Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Although the wounds on Kamakura Si’s body had been treated, they were still alarmingly severe.

Once they grasped the implication behind Fu Qian’s words, the group subconsciously began to speculate, followed by a surge of nausea.

“Are you saying that this pool contains a group of followers who’ve been chopped up? Just because of a uniquely shaped hand?”

Even Chang Mo couldn’t help but object at this point.

This was too absurd!

And no matter what, even if it were true, wouldn’t it be a blood pool instead?

“This substance clearly exhibits behavior similar to imitation. Why couldn’t it be that followers once came into contact with it, and it remembered them?”

“I did say it was a speculation without responsibility.”

Facing skepticism, Fu Qian appeared to have no desire to argue and exuded an air of composed sophistication.

“Mainly because the relic is so vast, it obviously can accommodate quite a large number of people, hence the possibility seems plausible.”

So you think a large number of people could fill up a pool this big? Can’t you think of something more mundane?

Not just Chang Mo, but everyone internally screamed at this thought.

“As to why it turned into this state, maybe it’s the result of multiple cycles?”

Fu Qian continued to speculate, seemingly oblivious to the objections.

“No matter what state it’s in, to persist for thousands of years to the present is hard to attribute to anything other than a divine blessing.”

“Perhaps just by staying in this relic, over time one naturally acquires a healing effect, and then after being chopped up, the cycle of repeated reconstruction purifies and elevates?”

“What we just witnessed might be nothing more than a glimpse of one cycle.”

“So this is the true purpose of your visit here?”

The scene described by Fu Qian undoubtedly sparked limitless imagination and strong doubts among everyone, with a subconscious resistance to such imagery.

At that moment, Jian Jingzheng suddenly realized something.

His words prompted shock throughout the room.

The group suddenly woke up to the fact that the Demigod wasn’t originally a member of the investigation team.

His appearance was mysterious, and his motives were enigmatic. After being discovered, he was willing to cooperate with everyone…

It would be hard to believe that he didn’t have some special purpose in mind.

What did he know about this place?

For a moment, the mystique surrounding Fu Qian boosted the credibility of his words, creating tremendous psychological pressure.

“Impossible!”

The first to break down were, unsurprisingly, members of the Professional Tomb Keeper Clan.

Kamakura Si could no longer care that the other person was a Demigod and blurted out instinctively.

“The Tomb Revelation indeed is the Kamakura Family’s public claim, but the Severing Godly Seal essentially comes from our ancestor’s cultivation and enlightenment, whether it be related to Sword Dao or not.”

“Now you’re suggesting that its essence comes from a Deity of the Mythic Era, one without form, isn’t that a bit too absurd?”

“It’s you who refers to it as a blessing.”

Seeing that Kamakura Si was unwilling to accept the possible fate, Fu Qian maintained a smiling face.

The earlier remarks were indeed speculations without responsibility.

As said before, it’s anyone’s guess with a span of over a thousand years and no related records.

Part of the reason Fu Qian spoke in such a ghastly tone was that he genuinely considered it a possibility.

After all, as someone who had personally put an end to an Ancient Deity, Fu Qian had a higher acceptance of Deities from that era, and knew some might still be active.

On the other hand, he did it on purpose.

The second goal of the test was to observe the Kamakura Family’s Cursed Swordsmanship once more, and it was not without its rewards.

The most profound characteristic in Kamakura Si’s performance was its standardization.

The seemingly brutal Sword Dao was carried out in such a precise and orderly manner that it differed not at all from his junior, Kamakura Guizhi.

So much so that during the observation, an odd thought sprang into Fu Qian’s mind—the whole sequence of chopping as if it was more of a ritual than actual Sword Dao.

The actions were extremely standardized, with striking and exaggerated postures. After a series of movements was complete, there was no need to even strike the opponent; the target would have already burst open on their own.

It strangely resembled something from legends, similar to the Spirit Dance.

Devout followers, through such wholehearted prayers, connected with the Divine Beings they worshipped, receiving blessings or punishing their enemies.

Though the idea was overly abstract, as a Swordsman, one always emphasized seeing the essence through the phenomena.

Therefore, as soon as this thought appeared, Fu Qian didn’t dismiss it subconsciously but instead quickly entertained it and found it unexpectedly fitting.

This could also completely explain why this Cursed Sword was so fierce that not even Demigods were immune.

Essentially, what Kamakura Guizhi gestured was merely providing a coordinate for positioning, and the one doing the actual chopping was an existence akin to a higher-ranking Deity.

It’s just that this Deity seemed somewhat unreliable, even chopping the petitioner in the process.

…

“That’s just a metaphor for one’s thoughts,”

After being silenced by Fu Qian’s comment for a long while, Kamakura Si struggled and made every effort to rebut.

“The elder intentionally came to guard the graves just to align with such thoughts.”

“The Kamakura Family doesn’t even know the name of this Deity. If you were a Divine Being, would you bless such a believer?”

Well said, that was also a puzzling aspect.

Seeing Kamakura Si’s earnest defense, not seeming deceitful, Fu Qian silently nodded in agreement.

If the Kamakura Family’s Sword Dao were defined as a ritual, then inadvertently chopping the petitioner as well clearly indicated a problem with the ritual.

The most direct reason that came to mind was that the corresponding higher power had gone mad, not discerning friend from foe.

This did fit the state of the Ancient Deities as he remembered them.

But there was a temporal issue—if they had gone mad before, why did the Kamakura Family only start having problems now?

Their Cursed Swordsmanship had been reputedly fearsome for hundreds of years, having claimed the lives of countless heroes and great warriors.

If they had just gone mad recently, then what caused It to go mad?

That was truly hard to imagine.

Considering this, Fu Qian decided it was better to first consider the possibility that the problem lay in the conduct of the ritual itself.

Unfortunately, he was after all not familiar enough with the Kamakura Family’s Sword Dao to identify any issues at the moment.

The reason Fu Qian intentionally made his previous statement sound horrifying was to provoke Kamakura Si’s initiative, to make him find a compelling reason to refute his own, for reference.

And the reason Kamakura Si brought up was indeed compelling.

A Deity willing to bestow blessings without even knowing the name does seem excessively benevolent.

In fact, everyone from the Academy including Cass seemed to agree with this refutation.

“Let’s take a sample and head back,”

Seeing that due to Kamakura Si’s words, the group had fallen into contemplation, Cass, also puzzled, finally spoke.

For him, the scene just now confirmed the essence of the Kamakura Family’s Sword Dao indeed originated from some higher power, which was already a substantial discovery.

Although how exactly it was achieved, was still uncertain.

This relic undoubtedly concealed many ancient secrets.
