Ghost Catching System

Seeing Chu Hao still acting all high and mighty, Ju Desheng didn’t know what to say anymore. Too confident?

Ju Desheng said helplessly, ”You’re just a high school student. What can you do?”

After Bai Jiangming and the other two left the yard, Bai Jingyu screamed frenziedly, ”Brother, are we just going to let this slide? That brat dared to talk to us like that! And that woman—I want to chop off her hands!”

The slap from Zhang Qin’ai had filled her with a burning rage. If this were Anli City, she would have killed someone like Zhang Qin’ai long ago. It was a miracle Zhang Qin’ai was still alive.

Bai Jiangming lowered his voice. ”Don’t forget the purpose of our trip here. Brother Ku, what should we do next?”

Brother Ku, full name Wang Ku, was a member of preoccupiedGhost Dao Sect.

The influence of the Ghost Dao Sect was extremely widespread. Even some of its own members wouldn’t recognize each other when meeting and could only identify one another by secret signs.

Wang Ku’s reason for finding the Water Drought-Demon was to rescue his master, Ouyang Zhen, who was one of the Elders of the Ghost Dao Sect.

Ouyang had been captured. There were too many powerful individuals in the Seventh District. If Wang Ku could capture the Water Drought-Demon, he could use it to create something to rescue his master.

Wang Ku, with his hands behind his back, laughed. ”No rush. We’ve just entered the town. We need to observe for a bit. If I’m not mistaken, there should be a Water Drought-Demon here.”

They had learned about the Water Drought-Demon, also known as a Water Zombie, from Ju Desheng, who mentioned his old home was by the Yellow River. After making inquiries and discovering the town was rife with legends, they had come to investigate. Such a creature, a Water Drought-Demon, had to have existed in the water for many years. The siblings’ goal was to find and capture it, then take it back to Anli City where they could make a hefty sum of money.

Bai Jingyu exclaimed in surprise, ”Are there really water zombies?”

Wang Ku laughed. ”There are many unbelievable things in this world. Once you open your Heavenly Eye, you will see a door to another world.”

Bai Jiangming nodded. ”I’ll call some people to town. That kid thinks he’s so tough? I’d like to see how many he can take on.”

...

Chu Hao was unaware that the three were after the Water Drought-Demon. His group had come to the Yellow River to catch fish and shrimp.

Most people in Jiulong Town knew them and were aware that they had returned to celebrate Grandma Ji’s birthday.

”Little Maozi, you’re back,” a middle-aged man greeted.

”Yeah, Uncle.”

The townspeople were warmhearted and held a certain affection for the kids from the yard. These children had grown up without parents. More than a decade ago, when the yard’s resources were almost exhausted, the townsfolk had helped out a lot.

The Yellow River near Jiulong Town was the widest in this section. It stretched beyond sight, and it was said that the river was twenty kilometers wide from this bank to the opposite one.

Since it wasn’t the rainy season, the Yellow River was quite tranquil. Its waters were yellowish, and numerous boats could be seen fishing on the surface.

As Chu Hao and his companions were casting their nets to catch fish, a cry of alarm rang out nearby.

”It’s a water corpse!”

Fishermen in the distance were shouting, their voices trembling with obvious fear.

Everyone rushed over to take a look. Having grown up there, they had never seen a Yellow River water corpse before. Even Chu Hao was curious; he had heard about water corpses since childhood but never knew what they looked like.

In the downstream waters of the Yellow River, there was a dark mass that, at first glance, resembled a clump of hair.

Ju Desheng scoffed, ”What water corpse? It’s clearly just a clump of hair.”

Zhang Qin’ai’s voice trembled a bit. ”Look from this angle.”

The crowd shifted their perspective, and indeed, they could now make out what was beneath the mass of hair.

It was the corpse of a person dressed in white. Their hair floated on the water’s surface, making it seem as if they had died standing on tiptoe in the water, almost like a human pillar.

Amidst their amazement, everyone grew fearful. How could someone stand in the water and maintain that pose for so long?

”Holy crap! Is this... is this a Water Corpse?” Ju Desheng exclaimed, quickly taking out his phone to take pictures.

Seeing Chu Hao reaching for a bamboo pole, Zhang Qin’ai hurriedly asked, ”What are you doing?”

Without turning back, Chu Hao responded, ”Going to fish it out and take a look.”

Chu Hao was absolutely certain. That’s a Water Zombie, also known as a Water Drought-Demon. These things usually form in water over a long period. Capturing and killing it should earn me a good amount of Experience Points!

Hearing his words, everyone else shuddered and hastily tried to stop him. ”Don’t! That’s a Water Corpse! The elders say it’s best left untouched. Otherwise, if it rains tonight, it will come looking for you!”

Chu Hao, like a pig unbothered by scalding water, said, ”Come looking for me? All the better!”

The crowd clutched their heads. This kid has completely lost his mind.

The surrounding fishermen were also terrified. An old man muttered, ”Tonight, I fear it’s going to rain heavily.”

Zhang Qin’ai anxiously inquired, ”Old man, what do you mean by that?”

The old man, in his seventies with dark, weathered skin, pointed at the Water Corpse. ”This thing dares to show itself in broad daylight; something must be attracting it. If it rains heavily tonight, it will come ashore.”

”No way!” The others shivered with fear.

Chu Hao looked at the old man. ”Sir, I don’t think I’ve seen you before.”

The old man replied, ”I’m from a nearby village. You youngsters should hurry back home. During the heavy rain tonight, it’s best not to go out. Make sure your doors are securely shut.”

With that, the old man picked up his fishing basket and left, seeming to be in a rush to get back.

Zhang Qin’ai found it unbelievable. ”Are you kidding? That thing can come ashore?”

Another older boy from the yard also added, ”Yeah! The sky is clear and sunny. It doesn’t look like it’s going to rain.”

Chu Hao said, ”What the old man said is most likely true.”

He made a quick spiritual calculation. His advanced metaphysical knowledge immediately confirmed that there would indeed be a heavy downpour that night, and the rain would be very heavy.

Chu Hao had no desire to go out in the rain to catch it in the dead of night, so he picked up the bamboo pole, ready to haul it in.

Ju Desheng screamed, fell flat on his butt, and exclaimed, ”Oh my God! It... it’s gone!”

”So what if it’s gone? Why are you so scared?” Zhang Qin’ai looked over; the Water Corpse had indeed left.

Goosebumps erupted all over Ju Desheng’s body. ”No, look at the video I just recorded! Damn it! I’ve never seen anything so freaky in my entire life!”

Everyone looked at the video. On the phone’s screen, the Water Corpse slowly lifted its face. It was an extremely terrifying face, swollen from being submerged in water for too long, making it impossible to tell if it was male or female. However, its pair of stagnant, dead eyes stared straight at the phone’s camera.

”Holy shit! This thing has become a spirit! It’s actually staring at the phone recording!” Ju Desheng was terrified.

Chu Hao said resignedly, ”It seems it really will come ashore tonight.”

The others jumped in fright. Zhang Qin’ai trembled and said, ”Let’s hurry back. This is too scary!”
