Cleaver Of Sin

Chapter 1208: Blood Is The Wine Of War And Carnage Its Feast

lBack at the battlefield, a couple of kilometers away from the Algorith Frontier, Soldiers from the two sides had already experienced various casualties, both sides having Soldiers who had lost their limbs but were still going, some twitching on the ground as their life faded from their eyes, some choking on their own blood as they held their split throats, some simply split in half as their internal organs scattered beneath them while they lay on the ground.

It didn’t matter if it was man or woman, it didn’t matter if the Soldier was just a boy who had just awakened, it didn’t matter whether they had black skin or jade-like skin, on a battlefield, in a war, all that mattered was life and death, and who won, nothing else.

War was an unforgiving event. Just over two million people fighting had painted the battlefield with so much carnage, the choking smell of blood and floating blood mists replacing oxygen molecules in the air as each breath that Soldiers took in filled their lungs with the immense stench of blood, the smell reaching their taste buds as they could literally taste the metallic substance just by breathing.

Smoke, dust, and grime filled the air and space, making it hard to breathe on a battlefield, but due to their supernatural Physiques, none died from asphyxiation, so they kept going, they couldn’t hold their breaths in a moment like this, but very soon they would, as nobody, no matter how supernatural their Physique was, could escape the fact that, at the end of the day, biology reigned supreme.

Yes, most of them could hold their breaths for one or two hours normally, but on a battlefield where their hearts, muscles, organs, and entire bodies needed blood and oxygen to function, they didn’t dare hold their breaths.

Soldiers’ armours were torn apart by weapons, skills, weapon techniques, abilities, Astra Energy, explosions, yet these armours saved their lives countless times from random arrows piercing their heads as they fought another enemy. Their vambraces saved their forearms and palms countless times over, as the value of armour in war simply couldn’t be overstated.

Not everyone could be Damian, Azaron, Malrik, or Asher, who walked around without armour. They were just Soldiers who were barely above others in terms of talent.

One moment, Soldiers from both sides were having a nice time, some of them enjoying themselves with the opposite gender, some training, some just chilling, some sleeping, some just staring into the sun and gazing at the beautiful sky, yet it didn’t take more than one moment for hell to descend.

A sword slash didn’t care if you were the only son of your family who was supposed to continue the family. A fireball didn’t care if you were a jade beauty. An earth spike didn’t care if you were some Noble, princess, or prince who was hiding their identity. A stab to the heart didn’t care if you were your family’s only child or your mother’s favourite child among your siblings, everyone shall bleed in war.

Blood is the wine of war, and carnage its feast.

In a battle like this, both sides didn’t need to look at the emblem on the left side of each other’s breastplate, as that was how enemies were usually distinguished from allies, but here, they used skin colours, as nobody had the time to look at anyone’s chest to investigate.

A Black man looks at you and you aren’t black? Die!

A White man looks at you and you are black? Die!

It wasn’t a racial war, as there was no racism nor racial war throughout history, but at the moment, it was simply the fastest way to identify an enemy. It was just that simple.

After battles like these, one would think that Soldiers would hate the other Empire to the core, but no. Give any of these Soldiers the chance, and they would pack their bags and head to the other Empire on vacation the next day.

”DIE!!!”

A Soldier from the Velkarin Empire rushed towards a woman from the Algorith Frontier, whose helmet had just saved her from an arrow.

The female Soldier immediately turned at the shout, and she immediately raised a sword and blocked the overhead swing. Their swords met with a heavy clanging sound. The woman felt the force travel down her body, the earth beneath her feet sinking in and shattering for ten meters.

The man put more force into his sword, trying to force her to her knee, but she pushed back through sheer adrenaline, forcing the man to stagger backwards. She panted as she created a distance between herself and her opponent. Her Astra Energy was nearly depleted, as she had been using it from the very beginning.

As the Soldier rushed towards her once more, the last minuscule of Astra Energy she had left hummed from her, and the next moment, what seemed like a bubble formed around the black man. Before he could even slash at it, the woman raised him into the sky, raising him higher and higher, as if she dropped him from something a hundred meters high, the man would simply land on his two feet and survive with ease.

After getting to an appropriate height, she deactivated her ability, and with that, the man plummeted from the sky. He couldn’t save himself, as he had no more Astra Energy. He screamed at the top of his lungs, wishing and praying for one of his fellow Soldiers to see him and save him, but alas, in a battlefield where the sounds of thousands of screams, weapons colliding, constant explosions, and the likes echoed every single split second, how could this man’s scream reach anyone?

His body hit the ground with a sickening sound, his bones and organs crushed as he died on the spot.

As the woman was about to turn around and check if anyone was aiming at her, as she was on the defensive since she had no stamina or Astra Energy left, it was useless, as the next moment, two daggers sank into her neck through the gap between her breastplate and helmet.

The Soldier’s body became visible as his ability was invisibility. As he was about to turn around, channel Astra Energy, and head to his next opponent, an arrow tore through his brain with ease. His body stiffened before he dropped to the ground with a dull thud.

As he dropped to the ground, another Soldier stepped on his head as he marched towards his enemy with determination in his eyes.

This was war, one moment you could be ending your own opponent, and the next, a random opponent would use that opportunity and brief window to end you in return.

In another direction, two women were exchanging rapid blows, their swords blurring as they aimed at each other’s vitals. They both possessed black skin tones, as they were from the Velkarin Empire. They were on the same side, yet they fought fiercely like mortal enemies.

The answer was that both of them were simply under an illusion. They saw each other as Soldiers from the Algorith Frontier, so they pushed each other to the brink. The Soldier who had them under an illusion simply waited for an opening to end them, as he wasn’t as strong as these crazy women.
