Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1804: Chapter 1799: Vulgar Fear (12)

Oh? I actually do know this one.

The name Butters mentioned instantly reminded Fu Qian of the taste of coffee at the party.

There shouldn’t be anyone else with the same name, so that enthusiastic drinks manager is actually Fierce Man Wen’s girlfriend?

And recalling the way everyone sized him up like a rare animal when he made his entrance.

”Was the party their doing?”

The next moment, Fu Qian directly confirmed it.

”Yes... do you know her? Besides, didn’t you say you don’t care about the party?”

Butters couldn’t help but turn his head, looking quite surprised, remembering the conversation in the car earlier.

”You just asked where it’s happening, are you really interested in coming?”

It was clear that Mr. Wolf’s demeanor was trustworthy today, but he was also a bit excessively cold, suddenly showing a more human side, which made him seem slightly relaxed.

”Not interested, I’d rather spend the time chatting with that person again.”

Unfortunately, Fu Qian instantly crushed his little moment of happiness, shaking his head straightforwardly.

”... So why do you think Wen suddenly ran off? Did he sense some particular danger?”

The example Fu Qian gave left Butters speechless for a moment.

”But if he really felt danger, why didn’t he warn us? I find that quite inexplicable.”

When he spoke again, he proactively brought the topic back to the current point of suspicion.

”It’s certainly an interesting question.”

Nodding, Fu Qian finally gave a rare compliment and then looked up.

”Maybe he’s just a bit more timid and didn’t notice any more danger, so he still has confidence in us.”

More danger?

Butters, puzzled, followed Fu Qian’s gaze upwards, only to see Fu Qian tapping under the first phase of the staircase with his crowbar.

Crash!

At this moment, Butters finally noticed something peculiar about the location, but didn’t get a chance to see more clearly before a wooden plank there gave way, causing something to fall.

Aah—

Already emotionally battered, he finally let out a scream, nearly getting hit on the head.

And the thing swinging in front of his face without hitting the ground was finally clear—a wooden puppet hanging upside down.

Its head was unusually large, not the typical clown-like face, rather a realistic sinister grin, and it even had a tuft of black hair at the top.

...

Very visually striking, but it should just be a regular item.

Since Fu Qian had already adjusted his position before knocking, he didn’t need to dodge in the sudden situation, even giving a critique amidst Butters’ screams.

While observing earlier, I just thought there seemed to be extra space here, so I casually checked it out.

I have to say, these surprise traps truly fit classic horror story techniques.

The design even has a certain charm.

Besides that face, the slender wooden limbs were completely unrealistic but densely covered with carvings and painted a bluish-black color.

Additionally, the upside-down stance—the puppet’s eyes aligned almost perfectly with the line of sight—gives a strong visual impact.

Bam—

That, and combined with Butters’ scream, his instinctive reaction led him to attack against his fear, slapping the puppet’s head away.

”Damn it!”

Not only that, but the accumulated negative emotions of the night, along with lingering mental influences, seemed to explode as he grabbed the remnants of the puppet and the cords holding them, pulling down fiercely.

A sound of decaying wood breaking, not crisp but rather dull, marked the little scare trap’s complete destruction as more fragments came tumbling down.

Something’s wrong.

The next moment, noticing the breaking sounds didn’t cease—and even seemed to grow, seeing pebbles among the falling debris—Fu Qian realized something and immediately leaped out of the opening, pulling Butters along in haste.

Crash—

Although the moonlight wasn’t very bright at that moment, it added a sense of breaking through the darkness, achieving redemption.

Sadly, there wasn’t even time to savor this feeling before a massive noise immediately followed.

Like a collapsing sand sculpture, this time-worn building crumbled instantaneously, turning into ruins.

In the billowing dust, Fu Qian seemed to witness a familiar scene rise again.

The red and blue flickerrs, wafting like jellyfish sprouting from the soil in the room where the coffin was displayed.

Though this scene vanished in a single breath, the confounding voices in his mind continued to echo.

Still incomprehensible, but Fu Qian tended to believe it was swearing.

”The car’s still here.”

Compared to Butters, still in a daze admiring his handiwork, Fu Qian glanced past the rubble, confirming the vehicle hadn’t been taken.

And the next moment, he caught a whiff of fragrance.

And his body seemed to be rising slowly.

...

Did leaving the building really end the script?

While not able to analyze many details, Fu Qian instantaneously determined it was the scent of women’s perfume.

The light rapidly brightened, allowing Fu Qian to easily discern he was inside an enclosed elevator car.

Indeed, not a moment for reflections, the new script had seamlessly commenced once again.

Just as anticipated, there were numerous scenes to complete.

How was the previous scene finished?

The script’s termination condition was clear—exit the building.

But was it ”correct”?

Hard to say, but at least nothing was wrong yet.

Feeling the unstable elevator, Fu Qian quietly settled on an answer.

Apart from exiting, the core tasks were only two—

Refuse the vampire in the coffin, keeping her bound.

And investigate Wen’s whereabouts.

Is there a difference between completing these tasks before escaping and just walking out?

No definitive judgment can be made yet, but one fact is inescapable: two instances passed, the mission hasn’t failed.

Going forward, it seems more cross-verification is needed.

Ding—

Amidst his musings, with a crisp sound, the ascent halted.

The elevator doors slowly opened, brighter light poured in, and a human shadow appeared.

Fair-skinned, tall figure, Fu Qian squinted, focusing on the high ponytail.

Seems like it’s—Eva?

No doubt, it was the same person who had opened the door for him at the party.

Although unsure if the timeline means she recognizes him, it appeared unnecessary to greet—Oh?

The next moment, Fu Qian discovered that she too didn’t acknowledge him, walking straight inside without glancing his way.

As if the elevator were empty.
