Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 477: Chapter 479: The Gift for Him

The carriage headed towards Beiyu Study Palace, Bai Ruozhu, holding Little Dengdeng, lifted a corner of the curtain to look outside. Little Dengdeng greatly enjoyed watching the outside scenery, entirely disliking the stuffy interior of the carriage.

Almost halfway through their journey, Bai Ruozhu suddenly noticed a person dressed like a peddler. He carried a pole over his shoulder, with fur goods hanging from both ends, including many whole pieces of sable fur, smaller pieces of wild rabbit fur, and even some fluffy fox skins.

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes lit up, instantly attracted by the few pieces of black sable fur.

”Coachman, stop for a moment, I’m going to buy something,” Bai Ruozhu called out from inside the carriage.

The coachman immediately stopped, and Bai Ruozhu anxiously carried Little Dengdeng out of the carriage, walking towards the fur seller as if afraid he would leave before she reached him.

She approached cheerfully and inspected the furs, then touched the black sable fur she had her eye on. Indeed, as she had perceived, the fur felt good to the touch.

If she made a vest with this sable fur for Jiang Yichun, would he like it?

Bai Ruozhu’s mood soared. He had given her so many gifts, yet she had little to offer in return. He was unwilling to wear padded jackets, but the coldest days were unbearably cold. If he wore a sable fur vest that was both lightweight and warm, and did not look bulky, wouldn’t that be perfect?

As she thought about it, her eyes squinting in a smile, she suddenly understood how Jiang Yichun felt when he bought gifts for her. Giving the best to the loved one could make one’s heart feel incredibly sweet.

She didn’t haggle with the peddler and bought a few pieces of sable fur. The peddler curiously wondered why a woman would like these black sable furs, rather than the white rabbit fur or the fluffy fox fur. He even recommended those to her.

Bai Ruozhu quickly shook her head. She feared that fur would flutter into her precious son’s nose. What if he was allergic to fur? Many young children are subject to fur allergies.

Thinking of this, she kept the sable fur she was holding a bit away from Little Dengdeng, then returned to the carriage cradling him, and quickly arrived back near their mansion by the Study Palace.

Bai Ruozhu didn’t have the carriage stop at the front door. She got down directly, tipped the coachman, and let him return, then walked a few steps and, seeing no one near, put the sable fur into her storage space.

”Ruozhu’s back!” Fang Guizhi, who was opening the door, excitedly called out to the yard, then voluntarily took over Little Dengdeng, with an affectionate smile: ”You’re finally back, your mom missed you terribly.”

”Or missed our Little Dengdeng, right?” Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh.

As the family members heard the noise and came out to greet Bai Ruozhu, it turned out that Lin Ping, indeed, went straight for Little Dengdeng and took him into arms, saying excitedly, ”Little Dengdeng, did you miss grandma? Grandma really missed you.”

Bai Ruozhu shrugged her shoulders and said to Fang Guizhi: ”See, Little Dengdeng is the most loved one in this family.”

Bai Yihong came over from the backyard, but because his hands were full of soil, he had to keep a distance to avoid staining Little Dengdeng’s clothes.

”Ruozhu, have you eaten lunch yet?” Bai Yihong asked.

”No, didn’t I rush back to eat with everyone? Turns out my mom only thought of Little Dengdeng and completely forgot about me.” Bai Ruozhu complained on purpose.

Lin Ping, holding Little Dengdeng, gave her a reproachful look and said, ”Are you jealous of your son? That’s really shameless.”

Everyone in the yard laughed, and while they were chatting, they went into the main hall, and Bai Ruozhu began to inquire about the recent situation within the family.

”We are still as usual, working hard on crochet work. Your eldest brother and Uncle Zhang have gone out for some work and will probably come back only in the evening. Your second brother is doing great in the academy, except he is studying too hard. He continues working on his schoolwork by candlelight after dinner.” Lin Ping said.

Bai Ruozhu thought for a while and said, ”Second Brother joined Class A halfway through, so of course, some of his schoolwork has fallen behind. It’s inevitable if he wants to catch up. Let’s prepare and give him more soups that are good for the eyes.”

”Right, you always think more thoroughly.” Lin Ping felt as if she had backbones after her daughter came back.

Although they have been busy with the crochet work these few days, everyone seemed apprehensive. The cost of living in Beiyu City is high; without any business started yet, they all felt unsure of their future.

Bai Ruozhu understood the family’s concerns and said with a smile: ”Let’s find a place to settle within the next two days and then we can open the crochet shop.”

Upon hearing this, everyone agreed unanimously. Afterwards, Lin Ping inquired about the situation at Meng Residence, Bai Ruozhu only mentioned that Old Lady Meng treated her well, but didn’t mention the misunderstanding caused by Lady Meng and the chaos that followed.

After the family had lunch, Bai Ruozhu prepared to bring Little Dengdeng back to the room for a nap, but someone knocked on the door. It turned out to be Yu Hongxiu who came over with her maid.

”Sister Hongxiu, why are you running around? Couldn’t you just send a message to me if there’s anything?” Bai Ruozhu complained, looking at Yu Hongxiu’s belly.

Yu Hongxiu quickly said, ”I was just worried about you!”

Bai Ruozhu instantly understood what she was referring to. She didn’t expect the incident to spread out of the Meng Residence so quickly. Was this an indication of Lady Meng’s inadequate family management, or was it deliberate?

She quickly gave Yu Hongxiu a look, saying, ”Don’t run around anymore, I’ll send you back. By the way, I’ll make a new diet plan for you. Also, I want to buy or rent a small shop to start a business. You know many people in Beiyu City, do you know where I can find a suitable shop?”

Yu Hongxiu understood immediately and said, ”Let’s walk and talk then.” After saying that, she greeted Bai Yihong and Lin Ping with a smile and then left with Bai Ruozhu.

Once they were in the carriage, Yu Hongxiu anxiously asked, ”What exactly happened? Rumors are flying around everywhere now, and I’m really worried it will affect your reputation.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t tell Yu Hongxiu the truth, she could only say, ”Yesterday, a well-known servant of Lord Meng was slashed in the chest by a bandit.” Bai Ruozhu demonstrated the movement as she spoke, ”The situation was critical, so they called me to save him. It took a lot of effort, but I managed to save his life. Today, when I went to check in on him, surprisingly, Lady Meng surged in.”

”The rumors say that nobody is allowed to enter Lord Meng’s study except you, that’s why Lady Meng got anxious. But why can’t she just ask Lord Meng? What was the point in creating such a fuss?” Yu Hongxiu said angrily.

”Don’t get upset; mind your health. The old lady assured me that she would uphold justice for me, so let’s not worry about it. Even if they don’t care about my reputation, wouldn’t Lord Meng care about his own?” Bai Ruozhu said nonchalantly.

Yu Hongxiu sighed, ”I’m just scared that once rumors spread, it may affect your future, and even your chance of getting remarried.”

With clear eyes and an exceedingly calm expression, Bai Ruozhu declared, ”If you live a righteous life, you will not fear if the shadow leans. If the man who wishes to marry me doesn’t trust me, then maybe it’s better not to marry him.”
