Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 494: Chapter 496: Hua Xiangrong’s Weaving Pavilion Grand Opening

”I am grateful to the madam for everything today.” Bai Ruozhu said as she solemnly paid her respects towards the elderly lady.

The old lady held her hand and guided her to sit next to the warm stove. She chuckled and said, ”It’s only right; I merely spoke the truth. I heard that your younger brother at the academy was also affected by this situation. Hopefully, after today, those rumors and gossips will cease.”

”Thanks to you, madam, I’m sure things will get better soon.” Bai Ruozhu smiled, then quickly changed the subject: ”Madam, when I examined your second young lady’s pulse the other day, I found that she has a heart ailment from birth.”

”What?” The old mistress’s face paled, ”Are you sure?”

”I didn’t dare to mention it at the time as I was worried that she would be startled, especially as heart patients should avoid stress. But currently, her condition isn’t severe and with proper treatment, it may not lead to frequent relapses.” Bai Ruozhu explained.

”I’m not particularly good at treating heart disease. Perhaps, madam might consider seeking a doctor who is an expert in treating such conditions. Early treatment might mean the second young lady will never have a heart attack.”

The old lady didn’t speak for a while, then somberly said: ”She has been weak since she was a child; I’m appalled to think that it’s a disease from birth that we never noticed. What are the doctors in our home doing?”

Bai Ruozhu was quick to reassure her: ”Don’t blame the doctors, madam. It’s difficult to detect a heart disease like the second young lady’s when she was young. The symptoms may be non-existent, until the patient grows older, and the defect in her heart becomes apparent.”

Only after hearing Bai Ruozhu’s explanation did the old lady manage to suppress her anger. She asked Bai Ruozhu a few questions before finally letting her leave.

Bai Ruozhu left the Meng Residence and took Wa San’s horse carriage home from the street corner.

No one asked her to teach that day, so she happily discussed with the others at home about opening their shop. The next morning, she was taken by Sui Xing for the examination of the four doctors.

When she arrived at the courtyard, she found Meng Liangshen was already there, and the guardsman with the large wound on his chest had also arrived. He was looking healthier than before, showing that he had been taking his medication and resting properly.

Upon seeing Bai Ruozhu, the guardsman knelt on one knee and said with a fist salute, ”Thank you, Doctor Bai for saving my life!”

Bai Ruozhu dismissed it with a wave of her hand and said, ”It was my duty. You should show them your wound.”

The guardsman was a young man and became a little shy when he had to reveal his chest to a female doctor but soon realized it was Bai Ruozhu who had stitched his chest. He then felt more relaxed.

The four doctors were all curious and leaned in to inspect his wound. Ling Shan stared at the guardsman’s smooth skin and said in disbelief, ”Is it almost healed? That’s too fast!”

Bai Ruozhu pointed to the areas where the sutures had dissolved, ”The wound here has healed best, and the catgut sutures have dissolved.”

While she was speaking, everyone watched in amazement as a short section of catgut suture fell off, similar to a stitched thread unraveling. But upon closer inspection, the wound had essentially healed.

Bai Ruozhu signaled for the guardsman to dress, and cautioned him: ”Even though the surface appears to have healed, the inside is not yet fully recovered. The new tissue is delicate, so be careful not to reopen the wound.”

The guardsman quickly nodded and said, ”I will certainly follow doctor’s orders.”

”Alright, let’s begin the assessment. Mr. Meng, have you identified those who need treatment?” Bai Ruozhu asked Meng Liangshen.

Meng Liangshen gestured at an attendant, who quickly brought in four people. All four of them were blind, unable to see anything.

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched, why did she feel like a kidnapper?

The assessment began, with the four doctors treating the four injured patients. Although they had practiced diligently these days, they were still a bit nervous when dealing with real patients. One of them even failed to control the needle well, and the first stitch pulled the thread straight through. He had to do it all over again. He was so scared that his forehead was covered in cold sweat, and he quickly glanced at Bai Ruozhu, praying that she hadn’t noticed his mistake.

About half an hour later, the assessment ended. Meng Liangshen took the four injured patients away, giving Bai Ruozhu the chance to point out the minor mistakes in the doctors’ procedures one by one. However, they were all minor issues, so she considered that they had all passed.

”Thank you, Doctor Bai, for your guidance these days.” The four men chorused, their tone absent of the disdain that was present in the beginning. Instead, there was a gradual appreciation and respect.

Bai Ruozhu smiled and said, ”You all have learned quite a bit. You can go back and report your progress.”

The four men were delighted, thanked Bai Ruozhu profusely, and then left the yard with a bow to Meng Liangshen. He, in turn, let out a sigh of relief, his mission completed with the safe return of the four doctors to the Capital City.

In the following three days, Bai Ruozhu and her family began to tidy up the rented shop. In the process, Madam Liu even paid a visit. After seeing the products Bai Ruozhu was going to sell, she praised them for their uniqueness. Bai Ruozhu cheerfully handed her a small wooden card, saying, ”This is a VIP card for our store. You can get a 20% discount when you visit us moving forward.”

Upon hearing this, Madam Liu was thrilled. The wooden card was exquisite, with a red woven sleeve. The patterns hollowed out in the middle revealed the words engraved on the card: Hua Xiangrong.

”I won’t be polite then, when you open, I’ll be sure to bring people to show support.” Madam Liu said, laughing.

”I really appreciate it, Madam Liu,” Bai Ruozhu replied, also laughing.

The day before the opening, Bai Ruozhu sent invitations to Yu Hongxiu, Madam Liu, and Old Lady Meng, including the Madam Zheng whom Yu Hongxiu had introduced to her.

On the morning of Hua Xiangrong’s opening, other than the school-going Bai Zepei, the entire Bai family was at the shop. Bai Yihong, with a delighted look on his face, held up a firecracker, which Bai Zehao lit. The joyous noise of the firecrackers instantly attracted many onlookers.

Bai Ruozhu hadn’t expected Old Lady Meng to come in person. She thanked Old Lady Meng and said, ”I suppose you must help with the plaque unveiling today.”

Yu Hongxiu clapped her hands and said, ”I was planning to take on that job, but Old Lady Meng snatched it from me.”

Old Lady Meng held the red-cloth-bound pole with a smug look on her face, saying, ”Who can blame me for having seniority? If I don’t take advantage of it, won’t I be at a loss?”

Everyone laughed. Even the Bai family, who hadn’t met Old Lady Meng before, thought she was quite amicable, with no airs about her.

Soon, Old Lady Meng unveiled the red silk covering the plaque. The three shiny lacquered characters were revealed: Hua Xiangrong.

Once inside, everyone saw the poem written on the wall: Like a cloud longing for clothes, flowers for beauty. The spring breeze brushes against the threshold, dew gleaming. If it weren’t for the jewels seen on top of the mountain, we would meet under the moonlit Jade Tower.

”So, that’s why this name, what a great conception! I, an old woman, after seeing it, even want to dress up!” Old Lady Meng sincerely praised.

It’s time to recommend a book again! This time, I would like to suggest my friend Wo Xinyou Ya’s popular novel ”Spoiled Silly Princess: The Cute Prince is Cunning.”. Both the male and female leads are adorable, so don’t miss out!

Brief introduction: ”If I have to get married, I want to marry him...” She pointed to the man in the corner. She, devastatingly beautiful yet dimwitted; he, cute but inscrutable. He is the husband she handpicked. A silly girl paired with a useless prince? This is another ’beautiful tale’ in Shengxiang Country. ”Did you cause trouble for this prince, and now you want to run away?” His voice was gentle yet captivating. Mu Xiya’s heartbeat quickened. Is this really the useless, silly prince? It seems like she’s messed with the wrong person...
