Ghost Catching System

Chu Hao glanced at Horse Face; the Ox-Head and Horse-Face duo were indeed tall, their imposing height undeniably creating a strong visual impact.

With a wave of his hand, Chu Hao indifferently said, ”Since you’ve asked, this Taoist Master shall answer. I am the rising star and Demon Slayer of the Yin and Yang Realm, and Chu Hao is my name.”

The Ghost Officiants were speechless. This kid was too pretentious, especially considering he was facing Lord Horse Face.

Ox Head, his Ghost Qi flaring, bellowed, ”Ma Gaoshan and Niu Liushui, did you kill them?”

Chu Hao was taken aback for a moment. He looked at Gao Jingshou, and understanding dawned. He scoffed, ”Them? They were courting death, daring to snatch this Taoist Master’s belongings.”

Ox-Head and Horse-Face were instantly furious; this mortal was far too arrogant.

”How dare you, mortal, you!...” Horse Face was infuriated.

Chu Hao ignored him and walked towards the Baxia shell, shouting, ”This Taoist Master is giving you one more chance. Are you coming out or not?”

Then, Baxia slowly stuck his head out, looking at Chu Hao with a face full of fear.

”Taoist... Taoist Master, spare my life! Please spare me!”

Baxia was nearly frightened unconscious. That Chu Hao is too ruthless! I’m already dead, yet he pursued me all the way to the Underworld. Does he have to be so terrifying?

Ox-Head and Horse-Face, along with Black and White Impermanence, looked at Chu Hao in surprise, even shock.

Chu Hao said coldly, ”Are you planning to tattle?”

Baxia, terrified, shook his head like a pellet drum. ”No! Of course not! How would I dare to lodge a complaint against you, Taoist Master?”

”Really?” Chu Hao asked, expressionless.

”DING... Host has performed a Scary Show Off, obtaining 500 show-off points.”

Baxia, on the verge of tears, said, ”Absolutely true! Taoist Master, you are so brave and mighty! Killing me was an act of ridding the world of evil. How could I dare to accuse you?”

Ox-Head and Horse-Face were dumbfounded. Is this really Baxia? Where has the dignity of a Dragon gone?

Baxia didn’t care how Ox-Head, Horse-Face, or Black and White Impermanence viewed him. If they knew Chu Hao could summon the Great Sage Equal to Heaven as an ally, they’d be utterly dumbfounded, he thought.

Baxia calmed down slightly and asked, ”Taoist Master, have... have you come for me?”

Chu Hao glanced at the enormous creature. His neck ached just from looking up at him. ”What do you think?” he asked.

Baxia, drenched in cold sweat, wailed, ”But I... I’m already dead! What more do you want from me?”

Chu Hao spoke indifferently, ”Isn’t your soul still here?”

Damn it all! Baxia thought. That’s just too merciless, not even sparing the soul.

Truth be told, Baxia was quite pitiable. He had remained dormant for several hundred years, only to emerge and try to show off, then immediately run into Chu Hao. It was truly rotten luck.

Chu Hao decided to press his advantage and continue his act. ”This Taoist Master has observed that you’re not entirely bad and haven’t committed any truly evil deeds. Therefore... I’ve decided to give you a chance. Follow me. What do you say?”

System prompt: ”Hidden quest triggered. Subjugate Baxia to gain one million Experience Points and acquire Baxia’s physical body.”

Chu Hao was thrilled.

Haha... I’m a genius! I actually triggered a hidden quest! he exulted inwardly. Subjugating Baxia, and I even get his physical body? Does this mean I’m about to get Baxia as a mount? Awesome, bro!

Baxia was close to tears. Stay by your side! That’s even more terrifying than having my soul scattered!

”But, I’m in a hurry to be reincarnated!” Baxia said in fear.

Chu Hao glared at him. ”You’re not willing? Countless demons wish to follow this Taoist Master. You’ve seen it, haven’t you? That monkey is one who follows me. Such an opportunity isn’t available to just anyone.”

Here, Chu Hao shamelessly claimed the Great Sage Equal to Heaven was his follower.

Baxia was shocked. The Great Sage Equal to Heaven is his follower? How can I believe that? Not one bit!

Baxia was terribly hesitant.

Chu Hao waved his hand dismissively and snorted. ”Follow me, and I can even restore your physical body. So what if you’re unwilling? Forget it then. This Taoist Master will leave your body for other demons.”

With that, Chu Hao turned to leave.

”DING… Host has successfully shown off, earning 500 show-off points.”

Amazing! He can even restore physical bodies! thought the onlookers.

Ox-Head and Horse-Face, along with Black and White Impermanence, were utterly baffled and shocked. Is this for real?

Baxia was overjoyed and hurriedly chased after him, stumbling over his words. ”Taoist Master, I’m willing! You can really restore my physical body?”

”Of course,” Chu Hao said.

”Good! As long as you can revive me, I’ll do whatever you ask!” Baxia said.

”DING… Host has subdued Baxia, earning one million Experience Points.”

”DING… Host has subdued Baxia, acquiring Baxia’s physical body.”

Item: Baxia’s Physical Body (Demon of the Ghost General)

Rarity: ★★★

Ability: Body without a soul; requires the purchase of the Yin-Yang Balancing Array to resurrect Baxia.

Chu Hao checked the price of the Yin-Yang Balancing Array and immediately cursed. This thing actually costs 30,000 show-off points!

No wonder, Chu Hao thought. Baxia is a demon of Ghost General rank. If he were that easy to subdue, it would indeed be too good to be true.

Taking out a gourd, Chu Hao captured Baxia’s soul inside, then said to Black and White Impermanence, ”Gentlemen, I take my leave. I still have matters to attend to in the Yang Realm.”

It’s time to head back, Chu Hao thought. The six hours are almost up.

Ox-Head and Horse-Face were speechless. They had come to make trouble for Chu Hao, but this kid was extraordinary, even subduing Baxia. If we’re not mistaken, he killed Baxia too, they thought. This was not someone even they, Ox-Head and Horse-Face, wanted to offend.

White Impermanence chuckled, incredibly pleased to see Ox-Head and Horse-Face thwarted. Biting his tongue, making his voice sharp and high-pitched, he said, ”Brother Chu, please wait a moment!”

Chu Hao turned his head and asked, ”Brother White, is there something else?”

See? Successful posturing really made a difference. Even the way he was addressed changed, much to the envy of the assembled Ghost Officiants.

Speaking of which, Chu Hao knew he urgently needed to improve his strength. Any one of Black and White Impermanence or Ox-Head and Horse-Face could easily kill him. It was only because he’d encountered Baxia that he’d dared to show off like that; otherwise, he wouldn’t have risked it.

White Impermanence brought out a black invitation. ”Since Brother Chu is in a hurry to return, I won’t keep you. This is an invitation to the Underworld Banquet. I hope Brother Chu will come and visit the Underworld when the time comes.”

Chu Hao took the black invitation, surprised. ”Me, a mortal, attending your Underworld banquet—wouldn’t that be inappropriate?”

White Impermanence’s smile grew wider, yet somehow more unsettling. ”Not at all! With Brother Chu’s capabilities, attending this humble banquet would be effortless, wouldn’t it? Besides, there will be many entertaining things there.”

Now that’s what I like to hear, Chu Hao thought.

”Alright.”

Chu Hao put away the invitation. The date on it is still some time away, he mused. Whether I actually go or not is another question entirely.

Chu Hao formed a seal, recited an incantation, and disappeared, returning to the Yang Realm.

White Impermanence looked smugly at Ox-Head and Horse-Face. ”Aiya, still here, are we? Baxia has been claimed. There’s nothing left for you two.”

Ox-Head and Horse-Face were fuming. ”White Impermanence, what are you trying to do, inviting a mortal to the banquet?”

White Impermanence’s smile remained. ”Does it say anywhere that mortals can’t attend?”

Ox-Head and Horse-Face were left speechless and angrily departed, feeling they had thoroughly lost face over this matter.
