Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2032: Chapter 2027: Emotions and Desires

This is the curse of knowledge.

Volunteer Miss Liushuang, who bravely stands forward, can be said to rarely display such a lapse in response.

Faced with the results she provided, Wen Li turned her head over for a moment.

It’s obvious that the situation Ji Liushuang reported is exactly the ”difference” she mentioned earlier.

”Joy” has come alive?

Manipulating emotions has always been Wen Li’s primary ability; touching upon divinity while still being related can only be said to stay true to the original intention.

However, no matter if it has been inducing, amplifying, echoing, or simply playing a Beauty Kaleidoscope, the essence remains manipulating the intensity and type of emotions.

The notion of coming alive, however, is another concept entirely.

Miss Liushuang’s self-evaluation of being ”quite sensitive to mental influences” is certainly not an exaggeration.

As early as when she was still at the Middle Tier, she had performed mental state checks on people using Sword Heart Enlightenment, so the credibility of the conclusion is still high.

But merely having a peculiar ability isn’t sufficient to bring her the shock like she just had—ecstasy.

It was following the lead scholarly figure in several key research projects that led to the unusual lapse.

The core symptom of those invitation victims is ”desire has come alive,” leading to ecstasy and the complete overturning of self’s priorities.

The concept of emotions, though it cannot be directly equated with desire, has far too many similarities in between, making it very easy to trigger associations.

So much so that as Wen Li looked over, she too made the exact same motion, awaiting leadership guidance with a gaze.

Although the ”ecstasy” incident ultimately did not become exceedingly serious, the nature of what was involved is nothing short of egregious...

”Describe specifically.”

At this moment, the leader’s demeanor is exhibited, seeing Professor Fu casually gesturing for both to sit, not forgetting to add some tea during the conversation.

Calm as ever, as curious as ever.

...

”Just as Ms. Wen said earlier, a very special feeling...”

The scientific atmosphere is always important; Professor Fu’s reaction and the spirit of seeking truth quickly calmed Ji Liushuang down, her gaze steady as she organized her words.

”It began with a strong joy emerging in the heart, making one feel extremely good, sweeping away the shadows in the mind, though very soon it became more active...

”No longer just a perceived emotion, but more actively eroding, devouring, occupying more... I was certain the entire process my mind was very clear, not generating bad impulses, so from this aspect, it doesn’t seem to prove its harm.”

Quickly recounting the emotional value Wen Li provided just moments before, the concerns involving its relationship with ”ecstasy” pertain to considerable confidentiality, Ji Liushuang surprisingly showed restraint.

”Very good... Is that so?”

Fu Qian nodded to commend, not hastily presenting his views, but turned to Wen Li for confirmation.

”Yes, that’s the most significant change I felt after digesting that thing.”

The latter also swiftly acknowledged.

”A special, relatively independent ability, when influencing emotions can choose to attach or not attach, and it’s effective on myself as well.

”I initially tested it on myself, and it took quite some time to roughly rid myself of that influence...”

Wen Li pointed to her head, clearly demonstrating a touch of ”using good things on oneself first,” greatly matching the current laboratory culture.

”One can imagine.”

Having dealt with Lord Stomach so many times, not long ago even forcibly infected by the Seed of Ecstasy in Paradise, how could Fu Qian not fathom the hardships involved?

”And now?”

The next moment, Fu Qian snapped his fingers to capture their attention, beginning the Return Edict.

...

”The hidden danger seems completely removed...”

Indeed, Wen Li was faster to see effects, initially clueless about Fu Qian’s intentions she just stared at the snapping hand, very soon unable to mask her joy.

Mr. Fu is indeed remarkable, not even letting spiritual issues pose a challenge...

”... me too, it seems to have lost its activity again, emotions start to normally decay.”

A little later, Ji Liushuang with more cautious consideration, earnestly described her changes.

The halo remains usable, even the effect hasn’t diminished, and that’s quite favorable.

With the conclusion testing likewise received, Fu Qian was fairly satisfied.

”Switch to a different emotion.”

And in the next moment signaled Wen Li to continue.

Preparing initialization methods early, on one hand naturally to avoid experimental risks, on the other before beginning new tests, initialization state is also basic operation.

”Alright...”

This time it’s obviously the experimenter and the experimented, uniting their voices, neither daring to defy the scholarly leader’s will.

”Fear... It has come alive too, even more intense... rapidly devouring other emotions, it seems already visible in shape.”

And quickly, even if Miss Liushuang tried her utmost control, it still could be seen from the flicker in her gaze.

It must be said, Miss Wen is still quite discerning.

The first experiment was unmistakably choosing ”joy,” such a positive emotion, to maximize giving the subject a good experience.

Upon request to proceed, it decisively switched to one more contrasting for sharper comparison.

To more efficiently derive conclusions, reduce volunteer’s torment counts?

Though all is merely unspoken conformity, Fu Qian believes Miss Liushuang will understand this way.

The most heartening however is the further comparative result she provided.

”The feeling is still fundamentally different... the distinction between different emotions is very obvious, I even... seem to feel that what’s awakened isn’t the same thing this time...”

Even as firm as Ji Liushuang, her words carried a noticeable tremor.

”The process is more akin to awakening some ancient essence, rather than planting a seed that’s constantly catalyzing... Though this activation is uncontrollable, also affects self-control...”

Yet finally, under Wen Li’s concerned gaze, she resiliently submitted the experience report.

”I feel the same way.”

By now Professor Fu also gave his personal viewpoint, casually initiating the Return Edict.

Behind Ji Liushuang there was already not much concealment of ecstasy, even directly making comparisons.

And although immune to Wen Li’s new ability, resulting in lack of empathy, Fu Qian still favored acknowledging Miss Liushuang’s judgement.

Field guidance in addition to compiling reports, his research assistant’s understanding of ecstasy essence ranks prominently in the entire Academy.

Combined with the sharpness of Sword Heart Enlightenment and her own vigilance, Miss Liushuang arriving at such a definitive conclusion almost doesn’t warrant much doubt.

But inconsistency does not mean no connection.

The concepts of emotions and desires are indeed somewhat too similar.

If the pinnacle of Wen Li’s Divine Road isn’t the ever-concordant Lord Stomach, then what would it be?
