Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2322: Chapter 2317: Checklist (4)

Oh... not too late after all.

Although it looks unremarkable, the car’s condition is undoubtedly good.

Fu Qian listened to the engine’s sound, completely unaffected by the sudden progress, in terms of the speed of travel.

He was just wondering how to address the old gentleman, and now, not only did he have help with that, but he was also directly given the final collection condition.

This collection condition even matched the name of this collected item somewhat.

Wish of Oblivion, the list of final wishes... although not perfectly neat.

Additionally, trying to make up for life’s regrets in one’s final moments is human nature and matches the old gentleman’s demeanor and mental state.

It’s just unclear why they had to give the driver such clothes too.

Indeed, Fu Qian believed that his role in this incident, this set of clothes was probably newly made.

The judgment basis, aside from its newness, was that Mr. Cardon Sr.’s clothes seemed less new.

The style was consistent, but his clothes clearly showed more signs of wear, which would suggest that maintaining uniformity was a specific request.

There’s even the gun on his body, such an overly fancy weapon looks quite fitting with the old gentleman’s attire.

And a Mid-level Extraordinary possessing such a dangerous object is evidently much more reasonable than an ordinary person.

Next, perhaps let’s see what kind of items are on this old gentleman’s final wish list.

Of course, there’s a minor issue here, knowing the old gentleman’s name, but what about mine?

”You’re driving much better than the last... Anke.”

Fu Qian had no objections to the route guidance, and Mr. Cardon Sr.’s voice continued to come from behind.

...

Why is none of this surprising?

Faced with the old gentleman’s cooperative demeanor, Fu Qian sighed inwardly at that moment.

Anke... the reuse of elements from the warehouse is getting more and more extensive.

When noticing the altered features earlier, there was already a vague premonition, and as expected, the name part is the same.

Although not using the real name, it is still directly lifted from the existing.

”Thank you, maybe I’m more adept at driving at night.”

Despite the grumbles, Fu Qian did not forget to thank Mr. Cardon Sr. for his recognition.

”Oh... you should have emphasized this talent during the interview and asked me for higher compensation.”

Even though he was just stating a fact, it brought a moment of pause to Cardon’s expression.

His eyes were still murky and cloudy, but they seemed slightly bigger when glancing over in the darkness, and the old gentleman’s appraisal was indeed impressive.

So, was he indeed hired by someone? The more strange this story sounds.

This person seems well-off and has an air of a wealthy aristocrat, yet he needed to hire someone for his final wish list journey?

Although the praise wasn’t exceptionally high, for Fu Qian, a lot more things were confirmed at once.

He wasn’t just temporarily hired, there was an interview selection process too.

Honestly, given the previous task, such terms tend to sound a bit ominous.

”Thank you for the reminder, noted.”

Even so, the old gentleman’s behavior of imparting life lessons regardless of his own interests was appreciated by Fu Qian, who immediately expressed his gratitude for learning something new.

And saying these words seemed to have consumed quite the energy, for Cardon, after a moment of silence, directly began to rest with his eyes closed.

Until Fu Qian slowed the vehicle down, he spoke no more.

...

Under the starry sky, only one vehicle quietly traversed.

”Continue driving, pass the bridge ahead.”

As Fu Qian smoothly turned the car onto a small path, the instructions from behind finally came once more.

One could clearly see through the rearview mirror that the old gentleman still had his eyes closed, exuding an air full of confidence regarding the route.

Even though there had been a mishap earlier.

On the return route, Fu Qian indeed saw a yard resembling a motel, not far from where the car previously broke down.

One could only say the old gentleman had a precise grasp on the distance, making it a suitable choice for parking and refueling.

Unfortunately, human plans are no match for heaven’s will; the entire place had clearly been abandoned for a long time, while not dilapidated, its white exterior walls were covered in mold.

It could only be said the flavor of an eventual homecoming was getting stronger, perhaps the old gentleman was familiar with these places, but nothing had been updated since a certain point in time.

”You can stop now.”

Of course, the previous setback did not hinder his current confidence.

It was only when they crossed a stone bridge that Cardon opened his eyes amidst the sound of water, examining the front and eventually pointing to a place for Fu Qian to stop.

Ahead lay a smaller settlement of merely a few dozen households, with the spot Cardon pointed at being one of the orange-red roofed buildings.

”Would you like to join?”

When the car finally stopped, he seemed to rejuvenate noticeably, adjusted himself, and got out of the car.

Watching the lights ahead, Cardon didn’t forget his manners, specially extending a polite invitation to the driver.

”Sure.”

The driver didn’t stand on ceremony; instead, he instantly responded and got out of the car.

Helping to fulfill a final wish list sounds like a simple matter of providing end-of-life care.

But based on rich task experience, Fu Qian believed the likelihood of it being a straightforward task remained low.

Besides, it was hard to refuse Mr. Cardon Sr.’s enthusiasm in sharing life experiences earlier.

...

Upon disembarking, even adjusting his attire in imitation of the driver, Cardon, though silent, appeared deeply moved for ambiguous reasons, giving Fu Qian a profound look before stepping forward to knock on the door.

”Who are you looking for?”

That was when the saying ”clothes make the man” showed its meaning, as the person who opened the door was evidently startled but carefully asked upon seeing the well-dressed old gentleman.

”Lucy?”

And as his gaze landed on the woman at the door, the old gentleman uttered a name.

She was a woman with curly chestnut hair, looking somewhat aged, but still much younger than the old gentleman.

”Cardon? How do you...”

With the old gentleman’s call, the woman’s brows furrowed rapidly, and after giving him an up-and-down glance, she suddenly covered her mouth.

Tsk tsk... their engrossed manner was indeed prone to evoking imaginations.

As one of the spectators, Fu Qian sighed inwardly while looking at the long table filled with food and drink through the open door.

”Yes... I remember you once invited me to see the cat you were raising?”

But the duo’s self-absorbed moment continued, with the old gentleman nodding to acknowledge his identity and offering a rather awkward excuse.

”...but that cat died decades ago.”

”That’s fine.”
