Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2321: Chapter 2316: Inventory (3)

There’s actually a gun.

Obviously it’s not Mercy; the warehouse wouldn’t be foolish enough to miss such obvious smuggling.

It features the same turning wheel structure, slightly smaller in size and caliber, yet its style is far more exquisite.

That’s right, whereas the beauty of Mercy is in its color and lines, the one at my waist is far more straightforward.

Intricate gold lines cover the entire body of the gun, even the holster has them.

Consistent in style, excellently crafted, clearly the handiwork of a master.

Luckily, it was just a fleeting glimpse; had I pointed it at the shopkeeper from the start, he’d question whether it could even fire after a while.

In summary, it’s a gun that’s more like an artwork rather than a weapon, and it’s fully loaded.

Pulling it out to casually play with, without opening the cartridge, Fu Qian can easily confirm this.

Not only is it late now, but the surroundings are visibly desolate, without any worry of startling kids.

Moreover, I must say, the luxurious style matches this outfit somewhat.

The same visual effect outweighs practicality, making me even more curious about the elderly man’s identity.

The checkered shirt shopkeeper’s description was quite confident; the role I’m currently playing seems to be the elderly man’s driver.

On such an empty road, with such a striking appearance, it’s no surprise so many details are remembered.

In fact, from this point, one can better understand the bad mood the shopkeeper exhibited when the task began.

Aside from behavior being irritating, the elderly man and I belong to customers who once visited but never entered.

Pouncing on an opportunity to chastise is quite typical.

Judging by how quickly he realized the car might break down, the shopkeeper probably even secretly anticipated it for a while.

As for the mentioned once but now abandoned resting place, looking at the desolate surroundings, it’s not surprising.

Moreover, there seems to be a possible explanation for the contradictions in the task briefing—

Familiar old roads, were they referring to me as the driver or the elderly man?

Remember, the place just now was unfamiliar to me.

Could it be that the elderly man, due to familiarity with this place, decided to continue ahead before taking a break?

This seems much more reasonable, but now, hopefully, he doesn’t also get lost.

Looking up at the completely darkened sky, Fu Qian didn’t intentionally quicken his pace, just silently calculating the distance—

It seems he found it.

At a certain moment, his gaze fell on a patch of gravel beside the road.

A black car is resting there, compared to the outfit and gun, its style is much simpler.

However, this simplicity has now become a drawback, since under the faint starlight, the black is rather hard to discern.

If the exterior had a bit more adornment, it might not need to be driven down the road here.

Then, if someone passes by, it’d be easier to find help or hitch a ride—though it’s not that simple.

As he approached the car, Fu Qian looked inside the tightly closed window.

Indeed, there was an elderly man, his hair entirely white yet meticulously groomed.

His eyes were half-opened, half-closed, exuding an overwhelming air of decay without a word—almost as if nurturing rot.

Indeed, this elderly man, adorned for night travel, showed no reaction to my arrival, his heart even having stopped beating.

Most would lack the courage to hitch a ride with the dead after midnight.

Ka!

Fu Qian didn’t mind at all, discarding other items, he directly opened the tank to refuel.

Hmm...

As he settled back into the driver’s seat amidst the delightful scent of gasoline, an unusual synchronic sound arose.

In the rear-view mirror, the elderly man seated in the back slowly opened his eyes, his body even straightened a little.

”...You’re a bit slow.”

And the first words he spoke were a subtle critique of the driver’s efficiency.

”I got lost in the middle.”

Fu Qian casually explained, already restarting the car.

”But we’re quite lucky; I heard that shop is about to close.”

...

The gasoline seemed to have simultaneously infused the elderly man’s body, miraculously reviving him.

Though the words were not loud, they carried a certain momentum.

Without even needing to look back, Fu Qian could clearly hear the heartbeats resounding anew.

This is not some ghost story; the elderly man is indeed alive now.

That scene just looked like he casually died for a while due to waiting too long.

The entire process sounds bewildering, yet for Fu Qian, it’s not exaggerated.

Remember, Transcendents are also part of the world’s foundation; from the first glance at the elderly man, it was clear he wasn’t mortal.

Even when evaluated by Eye Radar standards, he’d be at a Middle Tier level.

Actions defying common human mechanisms occurring in such a body aren’t too surprising.

If the driver I were playing truly were an ordinary person, he actually wouldn’t have been scared, as he wouldn’t have noticed the heart had stopped beating earlier, thus not accusing the elderly man of being inconsiderate.

”It’s dark, you’ve never been here... it’s indeed hard to find.”

At this point, responding to Fu Qian’s explanation, the elderly man pondered briefly, quickly showing understanding.

”But why did you buy this kind of first aid kit?”

Yet as he spoke, those lifeless eyes had already scanned the purchased items.

Before Fu Qian could express gratitude for understanding, he directly asked.

”You know, there’s always unexpected situations.”

This kind of location, this kind of atmosphere, discussing bloody topics inevitably feels a bit eerie.

However, having already rehearsed the problems with the checkered-shirt shopkeeper, Fu Qian didn’t even glance back at the elderly man’s question, simply repeating the reason given by the vendor.

Speaking simultaneously, he already guided the car back on the road.

...

So, it truly is the elder’s old road.

Having kept quiet behind, Fu Qian was already very satisfied with the insight.

The elderly man’s earlier words were explicit; as a driver, it’s indeed my first time here.

By now, the previous confusion about the task briefing has been mostly resolved, this trip is clearly initiated around the elder’s will.

And what needs confirmation next seems to be what needs to be done.

”Very well... Continue driving forward, ten minutes later there’s an intersection, but we need to turn off before that onto a small road with a red roadbed.”

Reassuringly, as if hearing a heartfelt wish, the elder gave an almost detailed route.

Furthermore, it wasn’t over, another prompt almost simultaneously sounded.
