Wen Ran couldn’t put the feeling in her heart into words, her tear-filled eyes brimming with joy and excitement as she stared unblinkingly at the man in the hospital bed.

This was her brother, he was really awake!

Although he couldn’t be discharged right away and even needed rehabilitation, it would be at least two or three months before he could be discharged. But he had opened his eyes, and he had called her with a hoarse voice she hardly recognized.

His slightly vacant gaze lingered on her for a moment, slowly focusing, taking her in, and his first words were, “Ranran, I’m glad you’re safe!”

Tears poured out of Wen Ran’s eyes as his words filled her heart.

With tears clouding her eyes, she called out joyfully over and over again, “Brother, Brother…”

Gu Kai pulled MO Xiuchen out of the ward. Before leaving, he reminded Wen Ran not to tire Wen Jin out. He had just awakened and needed to rest well, and they would arrange for another check-up and start rehabilitation plan tomorrow.

“Silly girl, don’t cry anymore.”

Wen Jin looked at Wen Ran, who was crying at the bedside, with hurt in his eyes. Each time she cried, his heart felt like it was being harshly gripped by an invisible hand.

With tears still wet on her face, Wen Ran chuckled and, “Brother, I’m happy. I’ve been looking forward to you waking up every day, and now my wish is finally fulfilled.”

Having been in a coma for over half a month, Wen Jin’s cognitive response was slower than usual. He slowly curled his lips into a fond smile, his words filled with regret and self-blame, “Ranran, I’m sorry. I’ve caused you to worry.”

Wen Ran shook her head, speaking hurriedly, “Don’t apologize, brother. If you hadn’t been protecting me at the time, you wouldn’t be like this. I’ve been so upset these past few days, wishing it were me in this bed, and you were fine.”

“Don’t ever say that.”

She was silenced by a large hand covering her mouth, although Wen Jin’s movements were slow, but as she was leaning over the bed, his hand quickly covered her mouth as soon as the words left her lips.

Outside the ward, MO Xiuchen watched the scene unfold through the transparent glass, his handsome eyebrow involuntarily knitted together.

From the moment he suspected that Wen Ran was not the daughter of the Wen Family, each time he saw her treat Wen Jin with such care and affection, he found himself feeling strangely suffocated.

Gu Kai, who was also watching the scene in the ward, felt a tinge of envy flashing in his dark eyes. Unlike MO Xiuchen’s discomfort, his lips curled into a small smile, he nudged MO Xiuchen, who was radiating a cold aura, softly asking, “I’m heading back to the office. Do you want to come with me?”

MO Xiuchen gazed intently at the ward, answering absentmindedly, “You go first!”

Gu Kai shrugged his shoulders and said, ‘Okay,’ then turned on his heel and strode away.

Outside the ward, MO Xiuchen pulled out his phone and dialed Wen Ran’s number.

Just as Wen Jin gently wiped Wen Ran’s tears inside, the peaceful atmosphere was interrupted by the ringing of the phone.

Wen Ran paused, giving Wen Jin a forced smile, she said, “Bro, I need to answer this call.”

Wen Jin nodded, removing his hand from her face and placing it on the blanket, his midnight dark eyes locked on her. Although he hadn’t been able to talk or move these past few days, he had heard everything Ranran had said.

He even heard the conversation that included an unfamiliar male voice talking about Ranran sacrificing her happiness for the company…

Thinking about this, his heart ached again, his handsome face becoming even more pale than usual.

When Wen Ran looked at the caller ID on her phone, her eyes changed slightly. She stood up from the bedside, turned around, and only pressed the answer button after securely facing away from the bed, speaking in a quiet voice, “Hello

“Come out!”

Upon hearing these words, Wen Ran’s gaze turned towards the door, she furrowed her brows slightly and said, “Can we talk about this later?”

“Five minutes!”

The person outside the ward finished speaking and, as usual, hung up the phone.

“Ranran, I’m a bit tired, I want to sleep for a bit more.”

A layer of weariness crept onto Wen Jin’s brows, his voice gentle and slow, sounding truly tired.

Wen Ran’s eyes flashed with suspicion, but when she remembered Gu Kai’s instructions, she smiled and replied softly, “Okay, brother, sleep for a while. I’ll go home and make some soup and bring it to you later.”

“You know how to make soup?”

Wen Jin looked at Wen Ran curiously. If he remembered correctly, he heard her saying she learned how to cook while he was unconscious.

His gaze drifted towards her hands. Wen Ran laughed and boldly extended her hand towards him, pointing to the red dots on the back of her hand caused by oil splatters and said, “Brother, these are proof that I’ve been learning how to cook. I’ve learned to cook a few dishes these past few days. Since you can’t eat them right now, I’ll just make soup for you. Let me show you how my cooking skills have improved.”

“Alright, go home now. I really need to sleep a bit more.”

Wen Jin looked tired, and after speaking, closed his eyes for real.

Wen Ran pulled the blanket up for him, then gazed at his handsome face for a few seconds, a joyful smile appearing on her face, before finally leaving the ward.

In the hallway, MO Xiuchen’s tall and upright figure was cloaked in the dim light, his defined features hard and serious because of his solemnity.

The moment Wen Ran stepped out of the ward, his deep eyes locked onto her delicate face. The image of another man wiping her tears, his gaze full of affection and care, was burned into his memory.

“I misjudged you just now. I’m sorry!”

When Wen Ran came to him, she tilted her face up to look in his deep eyes and openly admitted her mistake.

Subconsciously, she also felt the fact that her brother had awakened so quickly was related to what he had said.

Perhaps, like he said, her brother was aware of her predicament, knew the truth, so he didn’t continue to sleep. The moment he felt saddened and anxious, he woke up.

MO Xiuchen’s eyes flickered slightly, his thin lips were tight and his expression was still cold, giving no indication of being willing to forgive her easily.

Wen Ran lightly bit her lip and said again, “MO Xiuchen, I was too impulsive earlier. You are magnanimous, don’t take my words to heart. I’ll cook sweet and sour ribs for you as a compensation in the future, is that okay?”

Towards the end, she chuckled, her tone playful as if coaxing a child.

MO Xiuchen furrowed his brows in irritation and demanded in a low voice, “Since your brother woke up, will you still be coming to the MO family for dinner with me tonight?”

Wen Ran was taken aback.

She was so haDDV her brother woke up. If MO Xiuchen hadn’t reminded her, she might have completely forgotten about their dinner plan.

However, her brother had just woken up, and she had promised to make him soup.

Seeing her hesitation and struggle, MO Xiuchen felt a cold chill spreading across his face, reminding her harshly, “Wen Ran, don’t forget what you promised me in the beginning!”

“I didn’t forget.”

Wen Ran’s face slightly changed. Looking at MO Xiuchen’s icy expression, her voice turned a bit rigid..
