Slime Evolution

Chapter 55: 55 - Many Evolutions!

If it were anyone else in that situation, having to stay practically motionless for hours while digesting a corpse, that person might have already gone mad.

But for Lohan, it was great.

He was gaining a huge amount of Biomass, and whenever he felt bored, he would open the Evolution screen and buy some cheaper evolution, spending his time feeling the physical changes and having fun with it.

When he finished digesting a head, the notification of a new evolution would sound, which made him even more excited, and he would quickly scroll to the next corpse.

While he was at it, he also took the opportunity to search the bodies of these people for something useful, and surprisingly, he found some copper coins!

Excited, Lohan generated a small clone and, with difficulty, controlled it to search the bodies of these people even more carefully.

All in all, he had found a total of 23 copper coins!

At the current exchange rate, 1 copper coin was equivalent to $1 in the real world, meaning Lohan would need 30,000 copper coins, or 3,000 silver coins, or 300 gold coins!

Obviously, these 23 copper coins would change almost nothing in the debt he owed, but feeling the texture of those coins and thinking that this was the first money he had received in the game, a very pleasant emotion arose.

To exchange Elysium coins for real-world credits, all he had to do was open an interface in the game’s System, and that was it.

But considering that he didn’t earn this money himself, even though it would probably be worth almost nothing to someone in the High Zone, Lohan still kept it delicately inside him, being careful not to digest these coins, and waited to share them with Lisa.

She might not need this money in the real world, but while it was possible to convert game coins into real money, the opposite was impossible, so the only way to earn money in the game was by playing.

And that made these coins much more valuable than the $1 per copper coin.

From what he had seen on the internet, in some beginner villages there were large guilds that offered up to $7 for each copper coin.

’Unfortunately, I’m not in a beginner village like that...’

But he didn’t let it get him down. Finishing digesting the humans, Lohan finally looked at his Status screen.

(NunuNote: I will only show the evolutions that have undergone changes.)

[Name: Halon

Race: Slime (Mythical)

Class: Devourer (Mythical)

Level: 03

Experience: 63 / 400

Mana: 26.47 / 26.47]

[Mass Expansion Lv 7 → Lv 8]

[Reinforced Exoskeleton Lv 5 → Lv 7]

[Instinctive Perception Lv 6 → Lv 8]

[Body Density Lv 6 → Lv 7]

[Memory Resonance Lv 2 → Lv 5]

[Chemosensory Aptitude Lv 2 → Lv 5]

[Pack Instinct Lv 1 → Lv 3]

With the number of evolutions he had, there were evolutions where the cost to level up was reaching 40 bio, while others were still below 10, and it was these evolutions that he focused on.

Sure, he still bought an evolution in [Mass Expansion] since the 30% bonus based on his base digestion was very good, in addition to allowing him to store even more biomass in his body.

Even buying only the cheapest evolutions, this wave of purchases still cost more than 150 Biomass, turning Lohan, who was feeling like a rich and powerful Slime, back into a poor slime again, but even more powerful.

He had even become a little smaller because of the large consumption, but he did not let it get him down.

With the increase in the level of [Memory Resonance] from Lv 2 to Lv 5, by digesting the minds of these humans, Lohan was able to obtain clearer memories from their minds, but with the level still low, Lohan could only see the last memories before they died, with each level upgrade further increasing the distance he could see.

Unfortunately, the gains that the other humans brought were disappointing.

The three evolutions he received were practically useless, at least for his current stage.

[Affinity with Heavy Weapons]

[The organism assimilates the muscle memory and coordination necessary to wield axes and large impact weapons more easily. Improves balance and leverage when handling objects with weight concentrated at one end.]

This skill was gained from the human warrior, and yes, it was a Skill, not an Evolution.

Like [Ice Spike], this Skill did not have an option to spend Biomass to evolve further, and considering that Lohan didn’t even use weapons, it was practically useless.

[Static Shadow]

[The organism can alter its pigmentation and density to become indistinguishable from a common shadow, as long as it remains completely motionless. The camouflage effect is instantly broken when performing any movement greater than 0.5 cm.]

This was also a skill that, despite seeming useless, was at least useful for improving his efficiency when using [Pigmentation Mimicry], giving him various insights into better ways to control this skill.

The last one, despite being an evolution rather than a skill, which could be improved with Biomass investment, was not something that would drastically change how he acted now.

[Monocular Telescopic Vision Lv 1]

[Allows you to focus your visual perception on a single point at a long distance, reducing your peripheral field of vision in exchange for an optical zoom. Makes it easier to identify static targets at over 200 meters.]

When testing this skill for the first time, Lohan felt no side effects.

’Maybe because my vision is 360 degrees? So the skill can’t narrow my peripheral vision because I don’t have any?

Without the side effect, this skill was the best of the three and could become very good in the future, but for now, the change it brought was not very significant.

It wasn’t a huge change, but Lohan felt much more confident and excited to explore and fight.

The current problem was...

Was Lisa calmer?

Not knowing how to react, Lohan did the only thing he could think of: he acted as if nothing had happened.
