Chapter 2087: Chapter 2085: Wanting Second Brother to Be Clan Leader

Bai Ruozhu took a couple of steps, then suddenly turned back, ”Didn’t you say you were from the Fen Family? Why don’t you care about their life or death?”

As soon as she finished speaking, she was stunned, as her sudden turn just allowed her to see the sadness in his eyes, a profound sadness that suffocated, as if he had experienced long-lasting pain. Suddenly she too felt unable to breathe, could it be that Fen Cheng had some unspeakable secrets?

”Fen Family members are not so easy to kill, otherwise they wouldn’t be worthy of the surname ’Fen.’” Fen Jizhi immediately tucked away all his weakness, reverting to the calm and indifferent man.

Bai Ruozhu was originally a bit angry, but at this moment, she couldn’t muster her anger.

She took a breath, ”You’re not from around here, right? How long have you been here? Do you miss your family?”

Fen Cheng’s expression softened a bit, ”No.”

Isn’t that reply too simple? Bai Ruozhu initially felt a bit sympathetic towards him, but seeing his cold indifference, she felt she was being nosy again, so she nodded to him and turned to leave.

She now confirmed, if Jiuli faced trouble, Fen Cheng would not appear to help.

In the following two days, Bai Ruozhu went to help the great elder with his treatment, and his internal injuries stabilized.

This day, after applying the Needle to the great elder, while she was packing up to leave, the great elder suddenly called her.

”Stay and chat with this old man.” The great elder’s voice was very tired.

Bai Ruozhu glanced at him, ”We’re not familiar, there’s nothing to chat about.”

The great elder smiled bitterly, ”It’s right for you to hate me.”

”As long as you understand. Although I promised to save you, it doesn’t mean I’ve forgiven you.” Bai Ruozhu said coldly.

”When I’m underground, I’ll personally apologize to Wei Yu.” The great elder said, coughing a few times, making his gaze even more desolate, ”It’s soon time to re-elect the clan leader. Jiuli hasn’t elected a clan leader for years, what do you think of your second brother?”

”No way!” Bai Ruozhu said decisively, ”We aren’t true Jiuli members, and my second brother doesn’t even know the rules of Jiuli, how can he win everyone’s support? Besides, we favor Elder Su, he’s upright and fair, more suitable than the second elder to manage the Jiuli Clan.”

”It’s a pity he hasn’t been to the Enlightenment Tablet.” The great elder said, then gave Bai Ruozhu a meaningful look, ”Do you know why I’m asking for your opinion?”

Bai Ruozhu paused, vaguely feeling it related to the trial center.

”You’re one of the few who’ve been to the trial center and later, the Purple Light came out, showing you’ve reached the central position, so your opinion is important.” The great elder said unhurriedly.

Bai Ruozhu’s heart was in turmoil, could the great elder know something?

”Wasn’t it said that Fen Jizhi also entered the trial center last year? I was just lucky, nothing worth mentioning.” She calmed down, pretending not to know anything.

”I will ask his opinion too, but yours is more important, it’s the rule passed down through Jiuli generations.” The great elder’s expression became solemn.

Bai Ruozhu’s heart skipped a beat; she vaguely felt the Jiuli Clan was not entirely unaware of the secret, very likely the clan’s core leader or elders knew, but they concealed the secret, hence this rule passed down.

She didn’t know if the great elder knows the specific details. She didn’t dare test it lightly, she wouldn’t forget Fen Cheng’s threat from the other day, the man looked casually indifferent, but he was extremely serious and ruthless then, she wouldn’t risk her or her family’s lives.

”My opinion is to choose Elder Su as the clan leader, he’s much more suitable than my second brother.” Bai Ruozhu stated.

The great elder smiled, ”But your second brother came out from the Enlightenment Tablet, and he will be part of the Wei Hall. With his achievements in the trial, he ranks highly in the Wei Hall, even the barrier maintenance needs him; if he becomes clan leader, who would not be convinced? I think Elder Su and the third elder are willing to assist him.”

”No way!” Bai Ruozhu almost shouted, ”My second brother has his own life, he can’t be trapped here. And what is Wei Hall? Why didn’t you mention it at the start?”

She was somewhat annoyed, if going to the Enlightenment Tablet means joining Wei Hall, she wouldn’t advise her second brother to go and wouldn’t urge her second brother to try hard.

The great elder wasn’t angry, calmly saying, ”Wei Hall is Jiuli Clan’s secret organization, very few know about it, and it’s not allowed to be mentioned openly. You haven’t participated in trials, no one is allowed to bring it up to you. Even your grandmother and aunt may not know about Wei Hall, but Wei Hall also represents the clan’s most important status.”

”My second brother won’t agree, you might as well save your effort. We have a wider world, we won’t stay in a small Valley like Jiuli Clan. You’re afraid of danger, so you shrink back here, but we aren’t native Jiuli people, there’s no reason to stay here for you.” Bai Ruozhu was a bit angry, she had to discuss this with her second brother, she feared if she refused the great elder, he might act on his own. That old man seemed like someone who loved to decide everything.

After speaking she didn’t bother talking nonsense with the great elder, turned and left the great elder’s Diaojiao Building, rushing back home.

She found her second brother, recounting the conversation with the great elder, Si Yihuan was also present, listening worriedly.

”What if they try to keep husband forcibly? If something happens here, would the barrier need husband to stabilize it?” Si Yihuan asked, bitter-faced, she was with Bai Zepei, but also missed her parents and family from her mother’s side.

”Don’t worry, I won’t agree. Nowadays, no one can force us.” Bai Zepei said confidently.

Bai Ruozhu showed a guilty expression, ”Second brother, it’s my fault for not understanding the situation earlier, I shouldn’t have advised you to perform well at the Enlightenment Tablet.”

Bai Zepei laughed, ”I don’t regret it at all. You always protected the family, protected your second brother. Last time you had a conflict with Fo Lanying for me, second brother felt too cowardly, just hoped one day to share the burden, also hoped I could protect you as your brother, rather than always hiding behind you. Finally, I have this ability now, so going to the Enlightenment Tablet was worth it, second brother doesn’t regret it.”

He also understood some things, resolved his own inner conflict.

”Even if there are some troubles, and a certain price to pay, it’s worth it.” Bai Zepei said seriously.

”Second brother...” Bai Ruozhu’s eyes felt warm, she was happy for her brother’s strength, yet didn’t expect her brother always had such inner conflict.

Good thing this trip was worthwhile.

Bai Zepei affectionately patted her head, just like when they were kids, smiled and said, ”Alright, don’t think too much. Second brother has his own plans, no one can detain us.”

Si Yihuan also laughed, ”Rely on you two, I don’t want to keep eating here, there are still lots of delicacies outside waiting for me to savor them.”
