Wen Ran’s eyes widened in shock, unable to describe the astonishment and emotions she was feeling inside.

Nanny Zhang sighed softly, after so many years, she could hardly believe when recalling the scene when her mistress jumped off the building, “Indeed, the mistress jumped off the building on the young master’s birthday and he witnessed it with his own eyes.”

Wen Ran visualized MO Xiuchen’s handsome face and her brows furrowed unwillingly. She could hardly imagine how cruel it must have been for an eight-year-old boy to see his mother jumping off a building.

“Has he celebrated his birthdays these years?”

Wen Ran was suddenly unsure whether the dishes she prepared for MO Xiuchen’s birthday would make him happy. Perhaps for him, every birthday is a cruel memory.

“For the first three years, the young master was unable to accept it. Since the year he was kidnapped at the age of eleven and miraculously survived, he became a different person, seemingly at peace with the departure of the mistress. At least, none of us could see his sadness.”

Nanny Zhang and her husband had spent most of their lives working for the MO family. They watched MO Xiuchen grow up and knew better than anyone the hardship and injuries he had experienced.

Wen Ran moistened her lips and silently turned her head back to continue frying the fish, her mind unable to calm down immediately.

Wen Ran cooked three dishes, and Nanny Zhang made soup. It was just after ten o’clock.

Because of the matters Nanny Zhang mentioned, Wen Ran changed her mind about waiting for MO Xiuchen to come back for dinner and wanted to take the food she cooked to his company instead.

Nanny Zhang supported her decision wholeheartedly. She cheerfully packed the food into the thermal lunch box and also cooked two servings of soup and rice. She reminded her son Little Liu to drive carefully.

“Young Mistress, the young master will surely be delighted to eat the food you’ve prepared.”

On the road, Little Liu turned his head and said cheerfully to Wen Ran.

Before knowing that MO Xiuchen’s birthday and his mother’s death were on the same day, Wen Ran was full of confidence. She thought he would definitely be happy, and so she prepared a surprise for him secretly.

But after hearing what Nanny Zhang said, her heart felt heavy and suffocated. Hearing Little Liu’s words, she gave a faint smile and said: “I hope so.”

Little Liu spoke with great certainty: “The young master will indeed be very happy. Ever since you moved in, young mistress, the young master is no longer as cold as before and he even smiles.”

Wen Ran blinked in surprise. She did not notice what Little Liu had said about herself, but when he mentioned it now, she remembered the cold and ruthless demeanor MO Xiuchen had set when he asked her if she was willing to marry him in return for his help in saving Wen’s Pharmaceutical Factory.

Even on the day of their marriage registration, he was indifferent.

But these days, he seemed to be less cold and even laughed occasionally. The worst part was that his smile was so mesmerizing that she was left stunned several times.

Upon reaching MS Group, Wen Ran let Little Liu go back first and went into the company herself with the thermal lunch box.

She didn’t call MO Xiuchen before she came. As Wen Ran approached the reception, she thought she would be stopped but unexpectedly, the receptionist recognized her and greeted her warmly, saying that MO Xiuchen had instructed not to stop her whenever she came looking for him.

Wen Ran said ‘thank you’ to the receptionist and went to MO Xiuchen’s office. As she was about to knock on the door, she paused because of the voices coming from inside..
