Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 809: When my female companion

Gu Kai glared at her, pulled her in front of the sofa, and turned around to pour her a glass of water before sitting down next to her.

“Ranran, you seem to have lost weight. Didn’t you eat well in City C, or did Ah Mu mistreat you?”

After looking Wen Ran over carefully, Gu Kai frowned with concern.

“What does Qin Mu have to do with this? I ate well and slept well in City C. You’re overthinking it. I feel like I not only didn’t lose weight, I even gained some.”

Wen Ran replied with a smile, “Originally, I wanted Qin Mu to come back for a thorough check-up, but he had to go on a business trip at the last minute and couldn’t make it. Brother, could you give Qin Mu a call later and ask him to come back for a check-up?”

“No problem. Aunt Qin visited G City a few days ago, did she call you?” Gu Kai lounged back in the sofa, laying an arm casually over the top, embodying an indolent comfort.

...
Wen Ran was slightly surprised and stared at Gu Kai’s smiling face. “Aunt Qin came to G City? She didn’t come to see Qin Mu, did she? Oh dear, she called me last time, and I told her Qin Mu was doing very well, but well, that was half a month ago. When did she come?”

“A week ago, I guess.” Gu Kai replied cheerfully, “I told her that Ah Mu had gone to work in Haochen, and you were there too. I thought she would call you.”

“But she didn’t.” Wen Ran blinked in confusion. Surely Aunt Qin must have realized she was lying last time. She didn’t call her, but she should have called Qin Mu. However, Wen Ran hadn’t heard Qin Mu mention it.

Gu Kai patted her shoulder. “It’s okay. I told Aunt Qin that Ah Mu is already well. As long as he doesn’t work too hard, it should be fine. He couldn’t possibly be on rest for three to five months; that would bore him to death.”

Wen Ran and Gu Kai chatted for a while. He went to make his rounds, and she went to the director’s office to find Gu Yan. After spending an hour at Kangning Hospital, she went to the cemetery to visit the parents who raised her, her biological mother, and Mo Xiuchen’s mother.

By the time she arrived at Wen’s Pharmaceutical Factory, it was almost five o’clock.

Wen Jin came back from the lab, pushed open the door to his office, and immediately saw the woman sitting behind his desk. His face lit up with joy at the sight of her beaming eyes. He strode into the office. “Ranran, when did you get here?”

“About ten minutes ago. Brother, I was about to fall asleep waiting for you.”

Wen Ran stood up and walked out.

Wen Jin called his secretary to make a pot of flower tea. Once the two of them were seated on the sofa, he asked, “Ranran, why didn’t you call us when you came back?”

“I didn’t want you all to come pick me up, making a big fuss about it.” Wen Ran pouted, and Wen Jin smiled indulgently. “Are you going to stay at home this time? I’ll call Auntie Li to buy some of your favorite food.”

As he spoke, he reached for his phone, but Wen Ran hurriedly stopped him. “Brother, there’s no need.”

Wen Jin looked at her puzzled. “What, you’re not coming home? Could it be that Ah Kai doesn’t want you to come back?”

“No, brother, it’s like this…”

Wen Ran explained the situation about Mo Xiuchen transferring the villa to her, and after hearing it, Wen Jin was somewhat startled but agreed with Mo Xiuchen’s suggestion. “Ranran, since Mo Xiuchen transferred the villa to you, then you should live there. He’s right, although it’s his home, with no memory, it’s meaningless.”

Wen Jin paused and then added, “Mo Xiuchen fired Cheng Jia. Although he hasn’t regained his memories, he’s remained chaste and hasn’t been ambiguously involved with any woman. Ranran, even if you’re determined not to be with him, there’s no need to avoid him. Just treat him like an old friend.”

“Okay, I know, brother.”

Wen Ran answered softly. As long as Mo Xiuchen didn’t pressure her, she wouldn’t avoid him.

Perhaps it was selfish of her to feel this way, but she did not want to become a complete stranger to Mo Xiuchen, someone who might as well be dead to her. Especially since, just now in the graveyard, she had received a call from Mo Zixuan.

Mo Zixuan told her over the phone that he had revealed everything to Mo Xiuchen, including that recording, and Mo Xiuchen now knew why she had been avoiding him.

After hearing what Mo Zixuan said, Wen Ran was shocked.

Although she knew that Mo Xiuchen would eventually uncover the truth, it had happened so quickly.

And now that he knew the truth, he wasn’t behaving like he had before; she was moved yet also felt pained for him.

Moved by Mo Xiuchen’s understanding of her and pained by his sacrifices.

The sudden ringing of her cellphone interrupted the conversation with her brother. Wen Ran took out her phone and a complex expression flickered in her eyes when she saw the incoming call—it was from Mo Xiuchen.

“Ranran, you take the call. I’ll step out for a bit,” Wen Jin said after seeing the caller ID on her phone screen. She conscientiously stood up, smiled, and reminded Wen Ran before leaving the office.

Wen Ran composed herself and pressed the answer button, speaking in a calm and gentle voice, “Hello?”

“Ranran, are you awake yet?”

On the phone, Mo Xiuchen’s voice came through, deep and magnetic with a touch of tenderness. It was apparent he was in a good mood.

Wen Ran gave a light laugh and replied, “I’m not a pig; how could I sleep all afternoon? I’m at my brother’s right now.”

“Hehe, that’s true. I was afraid I’d wake you up, so I hesitated to call,” Mo Xiuchen laughed over the phone, his deep chuckle resonating through the line and filling Wen Ran’s ears. She couldn’t help but visualize his noble and handsome features as if he wasn’t just laughing over the phone, but right beside her.

“Aren’t you busy with work?”

Wen Ran ignored the flutter in her heart stirred by his laughter and asked as if it were an afterthought.

“I’ve just finished up. I thought you should be awake by now, so I decided to give you a call. Ranran, could you do me a favor?”

“What favor?”

Wen Ran asked, puzzled.

“I have to attend a banquet tonight and I don’t have a female companion. I’d like to invite you to be my date. You’re at your brother’s place, right? I’ll come and pick you up.”

This didn’t sound like asking for a favor; it was more like a notification!

Wen Ran frowned slightly, instinctively objecting, “That… you could ask your secretary to be your date…”

“Ranran, you know I don’t like having the opposite sex too close to me, and my current secretary is a married woman in her thirties. It wouldn’t be appropriate for her to act as my date. Just tell me where you are, and I’ll come to pick you up.”

Mo Xiuchen cut Wen Ran off before she could finish speaking. His words were so logical that she couldn’t refuse, and sensing her reluctance, he added, “Ranran, don’t worry. I’m simply asking you to be my date, nothing more. If anyone asks, I’ll just tell them we’re already divorced.”

“You don’t need to come pick me up. Just tell me the time and place, I’ll go home to change first; I can’t go like this.”
