In the back seat of the business vehicle, Cheng Jia’s hand was still on her forehead, her brows were tightly knitted due to distress, and a foreign heat within her body was spreading intermittently. Her dizziness was gradually intensifying.

She was slow to react and did not understand what was happening even as the vehicle got on the road.

How come MO Xiuchen, who was just sitting in the back earlier, suddenly decided to drive the vehicle himself, allowing his driver to sit in the back?

She stared intently at MO Xiuchen who was sitting in the driver’s seat, focusing on the road ahead. His thin lips were tightly pressed, his jawline was resolute, and an aura emanating from him strangely made people feel cold.

Why did he suddenly get angry and decided to drive himself? Cheng Jia could not understand at the moment. All she knew was that she felt increasingly uncomfortable; the way she looked at MO Xiuchen was becoming more fervent, her words even carried an unusual heat compared to her normal days: “Young Master MO, I’m feeling dizzy.”

MO Xiuchen did not turn around and only glanced at her from the rearview mirror. The calmness in his deep eyes crossed with a swift sharp light and he casually asked, “Why the sudden dizziness? It’s not like you’ve drunk any alcohol tonight.’

Cheng Jia, feeling unwell, shook her head, looking at him earnestly. “I also don’t know; I’m just feeling light-headed and hot.”

“Open the car windows then!”

MO Xiuchen said indifferently, not particularly concerned about her discomfort.

“Miss Cheng, why is your face so red?”

Little Liu could see Cheng Jia’s face in the car light and was astounded the next second and cried out with a startled tone.

“I don’t know. I just feel unwell. Young Master MO, I won’t be going to the cemetery tonight. Could you take me home?”

Cheng Jia was feeling hotter, and as her logic gradually dissipated, her heart was filled with more confusion. Since MO Xiuchen also drank the soup, why was he not affected?

“Alright then, since you’re feeling unwell, we might as well take you home first.

Where do you live?”

As Cheng Jia gave her home address, her voice was soft and seductive, making people’s minds swirl. Little Liu seated next to her trembled a bit and involuntarily moved away, pressing himself against the car door.

At half-past nine, Wen Jin started urging Wen Ran to go home.

While Wen Ran wanted to stay and keep him company a little while longer, she did not want to disturb his rest. She left a message to his special nursing assistant, picked up the insulated food container and left.

Just as she walked out of the ward, she saw Gu Kai coming down the corridor. He had already changed out of his white lab coat and underneath his brown woolen sweater was a white dress shirt. He looked casual yet elegant. When he saw her, he paused in the corridor, standing tall and radiating a brilliant smile. He cheerfully asked:

“Wen Ran, are you preparing to go home?”

Wen Ran smiled and nodded. “Has Older Brother Gu not gotten off work yet?”

Gu Kai spread his hands out, grinning handsome, “How could I still be on duty dressed like this? I’ve finished my shift. I came over specifically to see you.”

“Ah? To see me? Is there something you need?”

“Let’s talk while we walk.”

Finished speaking, Gu Kai turned around and walked over to the elevator, pressing the button. Only then did he ask Wen Ran beside him, “Did you not turn on your phone?”

Wen Ran’s eyes flashed as she pulled out her phone to check. She replied, “I may have shut it off by accident; I wasn’t aware.”

Gu Kai paused his gaze on her face before the elevator door opened. He signaled for her to enter the elevator first. Following behind Wen Ran, he closed the elevator door and only then did he continue the conversation, “Since your phone was off, MO Xiuchen called me instead. He’s currently on the way to the hospital and should be here soon.”

Wen Ran looked at Gu Kai in surprise, asking somewhat incredulously, “But isn’t he supposed to be visiting his mother’s grave? Why is he coming to the hospital?”

With her hand inside her bag, she discreetly gripped her phone. She was feeling a little low on her way to the hospital tonight, so she turned off her phone, and had not turned it on the entire evening.

“I suppose Cheng Jia felt dizzy and unwell on the way to the graveyard, so he and Little Liu took her home. When he was talking to me on the phone, he was preparing to come to the hospital. He wanted me to let you know and to wait for him at the hospital.”

The slight furrow on Wen Ran’s forehead appeared at this piece of news, and she remained silent.

The ‘ding’ sound signified the arrival of the elevator on the first floor.

Exiting the elevator, Gu Kai suggested generously, “Since it’s your first time at MO Xiuchen’s home tonight, you mustn’t have eaten well. I know of a good barbecue place nearby. How about we grab some barbecue while waiting for him? What do you think?”

“Sure, but I insist on treating you this time. I want to thank you, Older Brother Gu, for taking care of my brother.”

Wen Ran said smilingly. Gu Kai had been of great help during her brother’s hospitalization period. Her brother would be needing his assistance in the future as well. Treating him to a meal now was an insignificant matter to her.

Unfazed, Gu Kai laughed, “Alright, you’re on.”

In the restaurant, the waiter had just served the barbecued food when Gu Kai’s cellphone rang.

He took out his phone and smiled at Wen Ran, “It’s MO Xiuchen calling.”

He pressed the speakerphone button, then said ‘hello’ into the phone, and MO

Xiuchen’s deep voice came through, “Ah Kai, have you seen Wen Ran?” Gu Kai looked at Wen Ran and replied casually, “Yes, I have. Where are you

“I’m at the hospital entrance. Ask her to come down!”

“We’re at the barbecue place at the corner of the street. You come over.”

Gu Kai passed a skewer of barbecued meat to Wen Ran and grabbed another for himself. Over the phone, MO Xiuchen heard the sound of him munching on the meat, fell silent for a moment, and eventually agreed to come over to get them.

It did not take MO Xiuchen long to arrive, his tall figure appeared in the barbecue restaurant within minutes. He scanned the dining area and then headed towards Gu Kai and Wen Ran.

Wen Ran continued to eat her barbecue without looking up even though she detected his approach. On the contrary, Gu Kai looked at MO Xiuchen approaching and asked with curiosity, “Why are your clothes wet? There’s a patch on your pants too. What have you been up to?”

MO Xiuchen shot him a look. His deep gaze focused on Wen Ran who was engrossed in eating. Seeing the enjoyment on her face, he lightly smirked and reached for a napkin from the box on the table. He reached over to wipe her mouth and said, “Eat slowly. You’ve got it all over your mouth.”

Wen Ran’s hand holding the skewer trembled as she instinctively tried to dodge him but MO Xiuchen was quicker. His other hand grabbed her head and dominantly cleaned her mouth before releasing her. He chuckled and said, “Give me a skewer too.”

Flustered due to his string of actions, Wen Ran of course did not hand him a skewer. Gu Kai laughed, picked up a vegetable skewer and handed it to him, teasing him, ‘MO Xiuchen, we are in a public place, tone it down. Wen Ran isn’t as thick-skinned as you.”

“You can leave first. I’ll settle the bill later.”

Typical MO Xiuchen, once he got what he wanted, he couldn’t care less about the rest. He bluntly hinted for Gu Kai to leave.

Gu Kai shot him a look of disdain and called over a waiter languidly, “Get another round of what we just had, to go!”
