Chapter 757: Chapter 756 I Can Protect You

Nia Mitchell was unaware of the concerns weighing on her father’s mind and looked at him with a puzzled expression.

”Why?”

Nia couldn’t understand why he wasn’t taking advantage of such a good resource right in front of him.

Meanwhile, Molly Harguez was completely against it.

If they didn’t get Young Master Peary’s help, they wouldn’t be able to afford the costly medical bills in Capital Town, let alone secure a hospital bed.

She absolutely could not risk her son’s safety in any way.

Her father was well aware of this, so he fell silent immediately.

On one hand, there was his daughter; on the other, his son.

It was a difficult decision for him.

”Anyway, we can’t bother Young Master Peary. Nia, why won’t you take the right path? Why are you... Do you owe him something?”

Nia paused, and in that moment, she began to understand what her father meant.

They... they’ve always thought I was merely Maxwell Peary’s mistress.

One assumed she was materialistic and vain, while the other suspected she’d had no other choice.

Nia smiled faintly.

”Dad, it’s alright. Just treat him as one of our own; there’s no need to feel burdened.”

Nia tried to comfort her father, but he kept shaking his head.

”Nia, if you owe him money, we’ll pay him back. Can you please leave him then?”

Her father’s eyes suddenly welled with tears. He grasped Nia’s hands, as if trying to pull her back from a perilous path.

Aldy Mitchell, lying on the bed, heard these words and seemed to understand something too.

”Sister, are you... are you...”

After all, he was just a high school student; there were many things he couldn’t bring himself to say.

Father Mitchell’s tears streamed down his face, his heart overwhelmed with sorrow.

He remembered watching her leave with her suitcase all those years ago; he remembered not stopping her.

For four years, he hadn’t given her a single cent. How on earth did she survive in a big city like Capital Town?

His gaze fell once more on Nia’s collarbone, and the skin beneath it where, just moments ago, he’d noticed a large spread of bluish-purple marks. Hickeys... So many hickeys. A pang of pain shot through his heart at the sight. These marks are so fresh... they must be from last night... Did she have to beg Maxwell Peary for something?

It had to be said, Father Mitchell had quite the wild imagination.

”Stop letting your imaginations run wild. Dad, could you come out for a moment? I have something to discuss with you.”

She couldn’t let her father continue to misunderstand like this; otherwise, he would be consumed by self-reproach.

Indeed, Nia knew her father’s character very well.

When Aldy Mitchell heard Nia planned to speak with their father alone, he grew agitated.

”Don’t go! Don’t go! Say it here!” Aldy yelled, clearly emotional.

”Sister, don’t keep things from me! Tell me everything! Tell me! I’m a man, I can protect you!”

He, battered and bruised, was actually offering to protect her.

Though it seemed almost comical, Nia was deeply moved.

For the past four years, she had felt that having Charles Northwood to look after her and Fiona Sutton to protect her was enough.

But a few words from her family had such a powerful impact; she suddenly felt a lump in her throat and the urge to cry.

Tears welling in her eyes, Nia walked slowly towards Aldy.

”Okay, Sister won’t go. I’ll say it here. But when you’re discharged from the hospital and fully recovered, you must remember what you said. You have to protect me.”

She said this with a smile, wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes.

”Mhm.”

Aldy nodded gravely, his expression earnest and resolute.
