Chapter 891: Chapter 712: Disposition (Part 3)

”I don’t deny it.”

Tobio shrugged in the gradually cooling night wind and suddenly said, ”Have you heard? They say there’s a plan to issue ’The Calm’ Decree.”

Lawrence was silent for a moment and nodded slowly.

The situation is overwhelmingly unfavorable for the Alliance now...

The so-called ’The Calm’ Decree is one of the traditions passed down from a famous edict in Yingzhou’s history.

In total, it’s only four characters.

— Peace for all under heaven.

But in reality, it has nothing to do with peace; rather, it allows for underground warfare.

During the seven-day order period, all disputes and conflicts that can’t be put on the table can be resolved in secret. As long as it doesn’t affect societal stability on the surface, no matter how many people die or how much damage is caused, the authorities will not pursue it.

”It’s just like issuing a business license for a dogfighting ring, isn’t it?

The country’s entire consumption tax policy actually depends on the outcome and lives of a bunch of yakuza. Even though I’ve grown old, sometimes I find this world too absurd and ridiculous. But regardless, we have no choice.”

Tobio said with his fingers counting, ”The K Party and the Fool’s Team have reportedly become very close recently and should be planning something big. Meanwhile, the Triad and the Great Circle have started to retreat completely, presumably opting not to get involved.

As for the Iron King Party, those lackeys have been eyeing the Tanbo Inner Circle for too long... The big shots above have all placed heavy bets, yet no one seems to favor us, Lawrence-kun.”

Tobio stated decisively, ”Once the Kyoto Battle starts, we’ll likely be the first to be besieged... Meanwhile, the Alliance is still a scattered mess, with the five leaders going their separate ways, and some are even preparing for a revolt? It doesn’t seem like there’s a bright future.

Time is limited, and we must reunite everyone... Of course, it would be best if it could be under my leadership.”

Tobio clapped his empty hands softly and sighed quietly, ”So-called human relationships are just an excuse. I need to find an opportunity to have a good talk with the Chiba Family.

If the Alliance can be united because of this, I’m willing to acknowledge Huaizhi Gang’s contribution.”

At this, the old man grinned and showed a smile, ”If he’s not satisfied with that, as long as enough credit can be established, I wouldn’t mind marrying off that ugly girl at home to him.”

Lawrence was stunned, lifting his eyes, ”Lihua is back? At this critical time?”

”Yes, won’t listen no matter what.” Tobio revealed a smug smile, ”Don’t look down on her just because she’s young; she’s no less valiant than her mother... Want to meet her later?”

”No need, too many things to do.”

Lawrence retracted his gaze, took out his felt hat from his coat and put it on, finally giving him a glance, ”And don’t think I don’t know how much of those were alarmist talk.

You old ghost, even at this point, you’re still craving more power...”

Tobio countered, ”What’s wrong with that, my friend?”

”No, that’s just perfect.”

Lawrence turned and disappeared into the darkness.

In the silence, Tobio quietly gazed at the calm pond before him, and after a long time, turned and left.

.

.

In the dead of night, Huai Shi startled awake from a dream, opening his eyes.

He saw the figure that had appeared somehow in the corner of his new bedroom.

He slowly propped himself up and looked over, ”Who is it?”

”Lawrence, the person you tried to contact by phone.” The smoking drifter took off his hat and softly sighed, ”I must say, you’ve stirred up quite a bit of trouble lately, quite a mess.”

”Are you talking about the Tiger King Group?”

Lawrence shook his head, ”I’m talking about the water company’s issue; it will only attract official disdain...”

Huai Shi chuckled, ”Should we really care about those unhappy just because those mixed-blood commoners got clean water to drink?”

Lawrence didn’t answer, only placed an envelope on the table in front of him, ”The verdict from the five leaders is out.”

”Is it amputation or expulsion?”

Huai Shi asked.

Lawrence unexpectedly glanced at him and shook his head, ”The Huaizhi Gang needs to complete a task to avoid punishment.”

”Dirty work? Sounds more troublesome than amputation.” Huai Shi looked at the contents and photos in the open envelope, ”Kill? Or what?”

”Use your discretion, but the Alliance won’t bear any consequences for you. Simply put, by doing this, you’ll offend the Light Illumination’s Church, and then tens of thousands of believers across Yingzhou will see you as a thorn in their side.”

The Light Illumination’s Church.

An emerging religion spreading across Southeast Asia, thriving in religiously legal countries like Yingzhou and Shinra, with followers including many in high positions.

Unlike the Extreme Path, which can’t see the light of day, its influence and status in Kyoto are remarkable, not to mention the many Sublimators.

If handled poorly, the Huaizhi Gang could be crushed to pieces...

”That’s it?”

Huai Shi smiled confidently, put away the envelope, ”Got it, leave it to me.”

Lawrence was taken aback too, ”Don’t need any help?”

”If necessary, I’ll ask.”

Huai Shi smiled, watching Lawrence disappear into the darkness.

For a long time after, he looked around, confirmed no one else was present, and suddenly his expression dropped—after some thought and careful analysis, he felt this move wouldn’t just hinder growth, but might cause immediate demise...

At this point, there’s only one option left!

He closed his eyes, put his hands together, and prayed devoutly.

”—Aila A Dream, save me!!!”

On the other end of the line, Ai Qing, who had stayed up all night cleaning up someone’s mess and hadn’t slept for over thirty hours, expressionlessly picked up a water cup and took stomach medicine.

Then, she coldly rolled her eyes.

Hopeless, wait for death, goodbye!
