Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1764: Chapter 1763: Amicable Parting

The winter night’s deep chill is especially piercing.

Without stars and moon, the sky is ink-black, with only the cold wind wantonly blowing the roadside tree branches to sway.

Just like the night Bai Xiaoxiao had dinner at Xiao Yuting’s house, from afar, she saw the vehicle parked across the street from her home.

Meng Ke was wearing a dark coat, lazily leaning against the car body.

When the distant headlights approached, he gently raised his wrist, recognized Bai Xiaoxiao’s car, and a smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

If Meng Ke wasn’t standing outside the car, Bai Xiaoxiao planned to pretend she hadn’t seen him.

But a living person standing there made it impossible for her to feign ignorance.

She parked the car at the door.

Watching Meng Ke cross the road and come to her car window.

”Xiaoxiao, I called you after returning this afternoon, why didn’t you answer?”

Through the lowered car window, Meng Ke looked at Bai Xiaoxiao inside, who was particularly beautiful because of the company annual event tonight.

A hint of marvel flashed in his eyes, and the way he looked at her, even in this cold winter night, carried a trace of heat.

Inside the car was warm, Bai Xiaoxiao wasn’t wearing a coat, still donned the gown from the banquet, with her black hair elegantly tied up, revealing a delicate and beautiful jade necklace on her fair neck.

And her earrings matched it.

Already born beautiful, her meticulous adornment made her stunning to the eye.

Sensing the change in Meng Ke’s gaze, Bai Xiaoxiao subconsciously frowned, she didn’t like Meng Ke looking at her this way.

The window was only halfway down, she couldn’t close it now.

”Xiaoxiao, let’s find a place to sit, I have something to tell you.”

Meng Ke saw her frown and immediately restrained some of the heat in his gaze, speaking with a smile.

”It’s very late tonight, I’m a bit tired, let’s do it tomorrow.”

Bai Xiaoxiao lowered her eyes, looking at the steering wheel.

”I brought some gifts for you and your parents, since you don’t want to go out and sit, let me take them inside and say hello to your parents.”

Meng Ke said, turning to go back to the car to get the gifts.

”Meng Ke.”

Bai Xiaoxiao’s expression slightly changed, calling out to Meng Ke.

Meng Ke turned back with a smile, looking at her.

The harmless appearance made Bai Xiaoxiao’s mood gloomy.

She and he had already broken up, it was impossible for him to go to her house and bring gifts.

Accepting gifts ties to obligations, eating from someone’s hand incurs favor.

Bai Xiaoxiao didn’t want her mother to change her mind because of Meng Ke’s gifts.

After hesitating for a few seconds, she spoke in a slightly indifferent tone, ”Whatever you want to say, say it in the car.”

Since that night at Yi Pin Xuan when Meng Ke forcibly kissed her, Bai Xiaoxiao didn’t want to go anywhere alone with him.

This was her doorstep, and in her car, she felt Meng Ke wouldn’t do anything excessive again.

Meng Ke’s eyes flickered, he replied, ’Okay,’ walked around the car body, and sat in the passenger seat.

Getting into the car, Meng Ke could see more clearly Bai Xiaoxiao’s gown and the graceful figure wrapped underneath.

He took off his coat, placed it on the seat, turned slightly, his gaze intense as he looked at Bai Xiaoxiao, ”Xiaoxiao, I missed you a lot during these days abroad.”

”Was your business trip smooth this time?”

Bai Xiaoxiao glanced at him and then diverted her gaze.

She merely asked casually, yet Meng Ke immediately showed an indescribable delight at being cared for, ”Hmm, there were issues at first, but overall it went relatively smoothly.”

”I heard Xu Wanqi went on the trip with you?”

Bai Xiaoxiao’s lips curved into a faint smile, though the smile didn’t reach her eyes.

Meng Ke’s eyes flickered slightly, instead of answering he asked, ”Xiaoxiao, who told you that?”

”Xu Wanfei, she told me Xu Wanqi went on the trip with you and said the one you truly like is Xu Wanqi. Actually, there was no need for her to say that, because we have already broken up now.”

Bai Xiaoxiao’s last sentence made Meng Ke’s smile helplessly fade.

”Xiaoxiao, I did take Xu Wanqi along on the trip, but it was due to work requirements. If you would like to listen, I can tell you all the details of this trip.”

Meng Ke frowned, his tone carrying the sadness of being wronged.

Bai Xiaoxiao laughed serenely, ”Meng Ke, we should part amicably; even without Xu Wanqi, we wouldn’t be able to marry.”

”Why impossible, you previously said we just needed to understand each other, Xiaoxiao, I’m willing to wait for you, but you can’t deny me even the opportunity to know you better.”

Meng Ke’s tone was urgent, speaking as he reached out to hold Bai Xiaoxiao’s hand.

Bai Xiaoxiao instinctively avoided, Meng Ke’s hand grasped the steering wheel which bore Bai Xiaoxiao’s warmth from holding it all along.

Meng Ke’s expression changed slightly, his grip on the wheel tightened.

Bai Xiaoxiao’s expression was somewhat cold, since she had proposed breaking up, she didn’t want any physical contact with Meng Ke.

”Meng Ke, it’s not that I haven’t tried, but trying was ineffective for me. I don’t want to delay you anymore, nor do I wish to make things hard for myself.”

”Xiaoxiao, I haven’t felt delayed by you, if there’s anything you think I did wrong, you can tell me, I’ll change.”

”No, you’re fine, it’s just that I can’t force myself.”

Bai Xiaoxiao said up to here, and raised her gaze to meet Meng Ke’s eyes, ”You know, love can’t be forced.”

”Does your mother know you’re breaking up with me?”

Meng Ke asked stiffly, as though each word required immense effort to utter.

Bai Xiaoxiao nodded, ”I’ve already talked to my parents, I am an adult, capable of making my own decisions about my relationships. Thank you for caring about me these past two years.”

Meng Ke’s hand slowly withdrew from the steering wheel.

Looking at Bai Xiaoxiao, with an expression of many emotions, as if struggling painfully.

After a brief silence, his voice echoed with a hint of weariness and fatigue in the car, ”Xiaoxiao, the words I said last time at Yi Pin Xuan were a moment of impulse, if I scared you, I apologize here.”

”...”

Bai Xiaoxiao blinked blankly, not speaking.

She didn’t understand what Meng Ke meant, whether he agreed or disagreed to the breakup.

Meng Ke chuckled bitterly, then continued, ”When I confessed to you initially, I said no matter who the person in your heart is, I wouldn’t care, as long as I can be by your side and be good to you.”

”...”

”But now, it seems, I no longer have that chance. Xiaoxiao, I truly love you, no less than anyone else’s love for you. I know, after breaking up with me, you’re sure to be with Luo Haofeng.”

”Don’t worry, I won’t disrupt you two, nor force you anymore. I just want to give you time to see if it works with Luo Haofeng. No matter when, just look back, and I’ll be waiting where I’ve always been.”

”Xiaoxiao, can I hold you one last time?”

The final sentence was spoken with sincerity and sadness in Meng Ke’s voice.
