Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 56: Chapter 56: I Am the Psychiatrist, Chen Xiaoqian

Zheng Xu is Chen Xiaoqian’s patient, but he’s not just a simple patient.

Zheng Xu’s achievements in later years were far from ordinary, so visiting a psychiatrist naturally needed to be kept confidential.

That’s why he used a very special way to ”invite” Xiaoqian over.

Back then, Xiaoqian was grabbed by a group of men in black, arms bound and mouth covered, dragged into a car, and thrown into Zheng Xu’s villa.

Zheng Xu, acting all pretentious, said, ”If you dare to leak that I’m sick, don’t think you’ll walk away in one piece.”

At that time, Xiaoqian was already a well-known psychiatrist. Facing this guy’s threat, she merely raised an eyebrow and gestured a five.

Zheng Xu was puzzled, what did that mean?

Xiaoqian told him, ”Five thousand bucks an hour for consultation, not a penny less, plus—slap! Hand raised, palm fell, and crisply gave him a slap across the face.”

That slap was in return for him having her tied up and brought over.

From the time Xu started roaming the underworld, he’d seen it all, blades and blood, but for the first time, a woman dared hit him, and in such an elegant manner.

Zheng Xu’s underlings were terrified to see their boss getting slapped, and were about to retaliate when Xiaoqian calmed them with just one sentence.

At that time, Xiaoqian was already a boss-level woman, successful in her career with a powerful aura. She glanced around and just asked, ”Do you not want him to live? Besides me, there’s no second psychiatrist in the country who can treat him. Try if you don’t believe me!”

That’s how Zheng Xu became her patient. Xiaoqian consulted him for about half a year, and while the illness wasn’t cured, they became friends.

Zheng Xu publicly claimed Xiaoqian was under his protection, and many outside speculated there was something unspeakable between Xiaoqian and Zheng Xu.

In Xiaoqian’s view, it was all nonsense. Zheng Xu had a wife; she didn’t need a man. From personality to temperament to style, they were exceptionally similar, so they got along well, could talk and drink.

He was one of the few friends Xiaoqian had. Sometimes, looking at him, Xiaoqian felt like she was seeing the male version of herself, and believed Zheng Xu saw in Xiaoqian the female version of himself.

To put it professionally, it was a psychological twin. Xiaoqian once used a set of questions psychologists use to test if someone is a psycho, and they did it together.

Out of 10 questions, they had 8 identical answers, all signs of high intelligence and psychological darkness. Probably because negatives attract, Xiaoqian found Zheng Xu more pleasing than others, and Zheng Xu particularly took care of Xiaoqian.

Unexpectedly, she saw Zheng Xu earlier in this life. Judging by his outfit, he seemed to be doing well, not as amazing as he would be, but definitely had family wealth, and the keys he carried were to a Mercedes.

In Xiaoqian’s years of clinical cases, there weren’t many failures, and Zheng Xu was one.

Despite receiving years of care, she never cured his illness, a knot in Xiaoqian’s heart.

Zheng Xu wasn’t just a friend but Xiaoqian’s psychological twin. As long as she could cure him, Xiaoqian could find a way to free herself from her own obsession.

”Quick! Support Xu, has 120 arrived?”

There was a noise upfront, Xiaoqian looked up from the sound, and a few men were bringing over a comatose man, isn’t it Zheng Xu lying there?

Zheng Xu’s eyes were shut, face pale, breathing rapid, his sweat soaking his clothes.

At a glance, outsiders might think it was a heart attack or other acute illness, but Xiaoqian recognized it instantly, this was Zheng Xu’s special phobia attack!

Just like when he had episodes in his previous life.

”No need to go to the hospital, find a private room, I’ll treat him.” Xiaoqian stepped forward resolutely.

Zheng Xu’s underlings were waiting for the elevator, hearing Xiaoqian’s words, they looked at her skeptically.

”You?”

”I’m a psychiatrist, do as I say. Taking him to the hospital won’t help, it will only make his condition worse.”

In his previous life, Zheng Xu was sent to the hospital under such circumstances, prescribed various nerve-regulating meds by quacks, which only worsened him. When Xiaoqian took over his case, upon seeing it, she nearly wanted to strangle those incompetents.

Neurologists in the country love to prescribe meds; no matter the illness, start with meds, very unprofessional. Regardless of what causes psychological illnesses, meds are the first resort, just like visiting a hospital, good doctors prescribe meds, bad ones give anti-inflammatories, very harmful to the body.

Xiaoqian’s words made them half-believe, half-doubt; she looked too young, unlike a doctor.

Seeing their distrust, Xiaoqian calmly said, ”He saw something with serrated edges, which caused symptoms like dizziness, vertigo, sweating, heart palpitations, and even fainting. If you don’t believe me, check it out.”

A underling ran back to the dining room, and sure enough, saw a serrated impressionist painting on the wall, convinced of Xiaoqian’s words.

”Doctor, how’s the boss?”

”No big deal, take him to a room.”

Xiaoqian directed them to carry Zheng Xu to a room, then shooed everyone out, calmly standing at the window looking outside.

What could she do? Zheng Xu wasn’t physically ill. Fainting due to psychological issues doesn’t require medication, he’ll be fine once he wakes.

Zheng Xu’s condition belonged to specific phobias within phobias, also known as simple phobias.

Patients who contact or even think about feared objects or scenarios become anxious, terrified, and desperately avoid them, severe cases result in fainting like Zheng Xu.

Actually, everyone has some phobias to some extent like girls fearing cockroaches, snakes, some fear heights, blood, or going to the dentist. Normal people know their fears and avoid them without needing treatment, but Zheng Xu can’t.

What he fears is very rare, serrated edges. Seeing saw-like edges causes panic, even fainting. Teeth aren’t common, nor rare, you never know when you’ll encounter them, like today, fainting without warning.

Five minutes later, Zheng Xu awoke, at first glance almost thinking he’d gone to heaven.

Because a few meters away stood a backlit angel.

Standing sideways, looking out the window, only showing a side profile, long eyelashes casting a lovely shadow, sunshine piercing through her body reflecting on the wall, really like a set of wings, her whole body had a halo.

Clearly standing in shadow, yet viewed as full of sunshine.

”You’re awake.” Xiaoqian turned to him, speaking seriously.

”I’m psychologist Chen Xiaoqian. I’d like to discuss your treatment plan for your specific phobia; would you like to talk to me?”
