Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Divorce Summons

Chen Lin handed a box of sour plums to Qu Xue, who was sitting on the kang with her feet soaking in a basin, eating the sour plums with one hand and letting Chen Lin massage her feet.

”Xue, are you still feeling uncomfortable?” Chen Lin asked with concern.

”Ah, I’m exhausted. I don’t know whether you have this good fortune.” Qu Xue touched her belly, ”I think I’m pregnant. It’s been late for a few days now, and I’ve heard that craving sour things can mean you’ll have a son.”

The word ”son” made Chen Lin’s old face light up.

Even though Chen Zilong is also a son, having more sons, who can carry on the family name, is always a good thing.

”Have you told that crazy woman in your family? If you don’t tell her soon, I’ll abort this child!”

”No, don’t abort it! It’s fate, how can you be so heartless!” Chen Lin was terrified of this.

”Am I heartless or are you? I’m not forcing you to divorce that crazy woman of yours, just give me and our child some assurance. I’ve been with you for so long and never asked for anything, just let me have the house in your hometown, give our son some security, is that too much to ask?”

Besides the two-story building in Q City built with Jia Xiufang, Chen Lin also had a three-room brick house in his hometown.

It’s currently vacant, with no one living in it.

”Xue, what do you want that for? It’s not worth much and can’t be sold.”

Qu Xue smiled softly, but there was a cunning glint in her eyes.

”Isn’t it because I’m worried about you? With your means, asking you to give me the two-story building really is too much to ask!”

Actually, her brother, who was a team leader in the village, recently got word that the area was going to be redeveloped, and Chen Lin’s old house was included in the plan, which would bring compensation.

”They’ve been saying for a long time that they would relocate around White Tower Ridge, but there’s been no news. Really, if that area gets redeveloped, the two-story building could be divided into three small apartments, I’ll give you one then.”

Chen Lin, like most people, thought the redevelopment wouldn’t happen.

Qu Xue sneered, ”Wow, that’s generous talk. Don’t say there’s no chance for redevelopment, even if it happens, would you really give me an apartment? Don’t tell me these baseless things, just let me know if you can give me the three-room brick house in your hometown?”

Chen Lin was anxious as she brought the topic back to the old house.

”My mom is guarding that house, if she finds out, it’s definitely a no...”

Although Jia Xiufang wasn’t loved by Chen Lin, she was still a good daughter-in-law in front of his mother. If she found out Chen Lin kicked out his first wife, impregnated another woman, and gave her the old house, the old lady would be furious.

”How old are you now? Nearly 50, and you can’t even make this decision? That old house of yours is so shabby a gust of wind could knock it down, it just sits there anyway, why can’t you just give it to me? I’ve been with you since I was young, and have gotten nothing!”

”Didn’t I buy you things with the money from the savings book?” He had gambled some away, but left the rest to Qu Xue.

Qu Xue said there was an emergency at home and her mom was sick, demanding money from Chen Lin, who handed it over.

”And you promised me twenty thousand dollars, where’s the money?”

”...It’s just, it’s just that Qian’s wedding fell through. If she could get married, this money would have been delivered.”

Qu Xue covered her face, making a weeping sound.

”I thought I followed a boss, but you can’t even give me twenty thousand dollars, this child has no luck being born. I’m going to find your mom and tell her you got me pregnant, and see how the old lady handles it!”

”No, you can’t go to the old lady!”

”Either give me money or give me the old house, or I’ll tell your mom!”

The two were arguing when suddenly they heard a knock on the door.

Chen Lin got up to open the door, outside were uniformed personnel holding an envelope.

”Hello, I’m from the district court. Please sign for this subpoena.”

”Court...?” Chen Lin was baffled.

Opening it, he found it was a divorce subpoena stamped with a red seal, leaving Chen Lin at a loss for words.

Jia Xiufang... wants to divorce him?

”Please sign the delivery receipt.” After verifying Chen Lin’s identity, the staff asked him to sign, Qu Xue walked over at this moment, not even having time to wipe her feet, and upon seeing this scene, snatched the subpoena and threw it on the ground after a glance.

”Don’t sign!”

She was shrewder than Chen Lin, not knowing exactly what this was about, but sensing signing would be a disadvantage.

These situations the staff had seen many times, ”If you don’t sign, I’ll leave it here and get a witness to sign. Whether you sign or not, it will be considered delivered. Please be noted to attend on the date specified on the subpoena, which is in 3 days. If you don’t appear, you’ll be summoned.”

After the staff left, Chen Lin stared at the subpoena on the ground, Jia Xiufang actually initiated divorce? Furthermore, she knew he’d been hiding here?

This feeling was incredibly difficult to describe.

He had always looked down on his wife, assuming she was a simple rural woman of no consequence, thinking she’d never cause any trouble. Now, she suddenly pulled a big move, and it left Chen Lin dumbfounded.

”Isn’t divorce better? Let her leave, who would want her after divorce, an old woman daring to compete with me for a man. You withhold kicking her mercifully, she herself begs for divorce, some ungrateful thing.”

Qu Xue realized her opportunity might have arrived, her words pushed Chen Lin towards divorce.

Chen Lin glared at her, ”Long hair but short wit, she filed for divorce, what about the house! This restless woman, see if I don’t go back and beat her to death, she dared to divorce, I spit, ungrateful thing!”

Chen Lin charged out with anger, Qu Xue returned to the room, humming a tune as she ate the sour plums, popping contraceptive pills with a mutter.

”Hurry up with the divorce, this thing messes with the period, really damages the body.”

She was just using this trick to fool Chen Lin, aiming to take the house in his hometown. Chen Lin’s divorce seemed like a grand favorable situation where she would get half of the property, little did she know Chen Lin couldn’t move even a brick from it.

Chen Lin stormed back home, only to be surprised that the house was locked with a sign selling the dry cleaning business, with no one home.

He waited from morning till night, yet no one returned, where did that wicked woman run off to?

Qian led her mom to the seaside for relaxation, even packing her troublesome brother along.

She had foresaw Chen Lin would make a scene after receiving the subpoena, and didn’t give him that chance.

Keeping separated before the trial was the best choice, by the time they return for the hearing, divorce would already be a foregone fact.

Chen Lin prolongedly waited but not seeing anyone, with the subpoena in his pocket, suddenly realizing he had lost control over the present situation.

Chen Lin was anxious, Qian on vacation, with breathtaking sea and sands, would have been perfect without the sudden arrival of a man fervently demonstrating his presence.
