Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2080: Chapter 2078: Night Visit to the Xin Family

”Huh?” Bai Yihong reacted a bit slowly, still not getting his daughter’s meaning.

Bai Ruozhu smiled and pulled her father back into the room, saying, ”Anyway, don’t worry about it, just keep my mother company and chat with her.”

”You little girl,” Bai Yihong laughed.

Bai Ruozhu smiled and returned to her room. Soon, she heard something hit her window from outside. Her mouth twitched slightly, this was Fen Jizhi’s way of notification?

She opened the window, and another stone came flying. She reached out to catch it and then saw Fen Jizhi standing in the distance.

He made a gesture to her, ”Let’s go.”

She jumped out the window and followed him into the darkness.

”Everyone went to sleep late today. Aren’t you afraid of being seen?” Bai Ruozhu asked in a whisper.

”With my strength, unless it’s a few elders, it’s not so easy for others to discover me, right?” Fen Jizhi said.

Bai Ruozhu still felt uneasy. She reached into her sleeve, and with a thought, took out two pieces of black cloth from her space, casually handing one to him.

”Better to cover our faces to avoid any unforeseen complications,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Fen Jizhi did not insist otherwise and took the black cloth to cover his face, then looked at Bai Ruozhu and said, ”Fortunately, you wore Jiuli clothes today.”

”When in Rome,” Bai Ruozhu replied simply.

”You’ve already figured it out, haven’t you?” He once again brought up the topic.

Bai Ruozhu’s body tensed up, ”Figured out what? Xin Sheng’s matter?”

”There’s no need to play dumb. I was also threatened by the voice inside not to speak out. You’ve been to the central area and achieved better results than I have. There’s no way you don’t know about that secret,” Fen Jizhi said.

Bai Ruozhu confirmed from this that he knew about it too and didn’t bother to feign ignorance, ”How did they threaten you?”

It seemed that Fen Jizhi hadn’t seen people from Fengcheng.

”I thought I was strong enough after improving my abilities, yet that person only had to use a little pressure to push me to the ground, unable to move.” Fen Jizhi gritted his teeth; this matter was definitely the biggest shame of his life. He was unwilling to be oppressed like this, but the other side was too strong.

”I realized then that in front of that person, I was merely like an ant. He said if I spoke too much, not only I, but also my family and clansmen would face a catastrophe.” A hint of fear appeared in Fen Jizhi’s eyes, ”He must be from that side. If one person on that side is so powerful, what about a whole clan? Does the Jiuli Clan really seem like ants in their eyes?”

”I am unwilling, but I know I’m not their match right now. When I truly become strong, I will definitely seek justice for my clan!”

Bai Ruozhu opened her mouth, wanting to dissuade him from being impulsive, but who could stop the young samurai from seeking death? This was the passion and pursuit of youth. If such determination was lost, his eyes would also lose their luster, fading into mediocrity henceforth.

”I know you won’t be as agitated as I am and won’t think of seeking justice from those people. I didn’t intend to ask for your help either. It’s just that I’ve been holding this inside for too long, feeling terribly uncomfortable, and finally, someone knows the same secret as I do.” He smiled bitterly.

He had entered the trial center last year, and this year’s trial had already passed. That meant he had kept these words in his heart for more than a year!

Bai Ruozhu understood his feelings at this moment. She was also very shocked when she found out, but she hadn’t grown up in the Jiuli Clan and didn’t have such deep feelings or sense of honor for Jiuli. Fen Jizhi was different, so his emotions were more complex.

”You are steadier than I imagined,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Fen Jizhi smiled bitterly, ”I have no choice but to be steady. You’ve also experienced that person’s strength, right?”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”How are you sure he’s a single person and not just a divine thought or something else from the trial center?”

”Intuition.”

As they spoke, they had already reached near Xin Sheng’s house, and the conversation stopped.

Fen Jizhi made a gesture, led Bai Ruozhu around to the back of the house, and peeked in through the window crevice.

At this moment, Xin Sheng hadn’t slept yet and was holding a spiritual tablet, wiping it gently. Bai Ruozhu squinted her eyes to see, and it was inscribed with ”My Son Xin Si.”

Usually, it’s the descendants who set up spiritual tablets for deceased elders, so how could a father set up one for his son? It’s said this would shorten the living person’s lifespan. Yet Xin Sheng persisted in setting up a spiritual tablet for his son, showing how much he cared for him.

The spiritual tablet was very clean, spotless, but Xin Sheng still wiped it gently, as if he were caressing his sleeping son’s head.

”Sisi, it’s father’s fault for not avenging you.” Xin Sheng muttered, ending with a sob, as he hugged his son’s spiritual tablet and began to cry.

Bai Ruozhu found it very strange, ”Not avenging you,” could it be that he helped the second elder poison her family to avenge his son?

Wasn’t his son accidentally killed during a training expedition? How could this be related to her family?

Could it be grievances from her grandmother’s generation? She should ask about it properly tomorrow morning.

Fen Jizhi, next to her, furrowed his brows, also noticing the problem in Xin Sheng’s words.

Xin Sheng cried holding the spiritual tablet for a while before putting it back, then he sat there in a daze.

Fen Jizhi thought for a while, gestured to Bai Ruozhu to wait here.

He then circled to the front, removed the face veil, and knocked on Xin Sheng’s door.

”Who is it?” Xin Sheng wiped his eyes and got up to answer the door.

”Uncle Xin, it’s me, Jizhi.” Fen Jizhi answered from outside.

Xin Sheng went over to open the door and invited Fen Jizhi into the small room.

”What brings you here so late, is there something you need?” Xin Sheng asked.

”No, we had a celebration banquet for the Bai siblings today. I drank a few more cups, came back a bit late, and happened to see your light still on while passing by, so I wanted to check on you.” Fen Jizhi said with a smile.

Xin Sheng poured him a cup of tea, speaking kindly, ”Young people should drink less, drinking too much is harmful.”

”Yes, I won’t drink as much next time.” Fen Jizhi responded promptly, took a sip of tea, and said, ”Uncle Xin, I heard the Bai siblings say you poisoned them. This must be a misunderstanding; don’t take it to heart.”

”How could I hold a grudge against those youngsters, and besides, they are guests. I have to give face to the third elder, don’t I?” Xin Sheng said cheerfully, ”I just don’t know how I offended them.”

Fen Jizhi’s eyes flickered. Previously, when someone caused trouble for Xin Sheng, his attitude wasn’t like this. Although he wasn’t speaking ill of the Bai siblings, there was a trace of rejection in his words, indicating he was very displeased with Bai Ruozhu siblings.

No, considering his understanding of Xin Sheng, if it was merely dislike, it wouldn’t lead to this, perhaps it was more of hatred.

The Bai family had just arrived and hadn’t had conflicts with him, so why this feeling? Could it be just because they were outsiders? Was Xin Sheng xenophobic?

Fen Jizhi’s gaze fell on Xin Si’s spiritual tablet beside him and sighed, ”Uncle, you’re thinking of Brother Xin Si again, aren’t you?”

Xin Sheng suddenly reddened his eyes, emotionally saying, ”Sisi died unjustly. I cannot forget this vendetta!”
