Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 497: Chapter 456 Fully Unleashing Innate True Qi

”General Zhang, it’s not that I don’t want to send these refugees to Fuzhou as soon as possible, but I really can’t do anything about it!”

”Look, these are all the constables from our county government, I have already deployed all the available ones from the county government office, including the servants from my own household!”

”Moreover, there are doctors, there are too many sick people among these refugees, we not only lack medicinal materials, but also doctors!”

”Ah...”

Zhanghe County Magistrate sighed helplessly.

He wasn’t shirking responsibility, he truly was powerless.

Although he wasn’t exactly a good official, this time the orders came simultaneously from both the Governor’s Office and the Governor’s Office, and their attitude was very firm, so he as the County Magistrate did not dare to slack off.

Especially the notice issued by the Governor’s Office clearly stated that if something went wrong, the chief officer would be dismissed on the spot.

Now, across the whole Chongshan Town, every government office is focused on the reception and resettlement of refugees, and no official dares to act in violation of the orders or behave recklessly.

To protect their official hats, and to avoid punishment, officials from all over are desperately trying to maintain order and ensure the refugee reception tasks are met.

But even a clever woman cannot cook without rice.

Zhang Chengzhi took out a telescope and looked down the official road; the long queue stretched for four or five miles, and with the current pace, it was unclear when so many people could be properly settled.

Moreover, this is just the beginning, there are still a large number of refugees rushing this way.

If these refugees cannot be quickly processed through the reception point, the number of refugees behind will keep increasing, and with more refugees, disturbances are bound to occur.

Zhang Chengzhi thought for a moment, then said to his personal followers nearby: ”You all, immediately go to the nearby garrison and have them send soldiers over to help!”

”Also, doctors, bring all the deployable doctors over here!”

”As for the medicinal materials!”

Zhang Chengzhi frowned and added, ”Send a message back, have the supplies of medicinal materials in the mansion brought over!”

Although each garrison has a reserve of medicinal materials, the stock is not substantial, hardly sufficient to support the refugees.

The Assistant General Mansion also stored some medicinal materials, but not much either; distributed to each refugee reception point, it could only serve as a temporary relief.

”General, I will place all the soldiers from the surrounding garrisons under your command, you must ensure that these refugees can pass through Zhanghe County quickly!” Zhang Chengzhi said solemnly to Zhanghe County Magistrate.

Upon hearing this, Zhanghe County Magistrate was overjoyed, ”Rest assured, General, I will do my utmost.”

...

In the General Mansion at Chongshan Pass,

Yang Zhenshan was sitting in his study, his expression also somewhat solemn.

The situation had also exceeded his expectations.

Initially, he thought that receiving the first batch of refugees in Chongshan Town would be easy, after all, Tenglong Guard had easily accommodated twenty thousand refugees previously, and now Chongshan Town was only receiving fifty to sixty thousand refugees, it shouldn’t be difficult.

But right from the start, various problems emerged at the reception points.

This was actually an oversight by Yang Zhenshan.

Firstly, the refugees moved to Tenglong Guard previously were constantly escorted by various government offices to Tenglong Guard; during the journey, most of the refugees either escaped from the custody of the government officers or died en route, only a small part reached Tenglong Guard.

Secondly, back then, Tenglong Guard was only responsible for receiving and settling the refugees; once the refugees entered the territory of Tenglong Guard, they were immediately taken away by various garrisons, each Hundred Households would arrange dozens of households, and the military households would look after each other, thus completing the resettlement.

But now, after entering Chongshan Town, the refugees still had to travel hundreds of miles north. Chongshan Town was responsible for all the food, water, and sanitation on this journey, which obviously led to many troubles.

Lastly, Yang Zhenshan had allocated a portion of Spiritual Spring Water to nearly all the refugees initially; although it was just a little, it provided those exhausted refugees a chance to recuperate.

But now, Yang Zhenshan obviously could not take care of all the refugees.

”Not right!”

”I can still take care of every single refugee!”

Yang Zhenshan suddenly thought of something.

Currently, all reception points were requesting medicinal materials, but the General Mansion’s reserve of medicinal materials was also far from sufficient.

In fact, most of the sick refugees were just tired and hungry, not seriously ill.

Just a little bit of Spiritual Spring Water could help them recover their strength.

Currently, Yang Zhenshan was unable to provide enough medicinal materials, although he had grown a lot of medicinal materials in his space, even if he took all those materials out, it would hardly make a dent.

Similarly, he also couldn’t distribute Spiritual Spring Water to each refugee; there were tens of thousands of refugees now, and soon there would be hundreds of thousands, or even millions.

Without enough medicinal materials and unable to distribute Spiritual Spring Water, his space had a lot of tea leaves, tree leaves, and a large amount of immature herbs.

These plants were all grown using Spiritual Spring Water, just like Dongling Spring, they all possess some effects of Spiritual Spring Water.

If these plants were treated as herbal medicine and brewed into a soup, with each refugee receiving a portion.

Well, the effect might be very weak, but it should significantly reduce the number of refugees falling ill.

With this thought, Yang Zhenshan spoke to his personal followers, and then directly entered the Spiritual Spring Space.

It had been half a year since his breakthrough to the Innate Realm, the originally dark land was now full of lush greenery.

And the bud of the lotus in the pond was still very small, only growing from the size of a grain to the size of a thumb. Judging by this growth rate, it might take more than ten years to bloom.

Yang Zhenshan was already unconcerned with these tender shoots.

He walked around in the Spiritual Spring Space, then began picking directly.

Tea trees, he plucked them bare, leaving only the old leaves at the bottom, plucking off all the leaves above.

Fruit trees, the newly planted ones definitely could not be touched, but the leaves of the previously planted fruit trees could be plucked entirely.

Never mind the taste of the infusion, what he needed was just the effect of the Spiritual Spring Water.

Medicinal herbs!

Hmm, would messing around create poison?

Yang Zhenshan thought for a while and eventually chose only a few common tonics, as for the rest, although he now understood a lot of medical properties, it’s still better not to experiment haphazardly.

Treasure Medicine must not be touched.

In fact, the most abundant things in the space are not fruit trees or medicinal herbs, but weeds.

Previously, because the space was too large, Yang Zhenshan could not take care of all the areas, so he decided to scatter weed seeds over the remaining plots.

Now, half of the land in the space has turned into grassland, even more lush than the prairie.

The lush weeds are mixed with various nameless small flowers.

The reason for planting such a grassland is actually that Yang Zhenshan wanted to raise horses in the space.

Yes, raising horses!

As the space would definitely grow larger, Yang Zhenshan had long planned to introduce some animals into the space.

However, Yang Zhenshan was still concerned about which animals to introduce and whether they would have a harmful impact on the entire space.

After all, the biosphere in the space is not perfect, and Yang Zhenshan must consider the sustainability and developability of the ecosystem in introducing animals.

It’s not yet time to think about these issues. Yang Zhenshan looked at the lush grassland and immediately picked up a sickle to start harvesting.

Don’t care what kind of grass it is, as long as it’s not poisonous.

Soon, Yang Zhenshan harvested a large pile of miscellaneous weeds and leaves.

Then, looking at the pile almost the size of a small hill, he slowly drew out a long knife.

”Damn, I didn’t expect my first full-on use of Innate True Qi to be on these weeds!”

The blade shone, and the True Qi surged.

The yard-long True Qi swung continuously, instantly weaving into a large net, wrapping all the weeds in it for cutting and crushing.

”Get up!”

Yang Zhenshan swung his knife horizontally, directly tossing countless weeds into the air.

Then his body started to spin, and the knife in his hand spun as well, a light pale-blue True Qi streaking through the flying weeds.

After a moment, Yang Zhenshan stopped his hand movements and leaned on his long knife, taking deep breaths.

As the weeds fell, they buried him within.

”The True Qi is still too little; I couldn’t even keep it up for a full minute!”

Yang Zhenshan shook his head, somewhat frustrated.

He stood up, grabbed a handful of shredded grass and leaves, examined them carefully, then nodded in satisfaction.

Now the leaves have all turned into the size of fingernails, with various types of leaves mixed together, making it hard to discern which plants the leaves came from.

Though roughly made and doesn’t seem like anything special, as long as it’s useful.

At this time, it’s not necessary to be too picky!

After coming out from the space, Yang Zhenshan immediately returned to the Marquis Mansion, found a rather secluded chamber, and put all the grass leaves into hemp sacks.

It was easy for him alone to fill the sacks, by reaching into them, thinking a thought and the leaves would appear in the sacks.

It took less than half an hour to fill over a hundred sacks.

Then, he called up hundreds of soldiers from the Camp responsible for city defense, ordering them to transfer all these grass leaves to the General Mansion.

”Distribute these herbs to various reception points and have them boiled into soup for the refugees to consume immediately!”

”Remember, three taels per pot, just bring it to a boil over high fire!”

Inside the General Mansion, Yang Zhenshan instructed Lu Wenhua.

Lu Wenhua opened a sack of shredded leaves, slightly stunned, ”Marquis, what is this formula?”

”Eh,” Yang Zhenshan paused in his speech, but quickly said: ”Nine Herbs Body Nourishing Formula!”

This name was made up on the spot. He first thought of the Hundred Herbs Nourishing Body Formula, as there must be leaves from over a hundred types of plants, but since he already had the Hundred Herbs Brew, he changed it to Nine Herbs.

”Marquis, aren’t the herbs supposed to be processed before use? Are these legitimate herbs?” Lu Wenhua was somewhat skeptical.

Although he didn’t understand pharmacology, he still had some basic knowledge about herbs.

Yang Zhenshan felt that Lu Wenhua was talking too much today.

These were naturally not legitimate medicinal materials!

If they were legitimate, then he would have brought people to transport them himself!

But he obviously couldn’t explain this to Lu Wenhua, only saying, ”The situation is urgent now, right? Don’t worry, this is a recipe from an old friend of mine, very effective for deficiencies in the body. Although unprocessed, it still has some effect.”

”You hurry up and distribute these materials, and I’ll have another batch prepared in a couple of days.”

Yang Zhenshan could only invent friends out of nowhere.

Lu Wenhua naturally would not inquire about Yang Zhenshan’s old friend.

He just found it strange, but hearing Yang Zhenshan’s explanation, he didn’t delve further and quickly arranged for people to transport these grass leaves to various refugee reception points.

Initially, officials and constables at various refugee reception points were also skeptical about the efficacy of these grass leaves, but since they were sent by the General Mansion and the boiling method had been specified, they could only comply.

Although the grass leaves also contained the effects of Spiritual Spring Water, they certainly couldn’t compare with real Spiritual Spring Water, and moreover, the contained Spiritual Spring Water was diluted after boiling.

The efficacy of the Spiritual Spring Water in this bowl of soup was almost imperceptibly sparse.

Nevertheless, even so, it provided a bit of nourishment to the severely depleted bodies of the refugees.

No differences appeared on the first day, but by the second day, the doctors at various reception points noticed that the number of sick refugees had significantly decreased, and by the third day, those who were still ill were mostly those who already had conditions.

The majority of refugees, despite still feeling fatigued and weak, were able to hold on.

For this reason, not a few doctors specifically studied the grass leaves.

They certainly couldn’t make any discoveries.

Most of these leaves were common weeds, with a small portion being leaves from various fruit trees and tea leaves.
