In such a situation, it was difficult to look for the Hidden Realms.

Although the Peerless Continent was broken, it was still expansive. Without the correct method, looking for the Hidden Realms was like trying to pick up a needle from an ocean.

In the stone room, Lu Ye remained silent while Ying Wuji was anxious.

Xu Wang sent a signal to Zui Shan, who only nodded almost imperceptibly.

He had gone looking for Zui Shan earlier and told him everything he knew about Lu Ye and Ying Wuji, especially Lu Ye’s mastery of the Way of Wards.

If they could make such a person join the base, their safety would be greatly enhanced. Therefore, he asked Zui Shan to persuade the two of them to stay in the base.

However, after Zui Shan found out that they were looking for the Hidden Realms, he cast the idea away.

These two men were ambitious, so it was only natural that they wanted to join one of the Hidden Realms. They certainly wouldn’t be interested in a small base like theirs. Even if Zui Shan came up with such a request, his wish wouldn’t be granted.

As such, he decided not to embarrass himself.

“Do you have a map of this world?” Lu Ye suddenly asked.

Zui Shan shook his head. “The world broke apart over 1,000 years ago. The inheritances of many Sects were disrupted. The Humans have been hiding and struggling to survive. Many people have never left their bases from their birth to their death. Even cultivators like us don’t go to faraway places. If you want a map of a radius of 10,000 kilometres around this area, I have it. But if you want a map of this world, it’s probably only found in the Hidden Realms.”

Basically, they had nothing that Lu Ye wanted.

He only nodded slightly. Since he had already expected it, he wasn’t disappointed.

“Well, please get some rest. If there’s anything you need, just come looking for me.”

Since Zui Shan couldn’t make them join the base, there wasn’t a need to look into their background. Therefore, he didn’t want to stay there any longer.

From his perspective, these two men were just guests. Since they had saved Yuan Xiang’s life, those from the base just had to treat them well. Perhaps they would leave at any moment.

As soon as Zui Shan got to his feet, a buzz was suddenly heard coming from above. Even the stone room shook. It seemed that some people were fighting above the ground.

Zui Shan’s expression changed as Xu Wang exclaimed, “Oh, no! The Grand Ward has been launched!”

Under normal circumstances, the Grand Ward outside the base wouldn’t be launched. It was activated earlier to deal with Lu Ye and Ying Wuji, but it wasn’t launched.

It was difficult to build a Grand Ward in this era. Therefore, a Grand Ward was only used to intimidate the enemies. It wouldn’t be launched unless they had no other choice.

Moreover, once it was launched, there would be a loud noise, which might expose the location of their base.

Since the Grand Ward had been set in motion, it showed that the people guarding the Grand Ward had come across a terrible situation.

Both shocked and furious, they turned to look at Lu Ye and Ying Wuji at once.

From their perspective, the base had been safe for over ten years. However, not long after the two of them arrived, the Grand Ward was launched. Naturally, they couldn’t help but think that the two of them might be scouts who had attracted their enemies to this place.

Realising what was on their minds, Ying Wuji hurriedly said, “It has nothing to do with us!”

After giving it some thought, Zui Shan nodded. “I’m sorry for losing my composure.”

Regardless of whether the incident had something to do with the two of them, a conflict couldn’t be broken out in the base, for many commoners lived there. Once they got into a fight, the commoners couldn’t bear the repercussions of the battle.

The noise from outside shocked the people in the base.

Many cultivators left the stone rooms and came together. The atmosphere was intense and solemn, but none of them backed down.

The commoners quickly gathered in one place. Although they were apprehensive, they didn’t scream or cry.

It was apparent that they had learned how to survive in this chaotic era. At the very least, they wouldn’t panic regardless of what happened.

“Please stay here, Elder Xu. I’ll bring some people and go out there to have a look,” Zui Shan said and left the stone room. Before he could gather some people, a blood-soaked sword-holding young man darted into the base. He was Wu Jun, whom Yuan Xiang called ‘Big Brother Wu’.

He had lost one arm, and blood was streaming from his wound. There was blood on his face as well. When he saw Zui Shan, he hurriedly said, “Commander, it’s the Pure Land!”

“Are you sure it’s them?” Zui Shan’s eyes dilated.

The cultivators behind Zui Shan were suddenly anxious.

The Pure Land wasn’t a Sect. Apart from the Sects with complete inheritances in the three Hidden Realms, there were no more Sects in this world. Only bases of different scales were left.

The Pure Land was the name of one of the larger bases. Although the name sounded righteous, they were a group of notorious people.

That was because they would attack bases that were weaker than them so that they could snatch the people away to strengthen themselves.

There was a saying among the bases that they would rather come across Corpse Race members than those from the Pure Land.

At the very least, Corpse Race members were their obvious enemies. If they couldn’t defeat them, they would be killed.

However, those from the Pure Land were a bunch of maniacs. Once they fell into their hands, they would be tortured.

Moreover, those from the Pure Land were Humans. If they put on some disguise, no one could see through their identity.

Additionally, the cultivators from the Pure Land were generally powerful. They seemed to have cultivated an evil technique that would allow them to absorb other people’s Spiritual Powers to strengthen themselves. Therefore, they were fervent about attacking the other bases.

By doing so, they could snatch the resources they needed away and abduct the cultivators for their own cultivation.

Initially, Zui Shan intended to bring some people and go out there to have a look. Upon learning that the attackers were from the Pure Land, he cast that idea away. Given their heritage, there was no way they were a match for them.

Certainly, Humans were resentful of the Corpse Race, but their hatred for a great force like the Pure Land was even more intense.

Regardless of the time or the location, people who still turned on their own kind when the Humans were struggling to survive wouldn’t be welcomed.

“How did they find us?” Zui Shan was puzzled.

With a dejected expression, Wu Jun replied, “I saw Xiao Wu among them…”

Only then did Zui Shan understand what happened.

Xiao Wu was a member of the base. Previously, he left the base to look for resources along with the others. It had been a month since he was missing, and no one knew if he was dead or alive.

Such an incident was common in this era. They believed that he must’ve come across some Corpse Race members, so they could only feel sorry for him.

Now, it was apparent that he had bumped into those people from the Pure Land, not Corpse Race members.

There must have been inhumane torture and interrogation, so it was only natural that the base’s location was exposed.

Zui Shan immediately understood that the incident had nothing to do with the two guests. They happened to visit their base just as those from the Pure Land came attacking them.

“Elder Xu, do a roll call and escort them out of the base through the secret passageway,” Zui Shan ordered.

Xu Wang quickly dipped his head. “Yes.”

Zui Shan then told several cultivators to step forward. “Come with me to stop them.”

There were many commoners in the base. Although they had a secret passageway, they were unable to leave quickly. Therefore, some people must stay back to fend off the enemies. Even though there were many Wards in the cavern that Xu Wang had set up, it was still risky for them to remain there.

Despite understanding that fully well, those whose names were called determinedly stepped forward.

In the stone room, Lu Ye and Ying Wuji watched everything in silence.

Ying Wuji couldn’t help but remark, “The people in this base are pretty united.”

Zui Shan must have been a respectable leader, which was why everyone obeyed his orders at such a critical moment.

“You’ll stay here,” Lu Ye ordered and shuffled forward.

“What?” Ying Wuji was startled for a moment. When he came to his senses, he muttered furiously, “Why do I have to do all the hard work? Does he seriously think he’s my Senior Brother?”

When they found the dilapidated city, Lu Ye told him to collect some information. Now, he was even asked to stay there to ward off the enemies, which was outrageous.

[Lu Ye has crossed the line! When he needs me, he’ll just give me orders; when he doesn’t need me, he isn’t even willing to speak to me. He only stares at me in silence, mounting pressure on me!]

Despite his displeasure, Ying Wuji didn’t have the heart to abandon these people.

The reaction of Zui Shan and the others showed that it was difficult to deal with those from the Pure Land. As a Ghost Cultivator, he was best-suited to stay there and fend off the enemies.

His figure soon faded and disappeared.

Meanwhile, Lu Ye approached Xu Wang, who was instructing everyone to leave through the secret passageway. He cut to the chase, saying, “If you trust me, I can stay at the head to protect everyone.”

Xu Wang stared at him for a moment before gritting his teeth. “Thanks, Little Friend.”

Lu Ye nodded and shuffled into the secret passageway.

Xu Wang sent a signal to some of the stronger cultivators, who immediately followed Lu Ye. They had activated their Spiritual Powers, ready to deal a heavy blow to the enemies.

Regardless of whether Lu Ye had anything to do with the Pure Land, they could let him stay at the head to fight the enemies. That said, Xu Wang had other arrangements lest they were set up.

In this apocalyptic era, it was hard to find out the true nature of people. Even an innocent young woman like Yuan Xiang wouldn’t readily believe anyone, let alone a shrewd old man like Xu Wang.

In fact, there was more than one secret passageway in the base. They were in different directions and led to different places. That way, they could always ensure that they had a way out.

If there weren’t a way out when the enemies came attacking their base, they would have no choice but to fight the enemies to death.

It would be wonderful if they could defeat the enemies. If they couldn’t, they would be doomed. That was one of the ways for them to survive.

The passageway was narrow, allowing only three people to move forward shoulder-to-shoulder. It was meandering and had many routes.

With Xu Wang giving instructions from behind, Lu Ye just had to keep going forward. He walked slowly so that the commoners behind him could keep pace with him.

Despite that, the commoners had to run to keep up with him. The elderly people and kids needed the help of the cultivators. Otherwise, they would fall behind.

Meanwhile, Zui Shan and the others appeared solemn in the cavern.

Following a long laugh, a person stepped into the cavern. His violent and evil aura gave off a discomforting feeling.

When Zui Shan saw that person, he felt his heart sinking. He immediately realised that the enemy was formidable.
