Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1787: Chapter 1786: Knowing a Person, Knowing a Face

Bai Xiaoxiao hopes Madam Meng quickly finds out that she and Meng Ke have broken up.

Therefore, her words have an underlying message.

As soon as Madam Meng heard Bai Xiaoxiao’s words, her expression changed immediately, about to say something, Meng Ke spoke a second earlier, ”Mom, you should leave now.”

He gave her a look, signaling her to leave quickly.

Although Mother Bai felt a bit dissatisfied inside, she didn’t say anything and left the ward.

Once Madam Meng left, the ward was left with only Meng Ke and Bai Xiaoxiao, and the atmosphere became slightly awkward.

Bai Xiaoxiao opened the insulated box, served a bowl of porridge to Meng Ke, and said lightly, ”Shall I raise your bed a bit?”

”Sure.”

Meng Ke smiled at her.

Bai Xiaoxiao adjusted the head of the bed higher, then took a pillow and put it behind his back.

”Can you eat by yourself?”

Bai Xiaoxiao looked at Meng Ke, hesitated as she saw the bruises on his face and hands, and softly asked.

Meng Ke’s eyes flickered, ”Xiaoxiao, if I asked you to feed me, would you be willing?”

Seeming afraid she might refuse, he immediately added, ”Both of my arms are also injured, very painful.”

Bai Xiaoxiao remembered the scene during the call where those kidnappers beat him, ”How about I call a nurse to come?”

Meng Ke smiled bitterly, ”No need, I’ll eat by myself.”

He actually wanted Bai Xiaoxiao to feed him, not a nurse.

Bai Xiaoxiao smiled slightly and handed the porridge to him, ”Alright then, eat by yourself. If it really doesn’t work, I’ll call a nurse to feed you.”

”Xiaoxiao, don’t just stand there, sit and chat with me!”

Meng Ke took the bowl and pointed to the chair beside, signaling her to pull it over and sit.

Bai Xiaoxiao nodded and sat on the chair by the bed.

”Xiaoxiao, did Auntie get scared this morning, is she okay now?”

”My mom is fine now, it was just a scare, she wasn’t injured.”

”That’s good.” Meng Ke smiled and took a spoonful of porridge into his mouth.

Bai Xiaoxiao watched Meng Ke eat porridge, moments later, seemingly casually said, ”This afternoon, the police have caught those kidnappers.”

Meng Ke swallowed the porridge and asked with concern, ”So, did those kidnappers confess who instructed them to kidnap Auntie?”

Bai Xiaoxiao’s expression slightly darkened, showing a bit of anger, ”According to those kidnappers, it was Wu Jingfang who instructed them.”

Meng Ke looked puzzled at Bai Xiaoxiao, ”Xiaoxiao, who is this Wu Jingfang? Does she have some grudge with Mother Bai?”

He seemed unaware of who Wu Jingfang was.

Bai Xiaoxiao sneered, ”Wu Jingfang is Luo Haofeng’s mother, you know, he has some grudges with my mom.”

His words ’you know’ made Meng Ke’s eyes flicker.

Soon, he smiled again, ”Xiaoxiao, I know some of the grudges your mom has with Luo Haofeng’s mom, but if you don’t mention her name, I truly wouldn’t know.”

”It’s normal for you not to remember her name. Even if you know, you might not remember it.”

Honestly, Bai Xiaoxiao didn’t believe Meng Ke didn’t know Luo Haofeng’s mother’s name.

He can clearly understand the grudges between her mom and Wu Jingfang, so he definitely knows their names.

”Right, I might have heard what her name was before.”

Meng Ke said, raising a hand and patting his head in annoyance, ”My memory is getting worse.”

”You’re a patient now, don’t hit yourself silly.”

Bai Xiaoxiao jokingly stopped him.

Meng Ke also laughed, ”If I became silly, would you pretend not to know me?”

”There’s that possibility.” Bai Xiaoxiao pretended to think deeply.

”Then I mustn’t become silly; even if I did, I might still remember you.”

As Meng Ke said this, without thinking, he looked at Bai Xiaoxiao seriously.

Bai Xiaoxiao didn’t know what to say for a moment, so she said nothing.

Meng Ke chuckled again, ”I heard, back then when Mo General lost his memory, he forgot himself but still remembered Wen Ran’s phone number. Their relationship truly makes people envious.”

A knock came from outside the ward, Bai Xiaoxiao got up to open the door.

The visitor was Lu Zhiyan.

”Officer Lu, why are you here?”

Lu Zhiyan glanced inside the ward, smilingly said, ”The interrogation is concluded, as Boss Meng is the victim, I came to inform him.”

”Please come in.”

Bai Xiaoxiao invited Lu Zhiyan into the ward.

Meng Ke quickly put down his bowl and greeted Lu Zhiyan, ”Officer Lu, please sit.”

”Boss Meng, you’re having dinner, am I interrupting?”

Lu Zhiyan came to the bedside but didn’t intend to sit, standing there instead.

Meng Ke chuckled, ”Not at all, not at all.”

”That’s good, I’ll leave after speaking.” Bai Xiaoxiao motioned Lu Zhiyan to sit down before speaking, Lu Zhiyan thanked her and sat courteously.

”Boss Meng, here’s the thing, this afternoon we already caught those kidnappers, and they confessed.”

Lu Zhiyan spoke formally to Meng Ke.

Meng Ke smiled and said, ”Xiaoxiao just told me, heard those thugs confessed the mastermind, truly hard work for Officer Lu.”

”Yes, they’ve confessed the mastermind.”

”Has the suspect been caught?” Meng Ke glanced at Bai Xiaoxiao beside him, then calmly asked.

Lu Zhiyan smiled, ”Not yet momentarily, there are still some loopholes, we need further investigation, but Boss Meng can rest assured to recover.”

”Didn’t they already confess, why further investigate? Is the mastermind not the person the kidnappers confessed to?”

Meng Ke looked puzzled at Lu Zhiyan, firing several questions.

”Once the case is solved, I’ll let Boss Meng know.”

Lu Zhiyan cryptically responded.

Meng Ke didn’t intend to press further, chatted a few more words, and Lu Zhiyan stood up to leave.

**

That night, Mother Bai came to Bai Xiaoxiao’s room.

”Xiaoxiao, what you spoke about this afternoon, is it true?”

Even now, Mother Bai couldn’t believe she might have misjudged.

Bai Xiaoxiao reached out and held Mother Bai’s hand, ”Mom, with this important matter, how could I deceive you?”

”Lu Zhiyan has already sent people to investigate, believe that in a few days there’ll be an answer.”

Mother Bai frowned, ”If Meng Ke really is such a person, that’s too frightening, these past two years, whenever you’re not home, he’s often come to see your father and me, I’ve always thought he’s reliable.”

”Mom, you can’t judge a person by their appearance, actually there’s something I didn’t tell you this afternoon.”

Bai Xiaoxiao hesitated, Mother Bai’s look urged her to continue.

Bai Xiaoxiao softly said, ”Last time when I brought up the breakup with Meng Ke, he was entirely different from his usual gentle self.”
