Realized Game: I Hoarded 10 Billion Defense Towers

Chapter 57: Chapter 54: Skeleton Lair and Golden Guardian

”Killing people drops items? This doesn’t make sense!”

As the Celestial Horse flew back swiftly, all sorts of doubts filled Shen Fei’s mind. He knew that in the later stages of game ability inheritance, when a certain version was released, it was indeed possible for enemies to drop items when killed. But Shen Fei also knew that the probability of this happening was extremely low—so low, in fact, that it was only a one-in-ten-thousand chance. No one would bother with such a thankless task as killing people for loot.

He had just killed seven or eight foreigners causing trouble at the airport and another three game ability inheritors in the underground garage. Shen Fei hadn’t expected that he would get a material drop: the [Source of the Skull Nest].

He didn’t understand. Was he just lucky, or had the drop rate from killing people actually increased? What surprised him even more was that the timing for item drops was all wrong. The game ability inheritance had only just begun—not even two hours had passed! Items shouldn’t be dropping at this point!

Right now, the game ability inheritance wasn’t even complete. Everyone, including the Earth itself, had yet to be fully digitized! It should be impossible for things to drop!

What kind of change have I caused? What did that instant Version 4.1 update from before really mean?!

The item he’d just obtained filled Shen Fei’s heart with questions. He was, of course, familiar with the so-called [Skull Nest] material. In the future, after the game ability inheritance was complete, a version would be released that allowed people to continue leveling up in the real world. The [Skull Nest] itself was a structure that, once built, could spawn Skeleton Monsters, creating a treasure trove for people to level up and farm for materials. A Skull Nest was a special, man-made item built near a Base City for people to grind levels.

Although the ”Skull Nest” couldn’t be used yet, Shen Fei knew its function.

After pondering the version update and the ”Skull Nest” for a moment, Shen Fei turned his attention to the Soldier Chess Piece Uncle Sun had given him.

Uncle Sun had been incredibly lucky, inheriting two chess pieces in the very first wave. Moreover, they were identical pieces that could perform a Combined Technique. Shen Fei hadn’t expected that at all.

Watching the Golden Guardian materialize from the Soldier Chess Piece, he saw it could act as a close-quarters bodyguard with astonishingly high Defense Power. A surge of happiness washed over Shen Fei.

As a Tower Master who fought using Defense Towers, his other assets like a butler, a Tower-Carrying Beast, and his Crystal had not yet been inherited. Because of this, his own body was currently very weak.

Through the last few battles, he had already determined that his Defense Towers were Invincible. A single Tenth Tier Defense Tower was enough to instantly kill most people. But while his Defense Towers were Invincible, that didn’t mean he himself was.

Right now, before he had inherited his Crystal, his own body was essentially the tower’s Crystal. If his body was destroyed, the tower would be destroyed with it!

That was why, before his Crystal was inherited into reality and fused with his body to grant him immense health and Defense Power, his strategy was to remain as low-key as possible. His body was simply too fragile at the moment.

However, the Soldier Chess Piece from Uncle Sun perfectly solved this problem. The Golden Guardian would not move more than ten meters away from him and could even sacrifice itself to save his life.

Shen Fei understood that with the Golden Guardian’s protection, he could avoid being taken out by a single, decisive blow. His personal safety had instantly increased hundreds of times over.

It’s perfect. Yu and I are both Tower Masters, so we can each take one Soldier! After the next inheritance wave tomorrow, Uncle Sun will get something new anyway! Besides, when Dad gets his chess pieces, we can give one of them to Uncle Sun...

Clutching the golden Soldier Chess Piece, Shen Fei decided not to give it back to Uncle Sun. This item was far too useful to him. Until his father inherited his own Soldier Chess Piece and he could get his hands on it, he was commandeering Uncle Sun’s.

He knew Uncle Sun would be more than happy with this arrangement, as his uncle would never ask for a gift back. Besides, he would be providing protection for Uncle Sun from now on. By giving the chess pieces to him and Yu, Uncle Sun had ensured their own safety, which in turn meant he would be well-protected.

Uncle Sun is safe. Now, I just have to wait for the second wave of inheritance tomorrow. After a week, once all the Defense Towers are inherited, I’ll choose to inherit my Crystal and skills. That way, my body won’t be so fragile...

Riding the Celestial Horse as it sped back, Shen Fei reviewed the [Source of the Skull Nest] and the Soldier Chess Piece he had obtained from the airport, pondering his next steps.

Aside from waiting for the game ability inheritance to continue, his next step was to go online and check on everyone else’s situation. Version 4.1 had been updated ahead of schedule, and he had prematurely gained the ability for kills to drop items. He needed to get online and find out what other changes had occurred. Clearly, his butterfly effect had altered something.

Also, now that his own game abilities had begun to inherit smoothly, he still had to deal with the members of the Heaven-Reaching Gang in their QQ group. More than two hours had passed since the game ability inheritance began, and the fan group had already exploded with activity. Seeing that Shen Fei wasn’t replying to messages, some people were even starting to guess that he was already dead. But Shen Fei was genuinely too busy to reply. He knew that if he posted even a single word, he’d get stuck in a long conversation. Therefore, he didn’t dare say anything in the Heaven-Reaching Gang fan group until he had some free time.

RING! RING! RING!

As he was speeding home on the Celestial Horse, Shen Fei’s phone suddenly rang. The moment the call connected, he heard the panicked cries of his sister, Shen Yue.

”Brother! Brother! Something’s happened! Someone broke into the house again! Auntie Yi has been paralyzed! Where are you? Hurry back!”

”What!?”

Shen Fei didn’t understand at first. Before he left, hadn’t he enveloped the family villa with his Mist Tower? Without some extraordinary ability, it should have been impossible for anyone to enter their villa. Unless...

”Run to the green Healing Tower! Wait for me! I’m on my way!”

After a few more words with Shen Yue, Shen Fei understood what had happened.

Uncle Yi! The same Uncle Yi who had secretly bought up the Shen Family’s shares, planning to backstab his father. That very same Uncle Yi, who acted like his father’s sworn brother, had come to their villa.

And his father had welcomed him inside. As a result, a loophole had appeared in the otherwise flawless protection of the Mist Tower. With this vulnerability, the tower could no longer provide perfect defense, allowing someone to quietly infiltrate the Shen Family’s villa. Realizing something was wrong, Shen Yue had immediately called him in a panic.
