Slime Evolution

Chapter 62: 62 - Oppressive Memories

Opening the interface, Lohan saw a red glow indicating an unseen notification.

[Lisa: Good evening, Halon. I was busy dealing with a group of boars that didn’t want to die.]

[Lisa: Halon? Are you in combat? Do you need my help?]

’So that was it... it was because of the two pings I heard notifying me of her messages that I regained consciousness? But why did I lose consciousness in the first place? When I absorbed the memories of other beings, I never felt anything this intense.’

This situation was frightening.

It only served to show him that Elysium really wasn’t just a game.

Because unlike games where the player watched a cutscene and experienced the experience visually, Lohan felt that his consciousness was being affected, his real consciousness!

[Halon: Lisa, we need to talk.

[Lisa: ??????

He knew that at that moment, the only person who could help him with information about Elysium that he couldn’t get anywhere else was this little fox, so he explained.

[Halon: Here’s the thing, a few minutes ago I finished absorbing the Mana Stone that Aeliana gave me...

When his explanation was over, Lisa was silent for almost a minute, until she replied.

[Lisa: Are you at the place I left you yesterday? Wait for me, I’ll come to you right away.

Her response was not reassuring at all.

But now there was nothing he could do but try to understand his situation.

[Halon: Yes, I’m in the same place, I’ll wait for you here.

In front of him were the five strands of Mana he had woven using the new Skill.

Looking at it, Lohan felt a strong sense of familiarity, as if he had been doing this for years, even though he had only just used this skill for the first time.

’This just shows how great an influence this memory had on me...’

Curious about this, he opened the menu and read the skill’s explanation.

[Magic Weaving Lv 1] - 140 Biomass

[Allows the creation of biological threads fused with Mana. The filaments are extremely resistant and adhesive, capable of immobilizing targets and passively draining the magical energy of any living being in direct contact with the web.]

The first thing that shocked him was the price to level up this evolution.

’140 Biomass just to level up this evolution from Level 01 to Level 02?! Damn, and I spent 100 Biomass without hesitation to buy this?! Okay, after trying this out, I really feel like the biomass wasn’t wasted, but still, doing this without my consent was shitty...’

Fortunately, after reading the skill description, Lohan realized that it was an almost perfect skill for a Slime like him!

The spider depended on its abdomen and special glands to transform Mana into the biological threads it produced, but Lohan, being a Slime, didn’t depend on any of that!

He could directly transform his body’s biomass from any part of his body to produce these biological threads!

This meant that he could simultaneously shoot biological threads in all 360 degrees around him!

Sure, this was a ridiculous idea, but being able to put something like this into practice showed how well this skill suited his race.

But Lohan didn’t have the courage to test it again.

He was truly frightened by what had happened a few moments ago, so he decided to wait for Lisa’s arrival to understand it better.

And he didn’t have to wait long, Lisa wasn’t hunting monsters very far away, and as she leveled up, her speed had also increased, so the time spent running back and forth was now shorter.

When she arrived, her worried gaze didn’t leave the slime for almost a minute, until she finally confirmed that it looked exactly like itself, and she let out a sigh of relief that even she didn’t know she was holding.

Then she spoke as she looked curiously at the five small threads. ”So this is the magic web that you said was almost controlled to produce...? Explain to me again what happened to you, with all the details you can give me.”

Lohan did just that.

Lisa already knew that he needed to absorb enemies to gain new skills, so it wasn’t a big surprise to her.

But hearing that he could enter the memories of the creatures he absorbed was something new; he had never told her that before.

Even when they first met, he learned from the Goblin’s memory that she had attracted the monster specifically for him, he made up an excuse that he had discovered her intention because of his enhanced vision as a Slime, not because he had read the goblin’s memory.

But at that point it didn’t matter, the feeling of losing control of his own consciousness was so terrifying that Lohan didn’t mind giving up this little secret to her.

And although she was a little surprised by this, Lisa wasn’t upset that he had hidden such a detail from her. She hadn’t been 100% transparent with him either, still keeping some secrets of her own, while knowing that he also still hid some secrets from her.

”From what you told me, the elf said that this was a Level 11 monster’s Mana Stone, am I right?” She asked as she looked at Lohan’s ’webs’ again.

He confirmed. ”Yes... do you think the high level of the original owner of the Mana Stone was the cause of this?”

Lisa nodded. ”That’s very likely. Remember I told you that Players stay in the beginner village until level 10? From level 11 onwards, they are forced to leave there and come to the Open World. This is because when they go from level 10 to level 11, they undergo a qualitative evolution, as if their level of existence had increased by one degree. This is so powerful that in one of these evolutions, it is even possible for a Player to raise their Race level to a higher level! Although the chance of this happening is not great.”

Hearing this explanation, Lohan felt that it made a lot of sense.

Unlike the other memories he had absorbed before, the memories of this Spider really acted as if they were dominating his mind, as if he were dealing with a truly superior being!

And unlike other monsters, where he could see a clear image of their last memories, from the spider he only received vague and blurry memories, managing to understand and absorb only 20% of them.

Initially, he thought it might be because he wasn’t used to having eight eyes, but thinking about it now, it made perfect sense.

Looking at the webs it produced, Lohan confirmed that even the skill level he received was on another scale, with the initial price of 100 biomass proving this perfectly.

”Is there any danger in using this skill?” he asked worriedly.

Fortunately, the fox shook its head and replied in a deadly serious tone of voice. ”I can’t give you 100% certainty, but I believe your problem was with the memory of the Mana Stone, not with the skill you received. But my recommendation is that until you reach at least Level 10, you avoid trying to capture the memories of Level 11 creatures, and if the creatures are Level 12 or higher, don’t even consider it.”

Lohan realized the importance of this and nodded in agreement.

Seeing the sun setting, Lohan finally remembered Aeliana, who was probably waiting for him now!
