Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Yesterday, Mr. Fu kept asking Ye Jian questions. Ye Jian knew that Mr. Fu wouldn’t stop just like that. As long as the insiders didn’t say anything, Mr. Fu wouldn’t know.

”Dad, it’s been hard on you. Don’t worry, I’ll collect my emotions. I won’t cause trouble for you and Uncle.”

”You won’t be causing trouble. I’m just worried that your father will think too much. You have to try to make your father calm down and not suspect anything again. Do you understand?” Commander Xia had always been resigned to his future daughter-in-law’s politeness. They were family. There was no need to talk like this.

Old Master Fu had said that the Fu family was like this. They adhered to etiquette.

It was impossible for them to be impolite.

Ye Jian responded to all his reminders. She planned to completely dispel Mr. Fu’s uneasiness in a few days.

When they arrived at the Southern Province, it was drizzling. There was no need to hold an umbrella. They passed through the drizzle that was as fine as an ox’s fur. Their hair was slightly wet, forming a layer of light white water droplets.

Mr. Fu knelt on the wet grass and looked at the photo with a serious expression. In the photo, Uncle Chen was looking straight ahead. Facing him, Mr. Fu kowtowed three times. He kowtowed a little too hard. Mr. Fu’s forehead, which was stained by the grass, was slightly red.

”Brother, you left so suddenly. I only heard the bad news a few days ago. I apologize to you!” As he spoke, Mr. Fu kowtowed again. Ye Jian, who was kneeling, kowtowed heavily with red eyes.

Yesterday, she was able to control herself in front of her mother’s grave. Today, when she arrived at Uncle Chen’s cenotaph, Ye Jian couldn’t control herself anymore. She walked into the sniper base with tears in her eyes.

Familiar people, familiar place… The only thing missing was her family member.

The path Uncle Chen walked on was still there. The targets that Uncle Chen shot at were still there. The bench that Uncle Chen sat on when he was resting was still here. The dormitory that Uncle Chen stayed in was still the same. It was cleaned by his comrades from the sniper base every day. It was as if Uncle Chen would push the door open and enter the room the next second.

Mr. Fu’s eyes were red too. His brother had taken care of his daughter for so long. Before he could thank him properly, they were already separated.

The father and daughter were kneeling and chatting with Uncle Chen. Mr. Fu talked about the recent military situation. He talked about the huge success of the missile launched by the base some time ago. He also talked about how some Western countries felt threatened by the success of their missile. He talked about many things, including the topics surrounding Uncle Chen’s life when he was still alive.

When it was Ye Jian’s turn, Ye Jian talked about her school life, her training, and the current investigation of the National Defense.

”Uncle Chen, don’t worry. I listened to you and didn’t investigate it myself. It’s all an in-depth investigation by the National Defense. The National Defense won’t let your murderer off.”

The father and daughter knelt and talked for a long time. When they got up, Mr. Fu almost fell forward. Fortunately, Ye Jian was fast enough to hold him.

”Brother, Ye Jian and I will come and see you next time. This child is busy. I hope you can forgive her for not coming to see you from time to time. If there’s any latest news from the National Defense, I will definitely come and tell you. I hope you can forgive us for not being able to come and chat with you for a long time.”

”Uncle Chen, I’ll visit you next time. Goodbye, Uncle Chen.”

In the drizzle, Ye Jian, who had gotten up, knelt down again and kowtowed heavily to bid farewell. The wind blew past her fine black hair. A few raindrops dripped down her face from the roots of her hair. The tears in her eyes flowed out and merged with the rainwater. Finally, they slowly slid down her cheeks.

In the photo, Uncle Chen was still looking straight ahead with a sharp gaze. He was staring at the entire sniper base as if he had never left.
