Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 198: Chapter 166: Rising Phase: 02

Chen Fusi said: ”Then let’s meet tonight, I’ll book a place and send you the location.”

Zhou Yun replied agreed.

The next day, Zhou Lan picked up Zhou Yun and they went to the company together.

”Chen Fusi? Hasn’t it been a long time since he last asked you out? Why has he appeared again?” Zhou Lan asked in surprise.

Zhou Yun said, ”He went abroad previously, and we lost contact. He said he just returned to the country.”

”Just returned and he’s asking to meet up with you? He seems really persistent about you,” Zhou Lan teased.

Zhou Yun replied, ”We’ve only met a few times. Saying he’s persistent is an overstatement.”

”But it’s a fact that he likes you.”

Zhou Yun emphasized, ”I’ve made it very clear that I’ve rejected him.”

”Yet he still insists on asking you out.”

Zhou Lan’s words reminded Zhou Yun. In fact, she should reject Chen Fusi even more decisively. Why didn’t she? It’s mainly because she couldn’t bring herself to do it.

”Actually, it’s not impossible to be friends.”

”That’s provided he only wants to be friends with you as well.”

”Sister Lan, what exactly are you trying to say?” Zhou Lan seemed a bit too fixated on Chen Fusi, unlike her usual self who would not cling to one topic.

”I’m just reminding you, neither you nor he are ordinary people. Apart from people being nosy, even a normal act can lead to rumors of inappropriate relationships, especially since he has feelings for you,” Zhou Lan said. ”Gossip usually hurts women more than men. Many female celebrities carry scars of old scandalous news that may or may not be true, but it doesn’t sound good when mentioned. You are a rising celebrity with many eyes on you, especially—don’t forget, you recently offended Lew Qingqing and Su Yan together, and she has been waiting to get back at you. If someone captures a photo that can be misconstrued, she could use money to fuel the internet trolls to mount a huge smear campaign against you, slandering you as a gold-digger or involved in scandalous relationships, turning white into black which is always easier than turning black into white.”

Zhou Lan was indeed worried about this.

”I’ll be cautious,” Zhou Yun sighed, ”I will also reduce meeting him outside from now on.”

Zhou Lan stared at Zhou Yun in shock, ”What do you mean? You intend to meet him indoors more frequently instead?”

Zhou Yun helplessly said, ”That’s not what I meant!”

Zhou Lan was just making a startled joke and wasn’t serious.

She knows Zhou Yun isn’t that kind of person.

If she were, with Zhou Yun’s looks, she would have had plenty of opportunities knocking at her door already.

The earlier difficulties were precisely because Zhou Yun never took shortcuts, right?

”Ah, we’ve arrived,” Zhou Yun said, seeing the entrance of the underground parking lot ahead.

”You haven’t been to the company for a while, right?” Zhou Lan said, ”It seems like it has been a while since before you started filming.”

”There’s no time, I’ve been extremely busy every day, having to make money and seize every opportunity,” Zhou Yun said. ”I feel like I’m fighting relentlessly.”

”It’s good to have this kind of awareness, being tired when you’re young will let you relax more later,” Zhou Lan said.

Zhou Lan always had a basket full of such cliché sayings.

But Zhou Yun liked hearing these clichés from Zhou Lan because after meeting many people, she realized not everyone is willing to say these things.

Like He Yong.

He came to greet Zhou Yun enthusiastically, immediately saying loudly, ”You finally finished filming, our Xiao Yun has worked hard! How was your rest yesterday? Good or not? Should I book a resort for you to rest well for a few days?”

Zhou Yun was speechlessly choked up.

He Yong’s enthusiasm did not dim, and his shameless flattery came out as soon as he opened his mouth, ”I heard your performance in ’Heart Inquiry’ is exceptionally good, the director said you might win the award for Best Supporting Actress with this role! Don’t worry, I’ve already spoken to the headquarters, once the show is aired, we will definitely campaign for you to win the award!”

Zhou Yun no longer wanted to act in front of a crowd with He Yong.

”President He, let’s go to your office instead and not disturb everyone’s work.”

Entering He Yong’s office, He Yong’s attitude was still very enthusiastic, almost to the point of bootlicking.

Zhou Yun thought to herself that even though Chengqian Entertainment was in a special situation, He Yong didn’t have to go this far.

The new contract prepared for Zhou Yun was in He Yong’s drawer.

He Yong took out the contract, placed it on the coffee table, opened the pen cap, and placed it next to him, his tone solicitous, ”Xiao Yun, take a look, this is the new contract we prepared, all according to our last discussion, full of sincerity.”

Zhou Yun picked up the contract, glanced from beginning to end, not missing a single word, and after reviewing it herself, handed it to Zhou Lan for another check.

After confirming there were no mistakes, Zhou Yun signed her name on all three copies.

This was the first order of business she had come to do at the company today.

But there was another more important matter.

”President He, I was interested in a movie before, and I heard you were reluctant to let me take the role, may I ask why?”

Zhou Yun raised her head, and to this day, she could put on an indifferent face at any time, using the most casual demeanor to exert a sense of threat and pressure.

He Yong did not expect Zhou Yun to suddenly bring this up.

He thought this issue had already been resolved.

He Yong looked at Zhou Lan in surprise, remembering that he had long told Zhou Lan to appease Zhou Yun.

Zhou Yun spoke again, ”President He, stop looking at Sister Lan, she doesn’t call the shots on this matter.”

He Yong grinned awkwardly, raising his hand to wipe his forehead as though there was sweat, which in reality, there wasn’t.

”This matter was mainly discussed in a meeting by everyone in the company. Given your current momentum and the many projects coming to you, every project selection must be extremely cautious. You know how precious prime time is. If one project is wrongly chosen, not only is it a waste of time, but if the outcome is too poor, it could even affect your reputation. Many actors have had to pause their careers for a year or two because of one bad film. If this were a better production team’s movie, I would have let you take the role with no second thoughts. Filming movies can enhance an actor’s profile, I understand that. But this is a novice director, our company isn’t focused on arthouse films, we evaluated it, and it’s hard to say if it could even be released, and if released, it’s likely to flop. By then, you would have to shoulder the impact of a failed movie.”

Honestly, Zhou Yun didn’t expect He Yong to give such reasons.

Moreover, in a sense, what he said was not unreasonable.
