Chapter 869: Chapter 696: How Old Are You?

This is hope.

For hybrids, hope that is nearly impossible to obtain regardless of how many hardships they endure.

Indeed, beastified characteristic beings themselves are difficult to cure, there is no medicine for them, unless it’s a rebirth like during the developmental stage after sublimation, there is absolutely no way to escape the mutation that occurred before they were even born.

But if used properly, this brand-new cell fusion inducer can become a valuable cornerstone, allowing further development of novel biological agents — specialized medication targeting beastified characteristic beings!

It comprehensively suppresses the complications on beastified characteristic beings, like insulin in diabetics, alleviating and reducing the appearance of various complications through injections.

Even if it can’t provide a complete cure, it can greatly extend the average life expectancy of hybrids and lessen the suffering of patients.

This is the original sin born within beastified characteristic beings, incessant alienation brings various complications, nearly over eighty percent of beastified characteristic beings are tortured to death by various ailments.

If Professor Matsumoto succeeds, there’s no doubt that beastified characteristic beings will embrace new hope and dawn.

For this, he poured forty years of his time, burning through unimaginable amounts of budget. At the worst times, even the funding flow from the Ivory Tower could barely make ends meet.

The only condition for Luo Su’s investment was: the developer must include the name of the Ivory Tower. Besides necessary profits to maintain production, he wouldn’t add a single penny more!

Just this condition was enough to make Matsumoto Genichiro utterly grateful to Luo Su.

Originally everything was going well.

Based on the premise that... nothing goes wrong.

”I won’t elaborate on the principles here.”

Isaac’s expression had never been grimmer: ”You just need to know that it could combine any hybrid with the virus of the Abyss at any time, turning living people into biochemical weapons.”

Huai Shi stood frozen for a long time, then froze again, his legs trembling uncontrollably.

A chill ran down his spine.

Just imagine, ten, a hundred, a thousand... even tens of thousands of Huai Shi lacking control over his Plague Halo, recklessly spreading toxins throughout the Current Circumstances.

By then, how much destruction will be wrought? How many deaths will occur?

This power, when injected with the hybrids’ hatred and prejudice towards society, how terrifying a nightmare could it create?

The balance will be completely broken.

Every hybrid... will become a potential source of infection and transmission tool!

Before Huai Shi could react, Mr. Isaac could no longer suppress his fury, the terrifying prestige of a Fifth Stage Sublimator turned to steel, solidifying the air.

The alarms within the room exploded instantly, and before him, a thick sheet of tempered glass rapidly appeared with snowflake-like cracks...

He waved his hand, causing the alarms spreading quickly in the air and circuits to abruptly halt.

Isolation from the outside.

Even the time of the adjacent Jurisdiction Bureau commissioner was completely frozen.

Causing that face to remain fixed in a moment of astonishment.

Thoughts stagnated.

”Matsumoto, what exactly are you thinking?” Isaac said coldly, ”What do you take the honor and stance of the Ivory Tower for! Why didn’t you say this earlier!”

”Say it to whom?”

Behind the shattered glass, the elderly man raised his head, asking in puzzlement: ”To Yingzhou people? Don’t you understand, Mr. Isaac? This country has long had issues.”

He raised his voice, yelling at the man before him: ”This country—is sick! Haven’t you seen? Discrimination, bullying, workplace suppression... the Duke and Wu Family, Hua Clan and civilians, everyone is already abnormal! Here, discrimination is like breathing, engraved into their instincts!

Anyone different from them is their enemy, being different from others is original sin here! Even breathing is wrong!

Don’t you understand how insignificant our existence as hybrids is?

Will the Yingzhou people save us? No, they won’t!

They’ve long wanted to find an opportunity to level the Tanbo Inner Circle! They haven’t massacred all the hybrids merely because they lack a reason!—Should I personally give Deer’s Sing Hall the excuse to kill my compatriots?”

Despite their vastly differing power levels, the hunchbacked old man widened his eyes and glared at his superior: ”When I was young, my father taught me a philosophy, as long as someone wants to live, they can survive, drinking sewage, eating garbage, even if they live in a way that doesn’t resemble a human, it doesn’t matter.

But my mother told me, if someone wants someone to die, then they will die... just abandon them, as the Jurisdiction Bureau has done!

So many people, Mr. Isaac, so many people struggling to survive hidden in places where light can’t reach, fighting like dogs for a mouthful of food, prostituting, selling smiles, selling physical labor... selling themselves and their children, selling everything that can be sold just to survive, yet still failing to live.

Aside from survival itself, they have nothing left! But what have they done wrong? They only want to live!

”I am a hybrid too, and surviving until now, it’s all thanks to their pity and blessings, without them there wouldn’t be me! I want to help them but I’m powerless; I want normals and them to coexist peacefully, but both sides only see me as a traitor! What should I do?”

I can’t indulge in my pain like a student and choose violence.

There is no longer any way to use reason to restrain one’s impulses like in the past, to seek that now long-forsaken glimmer of hope.

After being regarded as a traitor by his people, he chose to conceal it to protect them, becoming a betrayer of the Ivory Tower...

Now, Matsumoto Genichiro has collapsed before this immense despair, tears streaming down his face, begging the person in front of him, ”If you’re going to kill, please kill me along with them! I only plead with you, after my death, make sure to find God City, at least don’t let more people die because of this...”

In the silence, Isaac did not speak, neither angry nor showing any change in expression, just calmly replied, ”Professor Matsumoto, this is no longer within the realm that the Ivory Tower can involve itself with, and the Jurisdiction Bureau will not permit us to interfere in Current Circumstances and Yingzhou’s internal affairs... Regarding this, I am powerless.”

No matter how Matsumoto pleaded, how he raged or begged, his attitude would not change at all.

Even if the heavens and earth were collapsing, he would absolutely not let the Ivory Tower get involved in such undiscriminating turmoil—

In the long silence, Matsumoto’s body gradually collapsed, kneeling on the ground, numbly praying again and again. To Isaac, to the person in front of him... Huai Shi.

”I beg you, Huai Shi-kun, I beg you... help me.”

The old man’s forehead rubbed against the glass shards on the ground, leaving streaks of blood: ”I beg you. I will definitely repay you, I will, I still have value, I, I...”

By the end, he was choking with sobs.

Huai Shi wanted to speak, but Isaac’s cold gaze came over, a hand pressing on his shoulder, restraining his overly indulgent compassion.

He closed his eyes, bit his teeth, and opened his mouth to speak.

But then he heard a voice from the side.

”Rest assured, he will help you, Professor Matsumoto.”

From the slowly opening door, the smoking person looked at Huai Shi’s expression, disdainfully pursing his lips: ”After all, he’s that kind of hopelessly good person, as long as you’re suffering in front of him, he can’t move away.

Even if he says no, tonight he will secretly sneak into the Tanbo Inner Circle... However, you shouldn’t have dangerous ideas about breaking the law and overstepping the Jurisdiction Bureau’s authority, right, ’Mr. Huai Shi’.”

The pronunciation of his name was deliberately emphasized, as a warning.

I’m not, I didn’t, damn you, don’t speak nonsense!

Huai Shi instinctively wanted to argue, but turned back in anger, and saw those long-missed eyes, still with the same cold expression.

Couldn’t help but swallow.

Nodded earnestly.

”Yes, yes, yes, that’s right, I love helping people the most!”

Huai Shi pounded his chest with a thump, ”Leave it to me, I will definitely abide by the laws of the Current Circumstances and the Astronomical Society’s rules, and be an Inspector useful to the world.”

”Very well.”

The newcomer nodded, looking at the others in the room: ”Although it seems I’ve come at a bad time, the visiting hour is over, everyone, is it convenient to move to the meeting room to continue the discussion?”

.

.

After the long meeting ended, Huai Shi couldn’t help but yawn.

In fact, he wasn’t part of the meeting...

As if, what kind of people were attending the meeting? The Vice President fully representing the Ivory Tower, the Special Commissioner of the Central Decision Room of the Jurisdiction Bureau, the Branch Chief of the Yingzhou Jurisdiction Bureau... While directly connected through the network were the highest-level leaders of the Jurisdiction Bureau Decision Room and the three directors of the Aerial Floors.

There’s no chance for a laid-back guy like Huai Shi to appear in a place like this.

So he spent the entire time sitting coldly on the bench outside, until the door opened, the Vice President walked past with a gloomy expression, and indifferently said to Huai Shi, ”Since you want to get involved, then do it yourself.”

Then, with a flick of his sleeves, left.

Clearly dissatisfied with Huai Shi expressing opinions beyond himself, but did not stop or frighten him.

One can only say that he’s used to this type of Principal’s Secretary, the same as the Principal, and has prepared to clean up Huai Shi’s mess.

Making Huai Shi feel even more awkward and embarrassed, nodding and bowing as he saw the Vice President off, then the Yingzhou Branch Chief and Secretary.

Finally, he looked at the Special Commissioner from the Decision Room.

And her short hair that had become exceptionally neat after being cut short...

Somehow, feeling a little regret.

In the silent gaze, Huai Shi couldn’t help but sigh first.

”I think you must be wanting to ask: why is it you again?”

”Yes, indeed.”

Ai Qing scrutinized him, curiously asking, ”Haven’t you noticed, that whenever something is about to happen or trouble arises, you’re the only one who shows up so eagerly?”
