Chapter 2083: Chapter 2081: To Save or Not to Save

Bai Ruozhu looked at Fo Lanying again, ”Saying I harmed you? Do you remember who first chased my second brother, wanting to fight him just because he was eligible for the Enlightenment Tablet? If he didn’t compete, you wanted him to kneel and apologize. Such rules are simply laughable.”

”We came here not wanting to make enemies with anyone, especially not to trouble my grandmother. But while we don’t seek trouble, we’re not afraid of it either. Being bullied by you, insulted, and poisoned – if we don’t dare to resist, we might as well not live in this world.” she continued.

Every member of the Jiuli Clan has their pride and a bit of a fighting spirit, so several elders nodded quietly. What reason is there to not fight back if bullied? If Bai Ruozhu and her people really were like that, even if she manifested the Purple Light in her trial, the clan wouldn’t recognize her as having Jiuli bloodline.

Bai Zepei stepped forward, staring at Fo Lanying and said, ”Didn’t you want to compete with me? Now you can’t even withstand one of my moves, so do you still want to compete?”

Fo Lanying said unwillingly, ”You just had the advantage of going to the Enlightenment Tablet. If I had gotten in, I would surely be no worse than you.”

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”Too bad you can’t get in.”

”Girl from the Fo family, we didn’t agree to let you go to the Enlightenment Tablet not to make things difficult for you but because we feared that your Divine Sense is insufficient, which might lead to your death inside,” the Tenth Elder sighed and admonished sincerely, ”Going to the Enlightenment Tablet has specific requirements. Although you excel among your peers, you’re still a bit away from those requirements. Forcing your way in is a path to death, and we don’t want to see you die or come out incapacitated.”

Fo Lanying looked to the second elder. Her grandpa had never said this before, often complaining that some elders were deliberately making things difficult for them.

The second elder signaled to Fo Lanying; there were some things he couldn’t say in public. He knew his granddaughter’s Divine Sense was lacking, but he was aware of a method to temporarily boost it. When the time came, would Fo Lanying still fear failing the Enlightenment Tablet trial?

Of course, such a method was classified as a Forbidden Technique, so he couldn’t reveal it or convince the other elders.

”Could it be that the second elder plans to use some Forbidden Technique to temporarily enhance her Divine Sense, so she can pass the Enlightenment Tablet trial?” Bai Zepei mocked, ”Every Forbidden Technique causes harm. Even if she passes the trial and gains immense benefits, her health would be compromised, making a good end difficult to achieve.”

”Second elder, is that what you’re planning?” The Tenth Elder, well-versed in those Curse Techniques and forbidden practices, asked knowingly.

”Does it even need questioning? Otherwise, why is he pushing his granddaughter to the Enlightenment Tablet? If she can pass the trial and become part of it, who can stop him from claiming the great elder’s position?” Elder Su said bluntly.

”Fo Hui, it never occurred to me you’d sacrifice your granddaughter for power.” The Third Elder said disdainfully.

Suddenly, a figure rushed over, grasping the second elder’s arm with a face of terror, ”Father, is what they’re saying true? Is that really your plan?”

The one asking was Fo Wen, who looked disheveled and mentally unwell at the moment.

”Nonsense, they’re slandering me! Why are you getting caught up in it?” The second elder shook off his son’s hand.

Fo Wen seemed to regain some confidence. Yes, his father wouldn’t do such a thing. Lan Ying was his only child; how could he bear it?

Bai Ruozhu sneered, ”You say we’re slandering you, so explain why, knowing Fo Lanying’s Divine Sense is insufficient, you still want her to go to the Enlightenment Tablet? As a loving grandparent, wouldn’t you advise against letting her throw her life away?”

Fo Lanying collapsed on the ground, looking up at her most respected grandfather, hoping it wasn’t as everyone said. She couldn’t believe he would treat her that way.

The second elder’s eyes darted around, feeling deeply anxious inside. It was said that Bai Zepei’s strategy was near-demonic, yet he actually guessed it.

”I have protection techniques to safeguard Lan Ying’s Divine Sense, ensuring that even if she fails the Enlightenment Tablet trial, she will remain unharmed, so I wanted to give the child a chance,” the second elder said, smiling kindly at Fo Lanying.

”Grandfather...” Fo Lanying had guilt in her eyes. How could she doubt him just now? He cared for her the most.

”Then let everyone see it, to broaden our horizons.” Bai Ruozhu said with a mischievous smile.

The second elder’s face darkened, ”Why should I show you my treasures? You’re all aggressively questioning me; are you not trying to steal them?”

His eloquence is truly remarkable!

Elder Su showed disdain, not believing the second elder’s words at all.

Just as he was about to speak, someone hurried in from outside, anxious, ”Reporting to the elders, Du Fei is nowhere to be found in the clan. We just discovered that the barrier was opened privately, likely allowing Du Fei to escape the clan!”

All the elders changed their expressions; it wasn’t Du Fei’s escape that made them nervous but the fact that no individual in the Jiuli Clan can open the barrier. Even when young ones go out for training, the great elder opens the barrier for them.

”Go check on the great elder.” Elder Su hastily ordered.

”I came here to report urgently and have already sent someone there,” the messenger replied.

No one could continue arguing with the second elder as they rushed out of the Fo Family. Not far off, Fen Jiu hurried over, ”The great elder was ambushed; gravely injured and unconscious, he’s barely alive!”

”What? Hurry and see!” The third elder rushed forward upon hearing, but Bai Ruozhu slowed her steps.

Should she save the great elder if she goes over?

If Elder Su requested, she might have no choice. But if she saved him, she couldn’t live with herself.

If the great elder hadn’t impulsively ambushed Wei Yu back then, her aunt and Lanlan wouldn’t have experienced such tragedy. How could she possibly save someone who caused harm to her aunt and cousin?

Bai Zepei also stopped, patting Bai Ruozhu’s shoulder, ”Let’s go and see. If Aunt asks you to save him, then save him.”

”Second brother...” Bai Ruozhu pouted, feeling sad for her aunt. Even if Aunt gave the order, it was for the greater good of the clan, yet it felt painful.

”Think of it differently. Without the great elder’s action, Gufeng would eventually have taken over Wei Yu. He would have had ample time to cause more harm, perhaps even to Aunt and many innocents,” Bai Zepei reasoned slowly.

Having walked the Path of Wisdom, he now saw things more broadly and deeply, even understanding the great elder’s actions from back then somewhat.

Though he could never agree with the great elder concealing the truth later on, which is forever a blot on his record.

Bai Ruozhu took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, ”Alright, let’s go and have a look.”
