Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 94: Chapter 94:

”Actually, Qian’er, your grandma’s house isn’t worth much. How about we do it this way?”

”It’s not about the money; it’s about making those unfilial people pay! Even if you take care of my grandma until the end, they won’t say a nice word about you. They’ll even claim you got money from her behind everyone’s back.”

In the previous life, my second aunt did exactly this. She took all the advantage and then turned around to bite back without any reason. To deal with such evil people, you have to be even more ruthless than they are!

”Nonsense, all your grandma’s money is held by them. We haven’t gotten a single penny. We’ve been taking turns looking after the elderly for so many years. Every time your grandma comes to our place, it’s us buying food. Your dad fights with me about this every day, and your second uncle gives us nothing...”

”Do you have any evidence that you’re spending money on the elderly?”

”What evidence? Heaven is the evidence. But heaven is blind...” Jia Xiufang started complaining again.

Chen Xiaoqian gestured for her to stop. ”The law won’t listen to this. Regardless of whether the elderly give you money or not, you have to take care of them. In front of the judge, never say you’re unwilling to care if there’s no money involved. That’ll make the judge dislike you.”

”Qian’er, concerning our family’s issue, what exactly should we do?” Jia Xiufang was getting confused.

”Just take good care of the elders. Within six months, my second aunt will find a way to start trouble. At that time, my eldest uncle will be on your side. When we go to court, the hospital’s documentation and police records will back us up. We have evidence of them abusing the elderly. Our care before the relocation wasn’t for money but out of filial duty! When that happens, the judge will naturally consider these factors and my eldest uncle’s testimony.”

Second aunt’s family, they essentially lost both of their properties themselves.

In less than six months, the relocation will happen, and second aunt will try to take the elderly back.

But by then, it will be too late. The eldest uncle will have taken his stance, and Qian will have records and the eldest uncle’s testimony. They can’t take the elderly back. Morality and the law will both be on Jia Xiufang’s side.

”Your grandma only thinks about her second son... Her words work better than any legal action we take. If only your grandpa was still here. Your grandpa was fair. Even if he didn’t give us as much as your two uncles, he would still give us something, wouldn’t let us do this for free.”

What Qian did not say was, by the time it matters, even if her grandma favors the second uncle, it’ll be useless.

Because her grandma is about to become senile. Once senile, she won’t have civil competency. As long as Jia Xiufang and the eldest uncle don’t give in, the second uncle can’t do anything. Drag it out until the elderly pass, then follow the inheritance law. Without a will specifying whom the house goes to, it will be divided equally!

In the previous life, this situation didn’t happen because the eldest uncle didn’t get involved, and Qian’s mom didn’t stand up against the second uncle.

Chen Xiaoqian pierced through this veneer of sibling affection, dismissing rural customs and feelings to discuss law and evidence.

”Mom, with your character, you can’t watch the elderly suffer and do nothing. If you take care of the elderly and don’t get the house, the second uncle’s family will call you foolish. If you take the money, they’ll still scold you. Either way, you’ll be scolded. What do you think you should do?”

Talking about feelings with shameless people, are you stupid?

Chen Xiaoqian’s words were an eye-opening revelation for Jia Xiufang.

If the grandpa were alive, the house would definitely be divided between the two sons, and the daughter would get some money—not as much as the sons, but they wouldn’t let her leave empty-handed.

With the grandpa gone, the grandma is fully biased toward her sons.

Such sons raised by a mother who favors males are all like the second uncle.

Most women who favor males are themselves victims of this mindset.

They grew up overlooked, despised, hurt, and instilled with the belief that men are the useful, valuable ones, and women’s role is only to continue the family line; only bearing sons grants one status.

From a psychological standpoint, victims have no choice but to rely on their abusers and become accomplices. This is truly a sad situation.

According to rural tradition, a married daughter is like spilled water, with no entitlement to her family’s money. But once married, if divorced, and without a strategic advisor like Xiaoqian, she could lose her house, land, and face a miserable rest of her life. Didn’t that happen to Jia Xiufang in her previous life?

If not for Xiaoqian later striking it rich, Jia Xiufang would still be living in a run-down straw cottage, enduring a tough existence with no recourse.

Traditions passed down through centuries aren’t necessarily reasonable. When unable to change the broader environment, one must strive for self-reliance. This was how Xiaoqian pushed herself to grow.

As long as Chen Xiaoqian is around, no one will take even a penny advantage of her. Her compassion isn’t large enough for sainthood.

When all this was dealt with, it was already nighttime.

Chen Xiaoqian lay in bed, listening to her mom and grandma chatting in the next room. After getting rid of her deadbeat dad, the world felt much broader to her.

Everything seemed pleasant.

Sometimes she would reflect on whether she had a character flaw, being so unfeeling toward her own family.

She didn’t regret kicking out her useless father.

She didn’t regret using strategies to help her mom fight for the property.

From a normal ethical perspective, what she did might be called cold-hearted.

But Yu Minglang said, as long as she wasn’t breaking the law or hurting herself, she could handle those who bullied her however she wanted...

Watching the clouds outside the window, she thought they particularly resembled Yu Minglang’s profile.

As she was thinking of him, Chen Zilong shouted from downstairs, ”Sister, phone call! Lang is calling!”

The big advantage of announcing a relationship openly is not having to nervously throw pebbles at windows anymore. Now, he directly calls.

Chen Xiaoqian hurriedly got up to head downstairs but then thought her eagerness seemed too hasty, so she slowed her pace and walked over deliberately.

”Hey, what’s up?” she asked, picking up the phone.

”I’ve already heard about your uncle’s family. Can’t leave for a few days. You did well, knowing to use the law to protect yourself without acting rashly. I commend you for that.”

Chen Xiaoqian rolled her eyes, knowing she couldn’t hide anything from him.

”I can handle it myself. Don’t get involved.”

”Mm, I trust your skills. Please let Aunt know to take care of the elders without worry; no one will dare cause trouble at our home.”

”This is my home!”

”Alright, stop being pouty. Get some rest.”

He hung up quickly, with the same calm tone. For anyone not familiar with him like Xiaoqian, he’d seem like he was purposely acting cool.

”Who’s pouty! Shameless!” Chen Xiaoqian said playfully, talking into the phone.

Chen Zilong passed by quietly as the background, realizing women in love indeed have this contradictory nature.

His sister definitely hadn’t looked in the mirror; the sweetness in her expression could make someone’s teeth sting.
