan, brandishing a long spear.

In a blink of an eye, all around Yang Zhenshan and Jiang He was a whirl of blades and swords—if one didn’t know the situation, it might seem like they were being attacked by the disciples.

Yang Zhenshan glared at Jiang He, ”Keep it down!”

Jiang He, with an embarrassed face, glanced around and gave a sheepish smile.

”Dad, didn’t you say you would let Wanqing find a husband herself?” he said in a lowered voice.

Yang Zhenshan didn’t bother with him and turned to walk toward a pavilion not far off. He felt it wasn’t enough to just look at people; he also needed to check the disciples’ records.

Yes, he had just noticed a few good candidates.

However, he didn’t realize that once he left, the disciples began to discuss eagerly.

”Lord Wu Zheng is finding a husband for the lady of his house!”

”Really?”
