Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2043: Chapter 2038: At Heaven’s Commencement Institute

Heh...

Although the Academy was bustling, the laboratory near noon was filled with an unspeakable silence.

”Professor Lisa and Kaldora don’t look alike.”

Faced with Fu Qian’s highly leapfrogging inquiry, Cass seemed briefly unable to follow the train of thought, pausing with a half-smile before directly pointing out the flaw in his question.

”Indeed, they don’t look alike.”

Faced with the leader’s directive, Professor Fu smoothly concurred, his expression betraying no discomfort.

”In a certain unreal place much like a dream, I had a brief exchange with that respected predecessor, and I must admit that in terms of academic demeanor, Professor Lisa is still lacking.”

In the next moment, under Cass’s gaze, Fu Qian looked up at the ceiling, seemingly lost in distant memories.

”A wise and serious lady, so much so that her temperament didn’t quite match with Heaven’s Commencement Institute... and at the end of our conversation, she asked me what she would be like in the future.

”And I told her she would still be at Heaven’s Commencement and had helped everyone a lot.”

Ignoring Cass’s reaction, Fu Qian was simply reminiscing about a scene from the Undersea Prison, and words he once spoke.

”Professor Kaldora did not pursue further questions, appearing satisfied with remaining at Heaven’s Commencement in whatever state, but at the moment I answered, I accidentally pondered— in what state does she remain at Heaven’s Commencement?

”The answer seems obvious, concealed location, rigorous protection, with even a professional mentor overseeing, although this mentor is somewhat different from others... leading to an odd notion forming in my mind at that time.”

Finally finished reminiscing, Fu Qian looked at Cass’s unchanged face.

”Then from your reaction earlier, their relationship really isn’t that simple?

”The thing around Lisa’s neck, has she never taken it off once she put it on?”

...

”What does she look like?”

Without immediately answering Fu Qian’s question, Cass, while asking back, ironically emulated his gesture by slipping into reminiscence.

”Very beautiful black hair, even while encountering trouble she remained impeccably composed, and was very kind to people.”

Fu Qian didn’t mind, casually recounting.

In fact, in his view, the old man asking this wasn’t even to question his assertions, just to find someone to help him reminisce.

”...You’re right, the thing around Lisa’s neck, she indeed has never taken it off.”

With his assistance, Cass didn’t have to reminisce long before reaching a conclusion.

It really was like this.

At that moment, Fu Qian seemed to touch upon some long-hidden secret.

Though the likeness remark was nonsense, the earlier recollection about the strange notion was solid.

When affirming Professor Kaldora’s academic achievements, a thought had genuinely surfaced, questioning whether there really weren’t any successful projects among her bequests over the years?

Judging from the current situation, it’s not easy in this world to transmute non-divine extraordinary creatures into human form, otherwise, Heaven’s Commencement wouldn’t have initiated a specific project.

Meanwhile, a successful case is right there, not only joining the Academy as a mentor but also serving as the guard of Kaldora’s Limbs of All Possibilities.

As a scholarly individual with a rich imagination, what flashed through Fu Qian’s mind was almost precisely how Professor Lisa became human, and that black ring around her neck.

Now it appears, Professor Lisa’s dominance at Heaven’s Commencement indeed has its reasons.

...

”Lisa and Kaldora’s relationship is simple; she possesses a part of her flesh.”

Before Fu Qian could ask more, Cass already continued speaking, freely discussing the past.

”After various potions and rituals were ineffective, I made a fallback attempt, allowing flesh which had become unidentifiable to directly merge with a living extraordinary creature.

”At first, it was unsuccessful, even a tiny bit would quickly become a puddle of slime, until encountering Lisa— do you know how I encountered Lisa?”

However, some bad habits seemed hard to change; as he spoke, he abruptly shifted focus, actually testing Fu Qian.

”Ascension ritual?”

Fu Qian, however, didn’t mind, not just pondering seriously, but even casually pouring some tea.

”Hehe... Heaven’s Commencement’s greatest gain over the years is having talents like you join.”

Amidst harmonious discussions, Cass was evidently quite satisfied, confirming Fu Qian’s guess while pointing to his own distinct vertical pupils.

”My demigod ascension ritual included a material that was an adult Lisa’s same species, to some extent even altering my appearance... Fortunately, while exploring for special extraordinary creatures, I encountered Lisa, who was still quite young back then.”

Indeed, that was my guess based on appearance too.

Noting Cass’s specific mention of this aspect, Fu Qian was quietly thinking.

After all, when first encountering this great person, he’d marveled at that astonishingly exquisite form.

Especially the eyes, if not specifically serpentine, clearly reminiscent of reptiles.

From this angle, it’s even easier to understand Professor Lisa’s extraordinary treatment— even possibly having a familial connection with the dean.

”Then her performance was astounding; I’ve never seen such a good integration before.”

While Fu Qian contemplated the organizational issue of favoritism, Cass continued.

”For a long time, Lisa maintained a normal form, even the divinity wasn’t apparent... but that day eventually arrived, some undesirable changes began to surface, luckily I had preconsidered a countermeasure and gave her an item I’d prepared— that’s right, another acquisition from an outing.”

As he finished speaking, realizing Fu Qian was staring at his pocket, Cass patted it again, openly admitted his own transgressions.

...

The fate of that person is truly fraught with hardship; the twists and turns of life are really just so.

The extraordinary item around Professor Lisa’s neck, unexpectedly, was also stolen by Cass under the guise of collecting it, causing Fu Qian to momentarily feel deeply sympathetic for her bumpy scientific career path.

Additionally, there’s the dean’s persistent search that doesn’t seem solely for scientific purposes—

Even if Professor Kaldora didn’t want resources wasted on saving her, facing such a curse, her colleagues ultimately felt unwilling to let it go.

As for comparing Cass’s past and present narratives, one can completely imagine continuous mischievous deeds over the years?

”A rewarding benefit, in the future I’ll have to consult the dean more on scientific expeditions.”

Admiring such formidable feats, in conversation Fu Qian joined Cass in looking outside the door.

”I heard there’s some movement over at Linghui— ah?”

The topic’s subject, Professor Lisa, only noticed Cass on the other side after stepping through the door, momentarily stunned.
