Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 2029: Chapter 2028: Cooking Personally

In the days that followed, Jing Xiaocha lived a fulfilling life.

Zhang Minghui seemed to have suddenly turned into a good child, studying hard, obediently listening, and even helping out with chores as much as possible.

A few days before the school year began in September, Jing Xiaocha was busy with Zhang Minghui’s school enrollment.

Due to Zhang Minghui’s age and the current household registration restrictions for schooling, the school in their neighborhood wouldn’t accept him.

Under the scorching sun, Jing Xiaocha ran around for three days, and in the end, only a remote private school agreed to take Zhang Minghui.

Exhausted, she returned home, and as soon as she opened the door, she smelled the aroma of food in the air and heard faint sounds coming from the kitchen.

Jing Xiaocha was slightly taken aback and instinctively looked towards the direction of the balcony.

Zhang Minghui was sitting properly at the desk doing his homework, so who was making the noise in the kitchen?

Someone was cooking in her home.

“Auntie, you’re back.”

Zhang Minghui heard her and ran to Jing Xiaocha, his healthy, tanned face beaming with happiness. “Auntie, Uncle Wen is cooking in the kitchen. Go wash your hands and take a break. We’ll eat soon.”

Jing Xiaocha blinked.

She pointed to the balcony, signaling Zhang Minghui to continue with his homework.

She walked to the kitchen door and looked through the glass, just in time to see that handsome and tall figure in the kitchen.

Jing Xiaocha instinctively pressed her lips together, ignoring the chaotic heartbeat caused by Wen Jin’s presence.

This past period, she’d been busy writing articles and scripts, and Wen Jin had been busy with work and his love life. Since the night they attended a party together, she’d only seen him once in between.

She heard from Ou Yihan a few days ago that Wen Jin had gone on a business trip.

Her hands at her sides quietly clenched, and an irrepressible longing leaked from her watery eyes.

The man in the kitchen was facing away from her, expertly stir-frying. Such tasks seemed so elegant when done by him.

Wen Ran gently pushed open the kitchen door and cheerfully called out, “Brother Wen.”

Wen Jin had just plated the dish and placed the frying pan back on the stove. He turned to look at Jing Xiaocha, his gaze lingering for a second on her long-sleeved shirt. “Go wash your hands and get ready to eat.”

Jing Xiaocha responded with an ‘Okay’ and went out to call Zhang Minghui to wash his hands for dinner.

A few minutes later, the three of them sat together at the dining table.

This was the first time Wen Jin had cooked in their home, which made Jing Xiaocha feel flattered and a bit dizzy.

She couldn’t understand why Wen Jin had suddenly come to her home and cooked for them while he was supposedly in a romantic relationship with Ou Yihan.

“Brother Wen, I heard you went on a business trip a few days ago. How did it go?”

Before picking up her chopsticks, Jing Xiaocha asked with concern.

With his brows relaxed and a smile, Wen Jin nodded, “It went well. We closed a few big deals, so the next few months will be busy.”

“Congratulations, Brother Wen.”

Jing Xiaocha was happy upon hearing this.

Wen Jin gently said, “One of the clients even asked about you. It was CEO Zhang, whom you’ve met before. I told him you’ve switched to screenwriting, and your work will be on screen next year. He said he’ll definitely watch your TV show then.”

Back when Jing Xiaocha worked at Wen’s Pharmaceutical Factory, she used to go on business trips with Wen Jin.

Being remembered by a former client made Jing Xiaocha happy, but even more delightful was the pride in Wen Jin’s eyes as he spoke.

Jing Xiaocha felt that Wen Jin was proud of her achievements.

“Brother Wen, I’m not as great as you say. Now I realize that writing scripts is much harder than writing novels.”

“Having trouble?”

Wen Jin’s smile faded, and he asked with concern.

Jing Xiaocha thought for a moment and replied softly, “Because there are some specialized issues involved, it’s a bit of a headache.”

“Oh?”

Wen Jin raised his eyebrows, looking at Jing Xiaocha with a slightly raised tone.

“Your novel is set against a backdrop of medical herbs. What troubles are you having with these areas?”

“I wanted to reach out to you a few days ago, but Sister Ou said you were on a business trip, so I didn’t dare disturb you. I figured I’d ask for your guidance once you returned.”

Jing Xiaocha covered with a smile. In truth, she had been avoiding contact with Wen Jin all this time, unwilling to interrupt his romance.

With a smile, Wen Jin picked up a chicken wing and placed it in her bowl. “Well, now that I’m here, bring up all your questions after dinner. No matter how busy or tired, you can’t just live on instant noodles.”

“I…”

Jing Xiaocha instinctively tried to explain, catching Zhang Minghui’s evasive eyes from the corner of her eye. She immediately frowned, “Little Hui.”

Zhang Minghui shrank his neck, “Auntie, I didn’t mean to tell Uncle Wen.”

“Don’t blame Little Hui. Eating instant noodles all the time isn’t good for your health.”

Looking at the table full of dishes, Jing Xiaocha seemed to instantly understand why Wen Jin cooked at her home tonight, and at the same time, a wave of warmth filled her heart.

“So Brother Wen, you made such a table of dishes?”

“I wouldn’t want the screenwriter to meet their end before the drama even airs.”

Wen Jin’s words made Jing Xiaocha’s mouth twitch, and she sheepishly said, “It’s not that serious.”

“Not serious? I think you’ve lost weight since last time.”

Wen Jin gave her a once-over, and when his gaze brushed past her chest, he couldn’t help but think of that moment when he picked up her shawl outside the banquet hall.

Compared to then, her chest also seemed flatter.

This strange thought flashed through his mind, and Wen Jin instinctively furrowed his brows.

How could he have such thoughts?

“It’s because I’ve been running around trying to get Little Hui into school these days.”

Jing Xiaocha unceremoniously pushed the blame onto Little Hui’s school issues.

“Little Hui’s school?”

Wen Jin showed a hint of confusion in his brows.

Jing Xiaocha nodded, and when she thought about the matter, her delicate brows knit together unconsciously.

Wen Jin noted Jing Xiaocha’s expression and understood, “Let’s eat first, and we’ll talk more about it after dinner.”

After eating, Wen Jin had Zhang Minghui watch TV with Jing Xiaocha’s laptop while he and Jing Xiaocha sat on the couch in the living room, “First, let’s talk about Little Hui’s schooling.”

“Good schools won’t take him. Only a very distant private school is willing to admit him.”

Jing Xiaocha answered honestly.

Wen Jin pondered slightly and spoke the reason for her, “Is it because of the household registration, his family situation, and age?”

“Yes.”

“It’s inconvenient for him to attend a distant school. How about this: let him attend the same school as Ziyi. You don’t have to worry about it anymore. I’ll call Mo Xiuchen when I get home and have him handle it.”

Ziyi attends a prestigious school, and Mo Xiuchen is a major shareholder there, so as long as he says the word, Zhang Minghui attending that school won’t be a problem.

Most importantly, Zhang Minghui is gradually improving, and Wen Jin doesn’t want to see all of this progress wasted.
