Ghost Catching System

Zhang Chengwen trembled and said, ”Divine Superior, I’m really weak. Don’t listen to Wang Ku’s nonsense. Becoming a deity is such a major responsibility—Wang Ku can handle it alone.”

Sun Yuan also shivered, snot and tears streaming, and said, ”Divine Superior, I... I have an eighty-year-old mother to care for at home, and I don’t want to become a deity. Please choose the two of them instead.”

The three young men were scared to such an extent.

Chu Hao said earnestly, ”Do you really not want the chance to become deities? It’s not something everyone gets to do.”

Screw becoming a deity!

Are *you* sure *you’re* not more of an Evil Cult than *we* are?

Killing someone just like that... isn’t that a bit too rash?

In their hearts, the three were utterly devastated. Reflecting on it now, the Ghost Dao Sect seemed simply too terrifying. What kind of ’deityship’ is this?

Chu Hao, hands behind his back, said earnestly, ”Only by following to the Underworld can one cultivate as Ghost Gods. Such opportunities are not easy to come by. You sure you don’t want to reconsider?”

Reconsider my ass!

At that moment, the old man who had fought against Ma Yi earlier said excitedly, ”Superior, I... I want to become a deity.”

Chu Hao looked at the old man, speechless. Does this old man have some kind of intellectual issue, to be conned like this?

The old man looked at Chu Hao with feverish eyes, his fervor making Chu Hao feel a chill. He said, ”Superior, please grant me deityship.”

Chu Hao felt embarrassed. It’s way too easy to brainwash people in this Ghost Dao Sect. With such a con, they still believe me. Well... it seems I have the makings of an Evil Cult Leader.

Chu Hao cleared his throat and said, ”Alright, I’ll take you.”

The old man, thrilled, walked up to Chu Hao and closed his eyes.

Chu Hao was about to strike, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it and asked, ”Have you killed anyone?”

The old man nodded and said, ”I’ve killed countless people, wiped out an entire village. I know I’m bound for Hell after death. Superior, if you could take me to the Underworld, I wouldn’t have to go to Hell. I beg for your Grace.”

Holy shit! This old man’s thinking shocked Chu Hao. The older, the craftier, indeed. Too bad I’m not actually your Ghost Dao Sect’s Divine Deity. Since you’ve killed so many, you cannot be spared.

Chu Hao smashed the old man’s head with a slap, killing him instantly after a few convulsions.

Chu Hao waved his hand and continued the big charade, saying, ”Let me tell you straight, you’ve done too much evil in the Yang Realm. After death, you’re bound for Hell. This person realized it, and he won’t go to Hell but will follow me to cultivate.”

The crowd thought it over. Is that really how it is? They felt their minds couldn’t quite grasp it. Can we really become deities?

Chu Hao spoke again, ”I admire such people. Even though there are only three spots, I’d like to take such people into deityship.”

Another person stepped forward, his hands also stained with fresh blood. He gritted his teeth and said, ”Superior, I... I’m willing to follow you.”

Haha... here comes another, Chu Hao thought.

Chu Hao looked down at him with his hands behind his back, approvingly saying, ”Hmm, you have great awareness. The future of the Ghost Dao Sect rests on your shoulders. One day, you too will be like me, assessing those who need to become deities.”

I’m way too good at this con, Chu Hao thought. Actually, there was another reason: these people had committed so many evils that they were terrified of going to Hell after death.

The old man knelt down excitedly, saying, ”Thank you, Superior, thank you.”

Another evil man ”became a deity” and was sent off. Chu Hao felt particularly pleased; these people had harmed too many.

”Superior, I’m willing to become a deity.” Yet another follower came forward, hands also covered in fresh blood.

Chu Hao, as though a Divine Deity, said, ”I bestow upon you deityship.”

And that settled another.

Mad, absolutely mad, Wang Ku thought, looking at the group of people. They’re simply too insane, aren’t they? One by one, they’re going to their deaths! Can one really become a deity?

Just then, an old man stepped forward and exclaimed excitedly, ”Divine Superior, I... I also want to become a deity.”

This old man is Wang Qi’s ’master,’ and supposedly his granddaughter is still in the hands of the Ghost Dao Sect. Why is he joining this madness too? Chu Hao mused.

Chu Hao, somewhat resigned, said, ”You cannot become a deity.”

The old man looked on the verge of collapse. Everyone else was becoming a deity, so why couldn’t he? He asked agitatedly, ”Why not?”

Chu Hao said, ”You lack the talent.”

Upon hearing this, the old man dropped to his knees and pleaded, ”Divine Superior, I... I can take my time, please let me become a deity.”

This old fellow doesn’t care about his granddaughter anymore? Chu Hao wondered.

Chu Hao said, ”Hmph! If this Sky God says you can’t, then you can’t. Get down immediately.”

The old man left, disappointed and seemingly aged a few more years. Chu Hao was speechless. My brainwashing skills are truly formidable, almost on par with a cult leader’s, he thought.

Having dealt with several who dreamt of becoming gods, Chu Hao looked towards Wang Ku and his two companions.

The three of them were scared out of their wits.

Chu Hao sighed and said, ”Since you are unwilling, I will not force you.”

The three of them were overjoyed. We don’t want to become deities at all—these old geezers are all close to death and naturally fear going to Hell!

Chu Hao continued, ”However, I still require a quota. Whichever of you kills the other two first, allowing only one to remain, I will not make that person become a deity.”

Upon hearing this, the three men were terrified. Is he ordering us to kill each other now?

Zhang Chengwen shouted, ”Wang Ku, Sun Yuan, I’m sorry.”

Zhang Chengwen was the first to make a move. A dark weapon appeared in his hand. He shot a silver needle, and the unprepared Sun Yuan was struck directly between the eyes. Sun Yuan fell with an expression of incredulity, collapsing rigidly to the ground.

Damn it! Zhang Chengwen is ruthless, striking first!

Wang Ku was startled and hastily took out a silver bell to summon the Water Drought-Demon.

Zhang Chengwen’s expression was ferocious as he yelled, ”Wang Ku, I will help you become a deity!”

Like hell you will! It’s more like *I’ll* be the one helping *you* become a deity! Wang Ku thought fiercely. He dodged the incoming silver needles and shook the silver bell.

Then, they saw a corpse burst in from outside. It was indeed the Water Drought-Demon.

Zhang Chengwen’s face turned pale with shock as he exclaimed, ”Water Drought-Demon? How... how did you find it?”

Wang Ku roared, ”Zhang Chengwen, stop struggling. I will send you to become a deity.”

The Water Drought-Demon was particularly fierce, a Water Corpse on the verge of Ghost Soldier level. How could Zhang Chengwen be its match? It pounced on him, grabbed his throat, and twisted it with a jerk, leaving Zhang Chengwen no chance to even draw his trump card.

The crowd gasped at the brutal slaughter, which happened too quickly. In less than a minute, Zhang Chengwen and Sun Yuan were dead.

Wang Ku let out a sigh of relief and showed a sign of joy, finally free from the prospect of ”becoming a deity.”

Chu Hao clapped his hands and said, ”Well done.”

Wang Ku, excited, said, ”Divine Superior, I have already sent two to become deities. The quota of three is filled.”

The crowd breathed a sigh of relief.

Chu Hao nodded and said, ”Your Water Drought-Demon does have some strength, but compared to this Divine Deity, it is still no match.”

”What the Divine Superior says is true.” Wang Ku was now very afraid that Chu Hao would make him a deity.

Chu Hao couldn’t help but sigh. I really don’t want to take off this Ghost Mask. I suspect the moment I do, this kid will break down, won’t he? But for the sake of maintaining this charade, it has to be done, even if it breaks these young ones’ hearts.

Chu Hao said, ”Wang Ku, see who this Divine Deity is!”
