Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 606: Chapter 510 Elixir Refinement_2

The herbs needed for the Bone Strengthening Pill are quite common; the main ingredient is tiger bone and ginseng, while the rest are relatively common medicinal herbs.

Compared to the True Essence Pill and the Jade Bone Ice Heart Pill, making the Bone Strengthening Pill is undoubtedly much easier.

Of course, this ease is relative; in fact, the Bone Strengthening Pill is also very valuable because the ginseng required needs to be Treasure Medicine.

It is said that the Bone Strengthening Pill is useful for Body Refining Realm warriors, yet there are hardly any in that realm who can afford it.

So, the Bone Strengthening Pill is mostly used by Postnatal Martial Artists below the Fifth Layer, and even then, only those from wealthy backgrounds can afford it; without strong financial reserves, Postnatal Martial Artists wouldn’t dare splurge on such a thing.

Of course, this is not an issue for Yang Zhenshan; he has plenty of Treasure Medicine ginseng. Not to boast too much, but he could pull out two to three hundred plants if needed.

At the end of August, on a scorchingly hot day.

Yang Zhenshan squatting in the pavilion behind Marquis Mansion, sweating profusely as he tended to the medical concoction stove.

This was already the eighth pot of Bone Strengthening Pill he was preparing, all previous batches having been buried on the mountainside.

”Master, are you sure you can make Bone Strengthening Pills like this?”

Beside him, Wang Mingzhe looked at the stove with a despondent expression.

”The Elixir Recipe states precisely this: first use martial fire, then use civil fire, boiling it back and forth four times, each boil lasting no less than two quarters of an hour!” Yang Zhenshan pulled at his beard with one hand while fanning the stove with the other.

Beside him, Wang Mingzhe was waving a fan for him.

”But Master, you have already failed seven times!” Wang Mingzhe said.

Looking at the clay pot on the stove, Yang Zhenshan pondered, ”Could it be the stove that’s wrong?”

”How could it be? Isn’t this stove from the Imperial Hospital?” Wang Mingzhe really felt miserable.

Not being able to sleep on a hot summer day was one thing, but having to accompany his master and endure the heat from the stove was another.

Oh dear, Master, please torture some other disciple!

”Indeed, everything is from the Imperial Hospital, and the Imperial Physicians use these to make Elixirs. So why can’t I?”

Yang Zhenshan was baffled.

To make the Bone Strengthening Pill, he had even specifically gone to the Imperial Hospital to consult Sun Wanzhen.

There was nothing wrong with the Elixir Recipe, the equipment, or the herbs; everything was strictly according to the recipe. There shouldn’t be any mistake.

Yet why was the resulting product off?

Yang Zhenshan was truly at a loss.

Two hours later, the new batch of Bone Strengthening Pill paste was ready.

Carefully, Yang Zhenshan opened the lid of the clay pot, looking at the grey paste inside, his brow furrowed deeper.

It’s grey!

The recipe stated it should be black!

Sun Wanzhen also said it should be black.

Yet he just couldn’t produce black paste.

If the paste was wrong, surely the pills rolled from it would also be incorrect.

”Master, should we try testing if this thing has any medicinal effects?” Wang Mingzhe suggested.

”You want to try?” Yang Zhenshan gave him a sideways glance.

”Uh, Master, your disciple is still young and growing; it’s better to avoid eating random things!” Wang Mingzhe shook his head vigorously, as if it was a rattle-drum.

What a joke, medicines have toxins, especially unclear ones like this.

Yang Zhenshan stroked his beard in thought.

If it were the first time, it might have been a mishap in brewing.

If it happened twice, perhaps there was an error in the steps.

But this was the eighth time; despite having meticulously reviewed the reasons for the seven previous failures, the result was still the same.

”Go bring a goat over!”

”A goat! Alright!” Hearing that he wasn’t to test the medicine himself, Wang Mingzhe immediately scampered off to fetch one.

A moment later, Wang Mingzhe led a goat over.

Baa baa~~

Yang Zhenshan casually picked some grass, smeared some of the paste on it, and offered it to the goat.

The goat sniffed it at first, then began to eat.

After munching the grass, the goat baaed twice more, as if saying ’Old Goat Me isn’t full yet!’

Wang Mingzhe keenly watched the goat, ”Master, it seems there’s no reaction; it should be non-toxic!”

Yang Zhenshan grabbed the goat by the neck, feeling for any changes in its pulse.

After ensuring there were no issues with the sheep, he picked up the remaining ointment, dabbed a bit on his mouth.

After a meticulous taste, hmm, the flavor was a bit bitter, but also carried a faint medicinal fragrance,

After swallowing it, Yang Zhenshan keenly felt the changes in his body.

”Go fetch a Bone Strengthening Pill for your master!” Yang Zhenshan commanded.

”Okay!” Wang Mingzhe ran off in a sprint, but quickly returned just as fast.

Though he was quite plump, this youngster could really move his legs quickly.

Yang Zhenshan ingested the Bone Strengthening Pill and once again deeply felt its effects; comparing the two, Yang Zhenshan startlingly realized he had concocted Bone Strengthening Pill himself.

Although the Bone Strengthening Pill had a very mild effect on Yang Zhenshan, with his present sensitivity to bodily changes, he could distinctly feel the effects of the Bone Strengthening Pill as it entered his body.

The tiny spread of medicinal strength, ultimately integrating into the bones and flesh, soothing all the bones in his body.

”This is the Bone Strengthening Pill!” Yang Zhenshan affirmed confidently.

The elixir recipe, the herbs, the decoction process, and the effects were all correct; what else could it be if not the Bone Strengthening Pill?

The only difference was the color of the ointment that was concocted.

But why would there be a color difference in the ointment?

Yang Zhenshan thought for a moment, then instructed Wang Mingzhe, ”Go to the storeroom and bring me a ginseng Treasure Medicine!”

If there’s anything different about the Bone Strengthening Pill he crafted and the one from the Imperial Hospital, it was the Treasure Medicine ginseng.

The ginseng he used came from the Spiritual Spring Space, whereas the Imperial Hospital used ginseng that naturally grew in the forest.

Thus, Yang Zhenshan spent another two hours decocting a pot of the Bone Strengthening Pill ointment.

When he opened the pot again, he was somewhat amused.

”Master, master, it’s correct this time!” Wang Mingzhe exclaimed excitedly.

Yang Zhenshan looked dismayed, not only was this batch correct, but the previous eight times were correct too.

That is to say, he had wasted several days of effort and seven ginseng Treasure Medicines for nothing.

This was also because Yang Zhenshan lacked experience and thought there was a problem with his ointment because of a minor issue.

If it were any other doctor, even if there was a difference in the color of the ointment, they could verify whether there was a problem with the ointment based on experience or other methods.

After all, these herbs were not cheap; aside from Yang Zhenshan, few people would be willing to just discard them.

The color difference was entirely due to a significant portion of the herbs used came from the Spiritual Spring Space.

Having confirmed there was no issue with the ointment, Yang Zhenshan turned all the ointment into pills.

Each pill was the size of a fingertip, and from two pots of ointment, he rolled more than twenty Bone Strengthening Pills.

Watching each Bone Strengthening Pill being placed into a small porcelain bottle, Wang Mingzhe couldn’t resist the temptation, ”Master, could you give a few to your disciple?”

”What would you use them for?” Yang Zhenshan asked in surprise.

”Isn’t the Bone Strengthening Pill meant to strengthen muscles and bones? Isn’t it just perfect for me now?” Wang Mingzhe reasoned earnestly.

Yang Zhenshan glanced at him, ”These are of little use to you; if you want them, refine them yourself in the future!”

Does Wang Mingzhe need Bone Strengthening Pills?

Definitely not.

With Spiritual Spring Water available, what’s the use for Bone Strengthening Pills?

”But disciple doesn’t have ginseng!” Wang Mingzhe blinked.

Seeing his demeanor, Yang Zhenshan could easily guess his intentions.

”There should still be a few ginsengs in the storeroom; you can use those!”

The ginseng in the storeroom were all gifts from others; although also Treasure Medicines, their potency couldn’t compare to those grown in the space.

”Thank you, Master!” Wang Mingzhe chuckled.

Yang Zhenshan looked at him and earnestly said, ”Since you are interested in alchemy, then work on it diligently.”

In the past few days, Wang Mingzhe had been accompanying him in alchemy; although Wang Mingzhe appeared utterly bored, Yang Zhenshan could tell he was genuinely interested in alchemy.

At least while refining, the lad wasn’t secretly napping.

”Disciple hasn’t learned about pharmacology!” Wang Mingzhe scratched his head and said.

He indeed had an interest in alchemy, even greater than his interest in studying or martial arts.

”It’s not too late to start learning now. In my study, there are many medical books which you can take to read. If you truly enjoy it, I shall invite Sun, the Imperial Physician, to our home sometime to teach you!” Yang Zhenshan smiled.

Sun Wanzhen’s medical skills were naturally beyond question, not just in medicine but also in his adeptness at concocting elixirs.

In the entire Capital City, in the fields of medical skills and alchemy, probably only Granny Meng from Sanshan Valley could match him.

Naturally, Yang Zhenshan wouldn’t mind Wang Mingzhe learning medical skills or alchemy; he even wished this lad would learn more things to save him from hiding in the house and lazily sleeping all day.
