Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1758: Chapter 1757: Xiaoxiao, I Miss You

The next day, Luo Haofeng arrived at the hospital where Qi Meiling was staying.

In the ward, Qi Meiling was eating while a nurse aide attended to her.

Seeing Luo Haofeng enter, the nurse aide widened her eyes in surprise. It was known that over the past two years, Luo Haofeng’s fame in City B was on par with that of Mo Xiuchen in G City.

”Luo... President Luo...”

Hearing the nurse aide’s stuttering, Luo Haofeng waved her off lightly, ”You may leave. I want to have a few words with Meiling.”

Qi Meiling swallowed the apple in her mouth and used a toothpick to pick up another piece from the fruit plate, as if she hadn’t seen Luo Haofeng.

A sharp glint flashed through Luo Haofeng’s narrow eyes briefly as he took long strides to the bedside, pulled out a chair, and sat down, watching Qi Meiling focused on eating her apple.

”Meiling, don’t eat too many apples at once, it’s too cold.”

Although it hadn’t rained or snowed these past two days, the winter weather was exceptionally cold.

Qi Meiling, who had been asleep for so long and just woke up, needed to be cautious about what she ate.

”Do you still care about me?”

Qi Meiling’s expression stiffened at Luo Haofeng’s words.

Her hand holding the toothpick trembled, and she slowly lifted her bowed head. Her once bright eyes were now dull and lifeless.

Her voice no longer held its past liveliness or arrogance, instead it carried a sense of sorrow and sadness.

This Qi Meiling seemed unfamiliar to Luo Haofeng.

He frowned slightly, a sigh slipping from his lips.

Qi Meiling blinked her eyes, and the sadness in them didn’t dissipate from the sight of Luo Haofeng; instead, the longer she looked, the deeper the sorrow washed over her.

A man she had loved for years — while she was in a coma, not only did he and his family ignore her, they even suppressed her family, leading to her company’s bankruptcy and her father and brother’s downfall.

Yet, she couldn’t bring herself to hate him.

Instead, she woke up asking about him.

”Meiling, back then you wanted to marry me. I told you I didn’t have romantic feelings for you, but I was willing to treat you as a lifelong friend, or as a sister.”

”Yes!”

Qi Meiling’s eyes brimmed with moisture, tears quivering on her eyelashes.

”When I had the car accident, you must have been very happy, Brother Haofeng. Why didn’t you just let me die then?”

”...”

Luo Haofeng didn’t answer.

The silence was more hurtful.

Qi Meiling laughed mournfully, ”Brother Haofeng, I heard you have a new girlfriend. You don’t need to visit me at the hospital anymore. My dad and brother told me everything that happened in the past two years.”

At this, she paused, pressing her lips tightly as if in a difficult struggle, speaking again with a choked, cold voice, ”You should leave, don’t let my dad and brother see you.”

”Meiling, since I’m here to see you, I don’t fear Uncle Qi and your brother seeing me.”

Luo Haofeng leaned forward, took a tissue from the table by the bed, and handed it to her, ”You’re still a bit weak. You need more rest, don’t rush to leave the hospital.”

”My dad and brother don’t have the money for me to stay hospitalized.”

”Didn’t Uncle Qi tell you that it’s been me covering your hospital expenses all this time?”

Luo Haofeng’s words left Qi Meiling wide-eyed with astonishment.

”Is what you’re saying true?”

But her father said that since she fell into a coma and entered the hospital, Luo Haofeng not only ignored her but also forced her father to agree to annul their engagement.

Even going so far as to ruin her family in such a cruel manner.

Qi Meiling hesitated, unsure if she should believe Luo Haofeng.

Having been awake for so many days, Luo Haofeng hadn’t come to see her once. She could only believe what her father said.

Luo Haofeng smiled self-deprecatingly, ”Perhaps Uncle Qi was doing it for your own good. He hopes you can move on quickly, Meiling. You are a great, talented girl, and you will definitely meet a man who loves you.”

”Are you afraid I’ll cling to you again?”

Qi Meiling’s smile was mournful, ”Rest assured, I no longer have the right to cling to you.”

Qi Meiling used to be arrogant and reckless, even resorting to threats to marry Luo Haofeng, but that was because she had the means to do so.

She believed that only she was worthy of Luo Haofeng.

Moreover, Mother Luo liked her and strongly pushed for her to be with Luo Haofeng, fulfilling her wishes.

Things are different now. Qi Family is in decline, and Mother Luo no longer sees her as a potential daughter-in-law. She’s aware of this more than anyone.

She knows she’ll never be with Luo Haofeng in this lifetime.

After being in a coma for over two years, her perspective on life has changed. She’s essentially reborn, given another life by the heavens, and she can’t meekly live or die for a man anymore.

”Meiling, when it comes to feelings, there’s no such thing as rights. If you want, we can still be friends. You can reach out to me if you ever need anything.”

”Is your current girlfriend pretty?”

”Haha!”

”Brother Haofeng, can you bring your girlfriend to visit me next time?”

”Sure.”

Qi Meiling finally smiled, not the mournful smile from before, but one that seemed relieved.

”Brother Haofeng, if I said I’ve let go of you, that would be a lie. But living a second life, I’ll try not to irritate you like I did in the past. I want to stay for a little longer here, can you help me with that?”

Qi Meiling had initially agreed to be discharged.

But now, she suddenly didn’t want to leave.

Once she leaves the hospital, her father and brother wouldn’t allow her to see Luo Haofeng again. Staying here ensures Luo Haofeng will visit her again.

”Okay, I’ll tell the doctor in a moment.”

”Thank you, Brother Haofeng.”

Qi Meiling thanked him with a smile.

After leaving the ward, Luo Haofeng went to find her attending doctor to understand her condition.

Leaving the hospital, Luo Haofeng’s lips curled into a relaxed smile.

This visit to Qi Meiling had been without hope. Unexpectedly, the feeling Qi Meiling gave him had changed quite a bit.

Once he got into the car, he didn’t start the engine immediately but took out his phone to dial Bai Xiaoxiao’s number.

For some reason, he suddenly wanted to hear Xiaoxiao’s voice very much.

Qi Meiling said she’d start anew and wouldn’t be the same...

He truly hoped Qi Meiling could move on and find happiness.

The phone rang several times before it was answered, and the voice he longed for entered his ear, like a soft hand gently brushing against his heart, softening it in an instant, ”Hello!”

”Xiaoxiao, it’s so nice to hear your voice.”

Words slipped from Luo Haofeng’s lips involuntarily, even he found it surprising.

On the other end, Bai Xiaoxiao was stunned by his words for a few seconds before asking with concern and worry, ”What happened? Did something happen?”

The warm current flooding his heart warmed up the winter day, Luo Haofeng’s lips curved up, his voice clear and happy, ”No, Xiaoxiao, I just missed you.”
