After waiting for a while, Ying Wuji received no response. He asked again, but there was still no reply. Following several attempts, he couldn’t help but doubt if the transmission stone was usable at all.

Just as he was about to keep it, he suddenly looked around and appeared embarrassed. He clenched the transmission stone and whispered, “Blood Flows on Infinitely.”

He then waited for ten breaths of time. “Liar!” he snarled, fuming deep within.

Lu Ye had promised to save him when he shouted ‘Blood Flows on Infinitely!’. The man was nowhere in sight when he wasn’t in danger. If he was indeed faced with a crisis, he would be dead by the time the man arrived.

[It seems that I can’t rely on anyone.] Just as Ying Wuji was ready to keep the transmission stone, he suddenly felt a vibration.

He quickly activated the transmission stone and heard Lu Ye’s voice. “In the Southeast!”

He looked around for a while, and upon identifying the direction, he quickly charged forward. Soon, he saw Lu Ye. What surprised him was that there was a young woman by Lu Ye’s side.

[Is she a local cultivator?] Ying Wuji’s eyes brightened.

Lu Ye had wanted to look for local cultivators to collect information. Certainly, the thought had turned over in Ying Wuji’s mind as well. Unfortunately, he hadn’t come across anyone else in the past day. Much to his surprise, there was one young woman there.

He couldn’t help but take a longer look at the young woman, who bashfully hid behind Lu Ye. “Senior Brother, who is he?”

Although Lu Ye appeared icy and distant, his actions showed that he wasn’t a bad person. On the other hand, Ying Wuji was different. As a Ghost Cultivator, he was used to being stealthy. As such, the young woman felt that he wasn’t a good person, considering his behaviour.

“He’s my Junior Brother,” Lu Ye replied. “We come from the same place.”

Ying Wuji couldn’t help rolling his eyes, but he didn’t refute him. It wasn’t like he would lose an ounce of flesh by letting Lu Ye claim to be the Senior Brother. Their most important task at hand was to gather some useful information.

“I see.” Only then did the young woman set her mind at ease.

“I haven’t asked what your name is,” Lu Ye said.

The young woman replied, “I am Yuan Xiang. What’s your name, Senior Brother?”

Lu Ye instinctively wanted to tell her he was Ye Six, but he decided against it after giving it some thought. If he came across other people from Jiu Zhou and they called him a different name, the young woman might misunderstand something.

“I am Lu Yi Ye, and my Junior Brother’s name is Ying Wuji.”

Ying Wuji saluted her politely. “Greetings, Junior Sister Yuan Xiang.”

Yuan Xiang saluted him back.

“Is there anything you need to pack up?” Lu Ye asked the young woman.

Yuan Xiang shook her head. She had packed up everything, and she couldn’t bring the bones back.

“Let’s go, then,” Lu Ye said.

They then set off on their journey as Yuan Xiang led the way.

Soon, Ying Wuji found out what had happened. He couldn’t help but think that Lu Ye was truly lucky. He took a huge risk to sneak into the city, but he couldn’t find anything useful in the end. On the other hand, Lu Ye was waiting outside the city when he came across several local cultivators who were in danger. He had even saved the damsel in distress!

It couldn’t be said Yuan Xiang trusted Lu Ye, but at the very least, she wasn’t repelled by or vigilant against him. Ying Wuji wondered what Lu Ye had done.

Now, it could be said that he and Lu Ye were escorting the young woman to the base.

“Junior Sister Yuan Xiang,” Lu Ye suddenly said while on their way. “If it’s alright for you, please tell us the current situation in the Peerless Continent.”

Ying Wuji was all ears at once.

“What do you want to know, Senior Brother Lu?” Yuan Xiang still hadn’t recovered from the loss of her loved ones. She quickly pulled herself together upon hearing Lu Ye’s words.

“Anything. My Junior Brother and I have just ventured into the outside world, so we know nothing. We’d never even seen Corpse Race members before.”

Ying Wuji nodded repeatedly. “That’s right. Both of us have been living in a remote place, and we’ve never come into contact with the outside world before. Our Honoured Master had raised us well over the years. It wasn’t until he passed away a month ago that we left the place.”

Lu Ye turned his head and shot him a look, thinking that this guy was good at drawing attention to himself.

Ying Wuji looked defiantly at him.

After a moment of silence, Yuan Xiang replied gently, “I don’t actually know much, so I’ll just tell you the things I know. If there’s anything you want to know, just ask me right away.”

She then began narrating the tale. “It is said that the Peerless Continent used to be a prosperous land. There were countless powerless cultivators in the cultivation world.”

Upon hearing that, Lu Ye couldn’t help but recall Soaring Dragon Boundary.

It seemed that the situation in this place was similar to Soaring Dragon Boundary, where there used to be Divine Ocean Realm Masters. Due to Blood Boundary’s attachment, the World’s Source was depleting as the cultivators gradually weakened over the generations.

However, Lu Ye soon found out that the situations in both worlds were different.

“However, since the Divine Transformation 1,000 years ago, everything has changed. At that time, the Peerless Continent suddenly broke into many pieces. Some people said the world itself had changed. There were also those who said some powerful cultivators got into a battle in the sky, and the repercussions shattered the Peerless Continent. I don’t know how big the Peerless Continent originally was, but the place we live in now is only a fragment of the Continent. During the Divine Transformation, many powerful cultivators suddenly detonated and died while the survivors saw their Realms plunging. Since then, there have never been cultivators who are above the Cloud River Realm.”

Ying Wuji’s expression changed while Lu Ye furrowed his brows.

It wasn’t until this moment that Lu Ye understood what the broken Peerless Continent actually meant. The meaning was literal. The land they stood on was only a fragment of the Peerless Continent.

As for why the Continent had fallen apart, no one had any idea since a long time had passed. As such, what Yuan Xiang had said was merely the speculation of the descendants.

The reason the Heavens had chosen the powerful cultivators in the Fight for Supremacy like them was that only Cloud River Realm Masters could handle this problem.

Every world had its limit. Therefore, even if the Heavens sent some Divine Ocean Realm Masters and Real Lake Realm Masters to this place, their powers would be reduced to the Cloud River Realm.

As such, it’d be better to send some Cloud River Realm Masters over. At the very least, they could fully activate their powers in this world without being suppressed.

Moreover, the Heavens must have paid a price to send them to this place. The price wouldn’t be big if some Cloud River Realm Masters were sent to this place, but the same couldn’t be said for Real Lake Realm Masters and Divine Ocean Realm Masters.

“The world came apart, and countless people lost their lives. Even the cultivators were unable to save themselves in such a crisis. Fortunately, the influence of the Divine Transformation subsided several years later, and the Peerless Continent also became stable. But soon, another crisis broke out. It is because of this crisis that Humans are only left with a small number of places to live.”

“The Corpse Race?” Lu Ye naturally understood what crisis she was talking about.

Yuan Xiang nodded. “Before the Divine Transformation, there had never been a Race as eerie as the Corpse Race in the Peerless Continent. However, a few years after the Divine Transformation, the first Corpse Race member appeared. At that time, the cultivators only thought that the person had suffered from cultivation dissonance or a strange illness, so not much commotion had been caused. They were trying to rebuild the world, so all the Sects and Families were cleaning up the mess. But gradually, more and more Corpse Race members appeared. They were originally Humans. Although their bodies were the same as when they were alive, they no longer had their memories. It was as though strange souls were born in their bodies. Corpse Race members were powerful and bizarre. The Humans had no experience in dealing with them before. Many Sects were destroyed overnight, and many cities were raided. In the following 1,000 years, the Corpse Race members have almost dominated the Peerless Continent. Humans like us can only hide in the bases and struggle to survive. We still have some living space now, but if this goes on…”

The light had gone out of Yuan Xiang’s eyes. As he recalled the deceased Uncle Yu and Aunt Shen, she felt mournful.

After a moment of silence, Lu Ye asked, “Are there different types of Corpse Race members? I’ve come across two types of Corpse Race members. The one who attacked all of you is one type, and the other type is able to control corpses.”

“Are you talking about those rotten corpses?”

“Yes.”

“There are indeed two types of Corpse Race members. One type can control rotten corpses. They aren’t so powerful themselves, but the corpses can combine their forces, and they’re hidden among the corpses, so it’s difficult to find them. The other type is the one you’ve seen. They’re more like zombies. They’re generally more powerful than rotten corpses, but if one is powerful enough, he can deal with them. Therefore, if you bump into a group of rotten corpses in the future, run immediately. Don’t even think about going against them.”

Another rule of living in this apocalyptic era was not to fight groups of corpses. That was a terrible idea. On the other hand, if the cultivators came across zombies, they would try to kill them.

Ying Wuji had experienced it first-hand, so he nodded repeatedly. However, when he recalled how Lu Ye was able to destroy the leader of the corpses on his own, he couldn’t help feeling melancholic. He wondered if the difference in power between them was that huge.

“So, do all Humans in the Peerless Continent stay in the bases now?” Lu Ye asked.

Yuan Xiang nodded. “Most of us are. Strictly speaking, the place where you used to live could be considered a base as well. Perhaps your Honoured Master protected you very well, so he didn’t let you know what was going on in the outside world.”

It was extremely difficult for Humans in the bases to survive. They needed to put food on the table, and cultivators needed cultivation resources.

They had left their base this time to look for some resources. A team like this would head out once a month. Only by doing so could they ensure they had enough resources to survive. As for cultivation resources, that depended on their luck.

If they were lucky, they might find some. If they were unlucky, they wouldn’t get anything.
